Chapter 6

We got off the train and this big man wearing a coat with hundreds of pockets came and said, "Firs' years o'er here!" So we followed him to a big lake.

"This 'ere is called the Grea' Lake," the man said. "Everyone get on a boa' in par'ners. By the way, me name's Rubeus Hagrid, Keeper of Keys and Grounds a' Hogwarts. But yer can call me Hagrid."

So Lily and I got in a boat together. James and Sirius got in one next to us. It looked like James was about to make a move so Lily and I got into the lake and willed the boat to catch up to Hagrid.

Hagrid was running a guided tour of the school grounds.

"An' tha's the Forbidden Fores'. Don' go there, simply 'cause it's forbidden. Oh, look, look! Tha's the Giant Squid. Yer very lucky to see him!" Hagrid looked in one of his many pockets and pulled out a pocket watch. "Oh, would yer look a' tha'! Alrigh'y, guys. Will yer boats ter go faster. We're late for the sor'ing!"

Finally we got to the other side of the lake, where a tall lady wearing emerald green robes and a high bun was waiting for us.

"Alrigh' guys, I'm gonna pass yer on ter Professor McGonagall. Don' get inta trouble with her," Hagrid told us, and left to go into the castle of Hogwarts.

"My name, as Hagrid has told you, is Professor Minerva McGonagall. I am head of the Gryffindor house and teacher of Transfiguration. Follow me please to the Great Hall, where you will be sorted into house groups. I will tell you more on that later," the emerald green robed lady said, as she started walking into the castle gates. "Follow me, please."

So we did.
