"un"broken ~ Damon Salvatore

chapter 2: we meet again

I lead Stefan to history class and we sat down right as the bell rang. Stefan sat down beside me, Elena was in front of me and Caroline was behind me.

Elena and Stefan had been chatting fairly idly throughout class about Stefan joining the football team, that they could use a guy like him and Stean said he was a loner.

I had been sketching Damon's eyes during all that so I wasn't really paying attention to them.

Anywho Mr. Tanner had been rattling off different names of different battles and wars and calling on people to answer.

Mr. Tanner had heard whatever comment, Elena was making to Stefan at the time and said "Miss Gilbert."

I turned my head towards him realizing he wasn't speaking to me and continued my sketch. When Elena hadn't responded to her- or our name so Mr. Tanner said: "Pearl Habor" he paused for a moment before saying "Miss Gilbert" again, louder this time.

Elena turned her head looking confused when Stefan spoke up "December 7th, 1941" he said smiling.

Mr. Tanner looked at Stefan "Why thank you, Miss Gilbert," he replied snarkily.

Stefan replied instantly "Anytime," he said with a huge grin on his face.

You could tell he was trying Mr. Tanner's patience "Very Well," he said "The Fall of the Berlin Wall."

Stefan replied again with "1989, I'm good with dates sir."

"Let's see how good," Mr. Tanner growled, "Keep it to the year, Civil Rights Act."

"John F. Kennedy Assassination"

"Martin Luther King"

" '68"

"Roe vs. Wade"

"Brown vs. Board"

"Battle of Gettysburg"

"Korean War"

"1950 to 1953"

Mr. Tanner yelled, "Ha, it ended in '52!".

Stefan chuckled, "Actually sir, it ended in '53".

Mr. Tanner snarled his nose "Somebody look it up!"

I grabbed my phone and quickly typed it into the search bar clicking on the first article that popped up I cleared my throat before reading "The Korean War ended in.... 1953!" I yelled. "Stefan was right."

The bell rang before Mr. Tanner could say anything else, and everybody grabbed their stuff and filed out the door.

~Time Skip~

After school, I headed out to the football field where all the tryouts were going on with Elena.

"So what's going on with you and Stefan," I asked Elena nudging her with my shoulder and winking at her.

"Oh don't start!" She said giggling "He is super nice and he told me he liked me today."

"Oh my gosh, Elena!! Get your Man!" I yelled.

"Be quiet you goofball before somebody hears you," Elena shushed me.

I looked at her with a smirk on my face before she looked at me and her eyes got wide and she said "Don't. You. Dare!" she shrieked.

I just winked at her again before running over to Stefan who just walked onto the field singing "Stefan and Elena sittin' in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G" I wasn't able to continue on to the next verse because Elena had run up behind me putting her hand over my mouth with an embarrassed look on he face as Stefan just shook his head and laughed.

"So you two are trying out for the cheerleading team?" Stefan asked.

"Elena is," I said "It's not really my cup of tea," I said with a weak smile."Why, are you trying out for the football team," I asked him wiggling my fingers at him in the process.

Stefan rubbed the back of his neck saying "I don't know, I don't think so."

"Stefan you have to, I told you this already you would be so good for the team!" Elena practically yelled at him.

"I doubt Coach would even let me on the team anyway with all that went down in history class today," Stefan said obviously trying to get out of doing it, but Elena wasn't having it. "Stefan, you can do it I believe in you," Elena said smiling. Stefan just sighed as he began walking over to Coach Tanner before Elena yelled, "and Stefan are we still on tonight?"

Stefan turned around and said, "Of course, I wouldn't miss it for the world."

I looked at Elena "Still on for what?" I asked wiggling my eyebrows. "Oh my God Ally get your head out of the gutter," she said rolling her eyes. "I just invited Stefan over for dinner tonight at 8 so we could get to know each other more, oh and Bonnie is coming to."

"Sounds fun, I said walking off to get my car, "Hope I'm invited."

Elena laughed and yelled back, "Of course you are dummy, you live there."

I finally got to the parking lot and got into my car.

I put the key into the ignition and laid my head back sighing. It is both physically and mentally exhausting to try and pretend I'm okay and forcing a smile onto my face all day long.

"FUCK!" I yelled hitting the steering wheel.

"Fuck, Fuck, Fuck, Fuck, FUCK!" I yelled again while repeatedly hitting my steering wheel. I continued on hitting my steering wheel until my hands started throbbing. I know they would probably bruise. I leaned my head back and just cried I cried until I couldn't anymore, and when I reached that point I picked my head up and said, "I need a burger."

I walked into the grill and waited for Vicky to come and seat me. A minute or two later Vicky took me to my table and asked, "Your usual?"

"Yep," I said smiling back at her.

A little while after Vicky had left Damon walked up to my table. "We meet again," he said smirking.

"Indeed we have," I smirking just as big as him.

"So this seat taken?" He asked putting his hand on the chair in front of me.

"Yep, by you," I said grabbing my plate from Vicky thanking her as she asked Damon if she could get him anything. Poor thing she looked so tired. "Uh yes please I'll have whatever she is having," he said smiling at her.

"I'll have that right out to you," she smiled.

"So how are you liking Mystic Falls?" I asked Damon while picking up my burger to take a bite.

"Pretty good, it's still nice and quiet," he said.

"Yep just a boring little town," I said popping a couple of fries in my mouth.

"So about this morning," Damon said looking at me softly.

"I was driving to school and a bird flew into the side of my cat it's not a big deal," I said quickly not wanting to have the conversation we were inevitably about to have.

"A bird had you hyperventilating with your eyes closed?" Damon asked raising his eyebrows.

"No," I sighed "About a year ago I was in an accident with my parents and my twin sister Elena. My dad lost control of the car and drove off of Wickery Bridge. The car started sinking to the bottom of the river and we couldn't get out because of the water pressure against the car. My mom passed out on impact but Elena, dad, and I were all awake for a couple of minutes. Dad told Elena and me he loved us and then I passed out, I'm assuming Elena had passed out shortly after I did. The thing was somebody called the police and when the ambulance arrived Elena and I had been pulled out of the car and laid on the side of the bridge. When the paramedics had us in the ambulance they performed CPR on Elena and me, Elena woke up but I wasn't. They were able to resuscitate me at the hospital but I had been dead for 15 minutes," I said avoiding eye contact with Damon and taking another bite of my burger.

Vicky came and set Damon's plate down in front of him but he didn't stop looking at me when he told her thank you.

"Are you okay?" he asked me tilting his head down so I would look at him.

"No, I'm not every day it gets a little bit harder for me to put a smile on my face and pretend to be the old Allison but I can't tell anybody that. I shouldn't have told you that you are the only one person in this town who doesn't look at me like I'm a broken, weak little girl." I said as tears started to brim my eyes.

"Ally the only difference in the way I look at you now is how strong I just realized you really are," Damon said softly.

"Really?" I asked wiping my eyes before I really started to cry.

"Really," Damon said before grabbing my hands saying "I don't know what it is about you Allison Gilbert but for some reason, I care abut you and I have only known you for a couple of hours, I care more about you that I do for people I have known my whole life."

I was speechless, that was the nicest thing anybody has said to me my entire life and I had hardly known this man for a day. I didn't know what to do and I knew I was starting to blush so I just looked down at our entertwined hands.

I guess Damon followed my gaze because all of a sudden his eyes got super wide when he saw my banged up hands. "What in God's name happened!?" Damon asked taking his hands from mine so he could start examining mine like a doctor.

"Oh don't worry about it sometimes I get mad and hit or kick things and today it just happened to be my steering wheel," I said pulling my hands back and crossing my arms over my chest trying to put my wall back up before I let him back in again, but for some reason, I couldn't it's like I wanted to let Damon in and I wanted him to comfort me.

"So in other words, you have some major anger issues?" Damon said shaking his head laughing.

"Yea I guess you could say that," I said smiling and popping another fry into my mouth. I looked down at the time and it was already 7. "Oh shit, I gotta get home my sister is having a dinner for her new love interest and I'm supposed to be there," I said grabbing my just and paying the bill all while rolling my eyes I looked back up at Damon as he paid his bill and just all of a sudden said "You should come."

Damon looked at me surprised I mean hell I've only known him for almost a day. "Oh I don't know I wouldn't want to impose," Damon said giving me his best shit eating grin.

I decided to just play it off like I didn't just surprise the hell out of myself. "Oh don't give me that shit I think from the way you came over to sit with me that oyou don't really mind if you're imposing or not," I said smirking "Did you drive here?".

"No, why?" Damon asked me.

"Perfect, because I can drive you," I said grabbing his hand and dragging him out of the grill handing Vicky a 20 on the way out.

"Hey, Thank Ally!" Vicky hollered after me while looking at the money in her hand.

I got into the driver's seat once we reached my car and Damon hopped in the passenger seat.

We talked the whole way to my house and I found out a lot about Damon. His favorite color is black, he has a little brother, they moved back into their old family house with their uncle Zach, and that he loves to read which is a biggie for me because I'm a totla bookworm. When we got to my house and started walking up to the door I grabbed his hand for some reason, but he responded by grabbing my hand back. We got to the door and I walked in turning to Damon who was just standing at the entrance. "Well I'm not just going to walk on in uninvited." I laughed and was about to tell him to come on in when Elena came out of the kitchen "Ally is that you?" she asked I turned around answering her and saw Stefan come up behind her. "Oh hey Stefano I brought a friend too! Hope y'all don't mind,'' I said smiling. "Damon?" Stefan asked looking at the man standing at the door. "Hello brother," Damon said smirking at his brother. "Wait you two are brothers?" I said excitedly.

Stefan ignored me and turned to Elena. "Elean do not invite him in this house.

"Why not Stefan? Don't be rude the more the merrier," Elena said turning back to Damon.

"Come on," I said to Damon slightly annoyed that I was pretty much being ignored by everyone since I walked into the house, "Let's eat".

Damon walked across the threshold smirking at Stefan and grabbing my hand once more. I don't know what was going on with them but they are being weird and I don't like it. So I just continued dragging Damon to the table where the food was. "Wait, you'er eating again? We just ate," Damon said highly amused. "One thing you should know about Ally is that she's always hungry," Elena said as she followed us into the kitchen where Bonnie was waiting for us.

Everybody sat down at the table with food on their plates. "Let's eat," I said rubbing my hands together and licking my lips.

We talked and ate for about an hour when Stefan said he should probably get going.

Stefan got up thanked me and Elena for having him and walked out with Elena.

"That's my cue," Bonnie said giving me hug and heading out to her car. Leaving me and Damon alone.

"Oh," I said smacking my head "You need a ride home because I dragged you here in my car," I said laughing "And from what I gathered you don't want to ask your brother for one."

Damon smirked saying "Yeah we don't get along too well anymore."

"That sucks, Alright well I'll take you back home since I kidnapped you in the first place," I said throwing an oversized Friends hoodie on and grabbing my keys as we walked out the door to my car.

When we got to Damon's housr and I out the car in park Damon turned to me "Thanks for tonight it was fun, I look forward to doing it again sometime," he said getting out of the car, but when he leaned out I saw his phone in his back pocket so I again acted on impulse and grabbed it.

I turned it on when he turned around, "ooh no passward I see," I said smirking as I put my name and number in his contacts and handing it back to him "Call or text me whenever you want to hang out again," I said smiling at him.

"Watch out I might just have to take you up on that offer," Damon said over his shoulder as he walked back to his house.

I smiled the while way home and it was a genuine smile. I think that was when I realized he is the first person who has been able to make me feel normal again.
