Living with the Avengers

Chapter Twenty-Five

Sighing, Thor threw himself onto the living room couch. All the rest of the Avengers were gone and he was left to his own devices in the Tower.

If only Carter and Laynie were still here. Maybe it would not be so quiet, he thought.

The sudden departure of both girls left an undesirable effect on all the Avengers. Each one handled it differently. Pepper threw herself into work, Tony spent a considerable amount of time at the bar. Clint and Natasha were as silent and brooding as ever, Bruce had been meditating more and more, and Steve was practically living in the gym.

Thor wasn't sure how he was handling it. He was pretty sure his Honey Bun intake had increased, but beyond that, all he felt was sadness.

He suddenly stood from the couch and walked into the hallway leading to the bedrooms. With pained eyes, he looked at the doors to each girl's previous rooms.

He looked in both rooms, but only for a moment. He couldn't bring himself to stay.

As he returned to his own room, he realized how much good the girls had done for the occupants of Stark Tower. They'd all been happier when they were around, and acted more like a family than a group of people thrown at each other to repeatedly save the planet. The more he thought about it, the less he could remember what their lives had looked like before Laynie and Carter.

Perhaps the girls are better off where they are now. No danger will come to them now that the one who killed their parents has been captured. Staying here at Stark Tower would have only brought them more trouble. I'm sure they are both happy and being well taken care of. With that thought, Thor made it a point not to worry about Laynie and Carter too much.

But, that didn't mean he couldn't be sad that they were gone.
