Chapter 1 - The school

May woke up in her bedroom. “MAY! C’MON! WE HAVE SCHOOL!” Kage whined from downstairs. May sighed and walked down the stairs to the kitchen. “Here’s your breakfast!” May’s mom said, handing her a grilled cheese sandwich. May plopped herself on the dining chair, and took a small tentative bite like it was poisonous. “May-Chan guess what guess what?” Kage said as he jumped up and down excitedly. “What is it?” May said, obviously annoyed, her mouth full of grilled cheese. “Kasan said that she’s givin-” Kage was interrupted by their mother who turned on the radio to maximum volume. “MAMA IT’S TOO LOUD!” Kage yelled at the same time the radio said, “Today’s forecast seems critical storm clouds surrounding the airport flights may be delayed.” A moment of silence as the speaker continued speaking. “This weather may perhaps continue for three days.” Another silence Then Kage shouted, “KASAN ITS TOO LOUD!”

“KAGE-KUN SHUT UP!” May said even more loudly. The two continued screaming on the top of their lungs, each sentence louder than the other.

“MAY-CHAN!!!!!! STOP YELLING YOUR VOICE IS SO LOUD!”

“SAYS THE PERSON WHOSE SCREAMING TOO!”

“SHUSH YOUR MOUTH!”

“NOT UNTIL YOU DO!”

“NUH UH YOU FIRST!”

“NO YOU!”

“YOU”

“YOU!!”

“YOU’RE SO STUPID MAY-CHAN YOUR VOICE IS LOUDER!”

“BAKA ITS YOU!”

Their mother shuffled towards them impatiently as she picked up both of their left overs before scraping them in the ‘Food of shame’ bin. “Kage-kun and May-chan hurry up or you’ll be late for school.” The mother said briskly. Kage rolled his eyes carelessly. “Yeah yeah only onachan here is a slowpoke.” May sighed as she got up, swung her backpack around her back and put on her shoes. May stuck out her tongue as she looked at the unprepared kage-kun whose backpack was nowhere to be found. “Who’s the slowpoke now? C’mon Kage-kun were going now or I’ll leave you stranded in the grave yard again.” Kage sniffled stiffly as he quickly got prepared. “Bye Kasan!” They both shouted in unison.

Kage-kun skipped playfully before he tripped. For the sixth time this week. That Baka. “Owwwwww!” He whined. “Hn, thought you were in highschool or something what are you? Three?” May said ignoring his moaning. “WHAT IF I GOT INFECTED?!” Kage suddenly screamed Frantically as he pulled his jeans up to see how severe the wound was. “Sure you got infected.” Kages eyes widened in fear. “W-what kind of infection?” He asked. “The-you’ll go-to-Hell-and-get-tortured-forever-when-you-die-infection.” May said casually. “NOOOOO-” May slapped him in the face, sick of his three year old attitude he was in high school now!

“OI SHUT UP KAGE-KUN!” She hissed at him angrily. “If you want to survive in this world then you’ve got to toughen up. It’s either you survive in this world or the world will turn on YOU.” Kage only nodded before mumbling. “Y-yes Onachan.”

“Onasan.” May corrected him. “I’m almost an adult so get used to it. “May!” May’s closest friend, Grace McGlea came running over, bag in hand. “Oh, Hey Grace!” May said, pushing Kage out of the way. “Guess who’s in our class!” Grace said, setting her bag down and fumbling to get the class list out of her bag. “Who?” May asked.

Kage sighed and began to walk away to find his own friends. ” Lucas Grayson... Aloi Copper... Marcus Volterra.... Marinette Dupain-Cheng... Errin CQ... Monika Salvato....Adrien Agreste...” Grace listed, reading the piece of paper in her hand. “Wait, did you say ADRIEN AGRESTE?!” May screeched. Adrien was the famous teenage fashion model that toured all around the world for his shootings. May hadn’t met him in person, but she had seen his fashion shooting in Kyoto, and her friends there had said it was the best thing that had ever happened to them. And she was meeting him on the first day of her arrival in Paris! This was definitely the best day ever!

“Mhmm... that’s what I said.” Grace glanced at May, eyes narrowed. “What? Don’t tell me you’re a fangirl.” she said. May shook her head hesitantly. She wasn’t really a fangirl, as she hadn’t seen a single movie he’d starred in. She was just excited to meet a celebrity. Grace sighed in relief. “Oh, thank god. I was worried for a second. Anyways, the exciting thing is...IS-” Grace was interrupted by Kage who claimed that his knee was in excruciating pain. “May, why is he acting like a baby?” Grace whispered to her. May shrugged and sighed. Kage was too much to handle. It would be better if he just died in a pit. “Honestly, he’s been like that ever since he started highschool.” Grace nodded. “Hm, ok.” Was her only reply as she skipped ahead. “Grace I came up with a new name for Kage-kun too!” May said as she caught up with grace, Grace’s eyes sparkled mischiefly. “Oh really?”

“Mhm, it’s for my new story too.” May made sure that her voice was loud enough for Kage to hear as his ears perked up excitedly like a puppy dog wagging its tail. “It’s..........” May stifled her laugh as she tried to put on a serious face. Boy that failed so badly. She laughed so hard which probably made Grace think that May had mental issues. “B-Baka its....Baka” May choked. Grace frowned. “What kind of na-oh.” Grace soon was bursting with laughter too. “Hey!” Kage protested as he pumped into an Old lady’s back. It was an accident, a total accident however the old lady did not think so. “Tu Pervers!” The old lady shouted, whacking her cane on Kage’s head. “Zu not trrry to ’ug me!”

May’s french was average but she understood that, that old lady just called Kage a Pervert. She smirked. Best. Day. Ever. The old lady strode off tutting leaving Kage stunned as he rubbed his head. And May here decided to do a tinsy winsy extra favor for him.................By saying. “OI BAKA BAKA BAKA BUSU OBACHAN NI OCORARETA NE!!!” Kage glared. So he wasn’t a complete idiot after all, what a big surprise. He actually understood that she called him stupid, ugly and that he got scolded by an old lady. “Humph at least I’m the favourite one to our parents, you’re just an extra luggage, a burden.” Kage pouted. Okay this was war now. “I’m sorry but I came here first in case you didn’t notice if anyone here that’s a burden it’s you!!” May shot back oblivious to the fact that Grace was just standing beside May overhearing their argument, just standing there....like a third wheel...

“OH REALLY?!” Screeched Kage furiously. “SAYS THE PERSON WHO GETS IN TROUBLE A LOT!”

“THAT’S BECAUSE YOU KEEP BLAMING STUFF ON ME!” May shrieked.

“THEY BELIEVE ME! WHY!? BECAUSE THEY LIKE ME THE MOST AND EVERY TIME YOU TRY TO BLAME THINGS ON ME THEY NEVER BELIEVE YOU SO HA!”

“HN, AT LEAST I’M NOT A LIAR LIKE YOU!”

“DO I LOOK LIKE I CARE!? BAKA I DON’T!”

“USURATONKACHI!”

“HOW DARE YOU CALL ME LOSER!!”

“YOU CALLED ME STUPID!”

“SHUT UP MAY!”

“YOU SHUT UP DOBE!” (That means Idiot in japanese)

“Um... guys? Class is starting in ten minutes.” Grace told them. They both turned to look at her. May cleared her throat and said, “erm yes thanks for the reminder Grace now erm let’s go because this Dobe here”- May crossly looked at Kage-“Thinks that I’m an extra luggage, a burden its best to leave him here.”

Grace timidly nodded. “Right. Well, we better get going- CAT!” she screeched suddenly, pointing wildly at the street. May blinked and turned just in time to see a black cat strut away from view. “Cat.” May said blankly.

“YES A CAT!!!” Grace was wildly bouncing up and down.

“Cat”

“NO ITS A CAT!!!”

“I know Cat”

“ARGH NO CAT!!!”

“I said Cat”

“NO NO NO I SAID CAT!!!!”

“So um.....CAT!!!!!!!!”

“YES FINALLY YOU GOT IT!!! ITS A CAT!!!”

“What’s the difference?”

“You said it so blankly while I said it like I am over exaggerating every syllable.” Grace clarified. May rolled her eyes as the bell rang, signalling the start of the school day. “C’mon, we’re going to be late!” Grace cried, grabbing May’s arm and dragging her to the classroom. May sighed and turned her friend around to face her. “Grace, you’re 16. You need to grow up. Seriously.” May said. Grace stared blankly at May. May sighed in frustration and let her go, giving up. They both headed to class silently, neither uttering a single word.

“Oh! I never told you, did I?” Grace said suddenly, breaking the silence. “What?” May asked. “We have a transfer student! Her name’s Isabelle! She’s from London, and she’s only staying for a day or two while she waits to get accepted into this other school, but still, isn’t that cool?!” Grace exclaimed. May considered this, the more new faces there are the more new friends she actually might be able to make. At first May had felt some anxiety boiling up in her chests but now maybe she thought about it a little bit too far. They finally made it to class, only two minutes late. The teacher looked at them before sighing and gesturing for them to take their seats.

“Welcome to your first Science class. My name is Dr. David Micheal, but you can call me Mr. M.” The teacher began. May sighed and looked away, bored. She began to watch the kids in her class, looking for a distraction from the lecture. There was a girl with short black hair sitting beside them, aimlessly doodling on her note sheet. Her friend, an indian girl with long wavy hair, occasionally glanced over her shoulder to see the drawing before bringing her attention back to the teacher. Behind them were two boys. One was an indian boy with headphones and a baseball cap on. The other...
