Straight Outta the Cage

Chapter 21

P.O.V. Of Sam

"Sam!" I looked up from my book on lore to see Samandriel and Cas coming towards me.

"What's up guys? Cas, did you find Dean?" I asked.

"No, we have another problem..." Cas said.

Samandriel took in a deep breath as he looked at me nervously.

"Gabriel is gone."

"Gone?! What? Why?!" I exclaimed.

"We don't know where he has gone." Samandriel said.

"Or if he left out of his own free will or if he was taken."

"Taken by who?" I asked.

"Michael... perhaps." Cas said grimly.

"And if he went on his own free will?" I knew the answer, but I wanted to hope that I was wrong.

"Then maybe he has been working with Michael this whole time." Samandriel sighed. I stood, speechless for a minute, my mind running wild. Gabe wouldn't turn on us like that... But he and Samandriel came back from the dead? Together? Could Samandriel really know something?

I snapped out of it, looked back at Samandriel, and a wave of anger washed over me. I stood up, grabbed Samandriel, and pushed him against the nearest wall. I glared down into Samandriel's surprised eyes.

"Sam!" Cas tried to stop me, but I pushed him away.

"You! Both you and Gabe were supposedly brought back from angel death. Why?!" I hissed in his face.

"I-I don't know, Sam. Neither of us knew! The only thing we knew was that we were supposed to get Adam out of the Cage. We didn't know why and I didn't know how. Gabe had to do it. I'm just a low rank angel."

"So Gabe knows more? WHERE IS HE?!"

"I don't know, Sam! I DON'T! I wish I did! I am never told anything..." Samandriel broke eye contact with me and looked down in dismay.

"Sam. Get off of him!" Adam barreled into me, knocking me away from Samandriel. The angel fell to the floor and Adam went over to him.

"You okay, man?" he asked. Samandriel nodded. I rolled my eyes. This interaction reminded me of so many of Dean and Cas's interactions. Adam stood up and glared at me.

"Sam, what the Hell? We can't turn on each other. Not now! I know you're worried about Gabriel and Dean. We all are! But Lucifer's trying. Just... calm down a little..." Adam said the last sentence quietly.

"I'm sorry." I grumbled to Samandriel. Then I stormed out of the room. I went back to my room and paced for a few moments. Then I stopped and looked around.

"Gabe... I don't know if you can hear me. But I still believe in you. If you're working for Michael-" My voice broke and I looked down at my feet. Maybe I could try Lucifer too. I took a deep breath to try to calm myself.

"Hey, Luci... I need you back here with answers soon. Gabe's missing too. I'm going crazy. I need you here, man." I waited for a minute. Then suddenly the handprint Lucifer had left on my chest began to burn. I flinched.

"Lucifer? What is it?" I gasped through pain.

"Dean..." I could have sworn that Lucifer's voice came through my thoughts, saying my brother's name.

"Sam?" I turned to see Cas.

"Cas. What's up?" I asked.

"I came to ask you that question. Why did you attack Samandriel?" Cas questioned.

"I'm sorry. But thinking about him and Gabe just being brought back... he has to know. There's got to be something he's not telling us." I sighed.

"Sam. Believe me. I don't think Samandriel knows anything." Cas assured me.

"I don't trust him."

"He's your half brother's guardian." Cas looked at me. "You trust me, don't you?"

"Of course, Cas."

"Then you can trust my brothers." Cas said. I nodded.

"Sorry Cas. Maybe it's just my worry talking."

"I know. I'm worried about Gabriel too... and Dean." Cas looked down sadly. "I wasn't able to find him. I looked everywhere. But our bond... I can't feel him at all. It's like he's gone."

I walked over to Cas and put my hand on his shoulder.

"You love him... don't you?" I murmured.

"Yes." Cas said simply. "And I shared this realization with him and he left. No reciprocation."

"Cas. You don't have to worry about that at all. I see the way he looks at you. He loves you. You probably just shocked him. My brother isn't great at showing his feelings. None of us Winchesters have "I love you" in our vocabulary."

"You believe he does love me?"

"Yeah. He'll pull his head out of his ass eventually. I've been hoping you would too. I've been waiting for this moment." I smiled excitedly.

"Really?" Cas gave a nervous laugh.

"He'll be okay, Cas." I assured him.

"Yes. As will Gabriel. I know he cares about you Sam. Just as I care about Dean." Cas told me.

This made my stomach lurch. Gabriel and Lucifer both... My mind flashed back to both kisses. Gabriel's was like a dorky, cute kiss. Like a first kiss of a middle or high school kid. But Lucifer's... his was passionate and... Indescribable.

"What are you thinking about, Sam?" Cas's voice broke my thoughts.

"Hmm? Oh. N-nothing." I stammered, trying to keep myself from turning red. "Uh. I'm going to try to get some rest."

"Very well. You need it." Cas said. And he left the room.

Later that night, I was asleep and dreaming. Lucifer must have been showing me what he was seeing... Lucifer was walking slowly towards a man that was turned around. It was hard for me to tell who he was in the darkness.

"Michael... Where is Gabriel? What have you done with him?" I heard Lucifer say.

"Oh, that doesn't matter, brother." Michael turned. I felt Lucifer's heart drop to his stomach. Or maybe it was mine. Michael was Dean.
