Chapter 1

When she woke up the next day, for the smallest moment she forgot that he was gone. Zoe still felt the warmth from his body against hers and when she got up for her duties she felt his arms pulling her back into bed for just another minute. Life outside her bunker was painful. The crew meant well, but they all wanted to talk. She just wanted to work.

The dinosaurs were gone. Who would be damn fool enough to move Wash’s dinosaurs? Mal made for the kitchen.

“Which one of you bun tyen-shung duh ee-dway-ro took ’em? Huh? He ain’t even lukewarm yet and everybody wants to forget him?”

She had come through the door so silently that he didn’t notice her until Kaylee piped in with a quiet, “Captain...”

Zoe’s look was pointed. “No use livin’ in the past.”

Nothing else was said.

She hesitated. Why had she hesitated? Mal gripped her arm so tight that Zoe almost had trouble freeing herself.

“You so keen to die? What would Wash think of you, throwin’ yourself in front of Reavers? Life’s such a terrible burden that you’re so eager to be rid of it?” His tone had started at a dangerous whisper but now he was almost yelling.

“Hoo-tsuh! Woman, you make me so mad. Kao! Hoe-tze duh..Chiang-bao hoe...bhijoi!”

"Captain!"

"What?!"

"I'm pregnant!"

Profezzer: This is a prequel of sorts to a much larger drama that happens a couple thousand years in the future. The Olafson saga is as good as any I have read and ranks up there with some greats in terms of plot and the construction of her universe. Her one detraction is spelling and punctuation but do n...

RomanceFreak: Holy Grail of Cracker Jack Surprises!👏 Ok so as a shifter finatic I wouldn't recommend this but for those new readers to shifter novels this would be a great start.😐 it was interesting from the beginning to the end, not the good interesting but not the bad either.😕 In a couple of spots I was lik...

FateFellShort: I have read this story and have followed the writers on tumblr from the beginning. Its a wonderful story. Dina Husseini: It was a great hook. I do not like reading scifi because they end up being like all the rest but this one kept me wanting more.

Warchief: The biggest problem with the Harry Potter series is that it's all from his point of view. So we never really get to see or understand events from other peoples perspective. I think that they would be more than a few people that want to know what happened at Hogwarts during that last year.As far a...

ga1984: I really enjoyed it! Characters were deep and plot was pretty complex. A bit on the violent side but it doesnt detract from the story. Very dark but situations make sense. Ends kinda abruptly and later chapters will need some editing work. I'm assuming there's more in the works?

Jean Tryon: As a beta, I found this story outstanding!! Plot, grammar, phraseology, etc Rachel gives us it all. She takes the story into the future from where due South ends. She is an exacting and thoughtful author.
