Chapter 1

When she woke up the next day, for the smallest moment she forgot that he was gone. Zoe still felt the warmth from his body against hers and when she got up for her duties she felt his arms pulling her back into bed for just another minute. Life outside her bunker was painful. The crew meant well, but they all wanted to talk. She just wanted to work.

The dinosaurs were gone. Who would be damn fool enough to move Wash’s dinosaurs? Mal made for the kitchen.

“Which one of you bun tyen-shung duh ee-dway-ro took ’em? Huh? He ain’t even lukewarm yet and everybody wants to forget him?”

She had come through the door so silently that he didn’t notice her until Kaylee piped in with a quiet, “Captain...”

Zoe’s look was pointed. “No use livin’ in the past.”

Nothing else was said.

She hesitated. Why had she hesitated? Mal gripped her arm so tight that Zoe almost had trouble freeing herself.

“You so keen to die? What would Wash think of you, throwin’ yourself in front of Reavers? Life’s such a terrible burden that you’re so eager to be rid of it?” His tone had started at a dangerous whisper but now he was almost yelling.

“Hoo-tsuh! Woman, you make me so mad. Kao! Hoe-tze duh..Chiang-bao hoe...bhijoi!”

"Captain!"

"What?!"

"I'm pregnant!"

ga1984: I really enjoyed it! Characters were deep and plot was pretty complex. A bit on the violent side but it doesnt detract from the story. Very dark but situations make sense. Ends kinda abruptly and later chapters will need some editing work. I'm assuming there's more in the works?

Alexis Dredd Zarcal: Overall, it's a rather thrilling piece, merging superstition, psychology, slice of life, and the usual Japanese risque fare. Someone: This was a lovely read -- very clean stylistically, developed setting, fairly interesting plot. The characters occasionally felt inconsistent, but overall they were well-developed. Dru83: This is probably the fourth time I've read this one. I read this a few times on fictionpress as dru83. This is a wonderful story. It still needs a lot of shining up as there are many instances of punctuation issues, grammar issues, and issues with using the wrong word. But all that still can't ta...

William Po: Enjoyed the characters and story of the USAF during WWII. Author seems knowledgeable about planes and situations faced by bomber personnel. Also the suffering the air war caused on both sides to civilians.

Tiffany Thomson: This story is not something I would normally pick up and read but I'm so glad I did, I wasn't able to put it down and my husband was yelling at me at 3am to put it down and go to bed (just waited for him to doze back off before picking it back up) I really hope Natalie brings out another book eit...
