“Hey Mark, happy 20th birthday!!!!” My best mate Scott said to me as I walked to our lockers. “Dude, I have to get to class, I’ll give you your present after school.”
“Alrite man, thanks!” I said as I put my English book in my locker next to the window which shows the skatepark down the road.
Scott, being 14, has different classes at different times so we only properly see each other on weekends at parties and band practice.
I checked my watch for the time ‘1:30pm’ it said.
What the hell am I supposed to do for 20 whole minutes?!?!?!?! I thought.
My head turned to the window where I saw some tall blonde kid doing flips on his board.
I got out my NOFX skateboard from outa my locker and headed to the school gates.
There’s a skatepark near the school, near where I used to live til I moved a couple of weeks ago.
As I crossed the road I could hear loud music and people chanting ‘FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT.’
I guess this was a bad day to decide to come to the park... I thought as I walked towards the bushes near the fight to take a closer look at who was fighting.
There was some dude with a load of tattoos and some kid with a lip ring, eyebrow ring, nose ring and the same kind of blonde hair as me.
I quickly ran behind the tattooed boy when I heard a similar voice shout my name.
“HUH?!?!! WHO SAID MY NAME??!?!!!?!!!?” I shouted.
I looked around but the kids were still fighting and I could only see people who are crowded round the 2 kids.
I shrugged and ran to the car park just around the corner to the skatepark.
There was a boy sat there in the middle of the car park, drawing in a small notebook.
I looked around to make sure there was no cars coming.
I quickly coughed.
“Um... ain’t it a bit dangerous to be sat in the middle of a car park?” I asked him and he quickly got up.
“Uh..... I...... yeah, I knew that...” he awkwardly said while rubbing the back of his neck.
“I’m Mark by the way!”
“Um, thanks dude.” He put his drawing in his pocket. “You here to avoid the fight?”
“Same! Travis and Tom keep fighting about someone, I think they have the same name as you or something. Apparently Tom keeps talking about some ‘Mark Hoppus’ and Travis called Tom gay and then there was a load of punching.”
He started at me.
I quickly shook my head.
“You alrite? You kinda blanked out just there...”
“Oh, I just thought I knew someone called Tom, guess it was some nightmare I had while moving house. I kept having strange dreams then. But I feel like I know a Tom, I dunno, it’s some weird feeling... you know!”
Matt kinda nodded.
“Anyways, you go to school?” I asked, hoping I wasn’t sounding like some sorta creep or something.
“Nah, my aunt “home schools” me. She just sleeps through the whole day while I play video games.” We both laughed at that.
“So... what games-”
Suddenly I felt something hard hit the back of my head.
“OOOOOOOWWWWWW! WHO THE HELL THREW THAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?”
I turned around and through the gaps of the bushes I could see the blonde kid with all the facial rings.
I angrily walked over to him.
“What the hell dude, I don’t even know you. Why did you throw that at me?!?!”
“You do know me...” they said, sounding pretty creepy.
“Uh, alrite then...”
“I know who you are Mark Allan Hoppus, and I have been trying to hunt you down for 2 years, now that I have you here I know what I’m going to do to you. That you almost killed me, I’m going to kill YOU!!!!!!!”
“W-What, I don’t even know who you are!”
Suddenly he got up.
“Tom Matthew DeLonge.”
I took a deep breath in and screamed as loud as I could.
Suddenly he was launching rocks and stones at me.
“OW! OW! MATT, GRAB MY, OW, SKATEBOARD!!!” I called over to him and he kicked it over and I used it as a shield for my face.
“T-Tom, I thought you were all a dream!!!”
“Yeah, And you were my nightmare!”
“Tom, listen to me please.” I didn’t care that he was still throwing rocks at me, as long as he listened.
“Tom, I never meant to hurt you, I was protecting you in a way, you meant the world to me, and you still do now. Please Tom, will you forgive me for my birthday present?”
“Happy birthday sucker!” Tom threw a rock and it hit me right in the eyes.
