Heart Beats Fast

It's...a little disorienting, especially for me as I try to recall this day clearly inside my mind.

The day began normally enough! Going to school, saying hi to mom (my parents are divorced) then going upstairs to do my homework. The senior teachers were all strict that year. Seniors (me) had to do more work than usual.

As always, I peeked outside my window, to see their house.

The Cullens.

They had their nice tidy house in the woods, but if you squinted really hard and stared outside my window, you could see the tippy top of their roof.

I had always admired them at school. They came...about two weeks ago. The weird thing about them was, that they were all...together. There's Emmett, and the blonde, Rosalie. Alice and Jasper. Then Edward and Bella. Well, there was one of them that wasn't occupied. The kinda brown haired guy. William. They were an unusual family. One, for being so large (nine in total, counting Dr. Cullen and his wife), and so many teenagers in one place!

They were graceful walking down the hallways, excelled in every class, and even had time to not study during study hall! You have to admit that's weird.

I sighed, stressed at the homework that the teachers had given us. Reading Romeo and Juliet (slightly gross) and a worksheet on the cells of a duck. (Why a duck?) This already took me half an hour to complete. The rest of my homework...I estimated at least two hours.

Anyways, I was doing my homework. Then, I felt bored, and I wanted to go outside. Just to clear my mind for a moment ya know, then immediately come back.

"Hey mom! I'm going for a walk!" I yelled as I slipped my coat on.

I could hear my mom's voice from the kitchen, "Alright sweetie! Just make sure you get back in ten minutes!"

The good thing about my mom, was she knew I was capable to do things myself, and almost never questioned my motives.

Today, the weather was nice. One of the only days it was nice actually in our little town in Oregon.

I started humming to myself as I started walking to the trail inside our little forest. Almost every time I went on the trail, I'd get a glimpse of their perfect little house. Perhaps I was just slightly envious.

Then, I heard someone near me.

A crack. A snapped branch?

Then, a gunshot.

I had no idea what was going on, but my common sense told me to run for my life, as fast as I could!

Perhaps, it was just the sheriff or something, but I can't take that risk!

More shots. Bang. Bang.

They were obviously aiming for me.
I knew I couldn't keep this up for long. Stupid stamina!

Then, I tripped on a log, and fell down.
They got me. And they got me good, right in my arm.
My vision wobbled a little bit before I looked at my blood. Then, my leg was shot. Why was this person shooting me?

I soon fainted. Probably due to the lost of blood.

It wasn't a very long time before someone screamed. I could barely hear it, and I felt like death was near. Oh no, mom will be all alone...
Something heaved me up from the ground with ease, and started running. At least, I think they were running. It felt more like flying.
Then, the pain began.
I don't know how to describe it. It was like a fire...burning into my heart quickly, and trying to destroy it. My body was weak, but I could still cry out in pain, but my pleas were ignored. The pain continued.
At one point, I'm pretty sure I told them I'd rather die than have to suffer through this.
I don't know how much time passed; the pain seemed to have gone on forever. After a little bit...the pain started easing down a bit, but my heart quickened.
My lungs hurt as well. I don't know...it was as if they weren't working anymore, and frozen.
The pain almost had stopped entirely. I heard footsteps all around me, but I couldn't open my eyes.

"It's almost complete," somebody mumbled, before I heard a sigh.

A pat on the back.

"Look, it wasn't your fault...I'm sure she'll be fine once she wakes up. She lost a lot of blood...and I'm pretty sure she was just a minute or two from death," a soft voice said.

"Yeah, but if I had just gotten there, a few minutes earlier..."

The voice chimed...like a harp almost.
"She's going to open her eyes in...exactly thirty seconds," another voice said excitedly.

Thirty...seconds?

"Think she'll be thirsty?" a new voice asked, caring and soft.

Nobody responded to that one.

Ten seconds left.

"Somebody go and clear the room," the voice added.

Shuffling and rearranging. Scraps.

I opened my eyes. The room was...bright, and also dizzy.
I realized that I was lying on... a kind of propped up bed, and that there were people surrounding me. My first thoughts was that these people had kidnapped me and were going to kill me, and drugged me.

"Haha, very funny," somebody mumbled.

Then, I realized that I had seen these people before.
The Cullens. Yes...That's them. All nine of them were here, er...seven. The two named Emmett and Rosalie, I think was gone.
I glanced at each one of them in shock and confusion. What was going on? Why could I hear footsteps echoing all around me when nobody here is walking?

"Sophie?"

Dr. Cullen had called my name. What was going on? Why aren't they talking?
