The Real Hero of Canton

By HarrietH2O

Romance / Scifi

Chapter 1

Fess Higgins remembered.

When he stood up to his father for the first time - he remembered. When his father died and he became Magistrate - he remembered. As he slowly started to loosen the rules making the mudders’ lives hell - he remembered. When the first Mudders’ Unions were set up, and the decrees for fair pay were passed, and the harsh punishments were lifted -

He remembered.

Whenever he let his conscience win over his obedience to his father, he remembered how she’d nurtured him. Whenever one of the workers thanked him, tears in their eyes, for the improvements he had made to their lives, he remembered that it was her who had made him what he was today.

He looked with his mind’s eye at how the town had been before, and he remembered.

He looked at how the town was now - thriving and happy - with the mudders producing more clay now than ever, and he never forgot.

Whenever he walked past the statue of Jayne Cobb in the town square, he remembered who the real hero of Canton was. He remembered how her words had changed him; how she’d shown him that he was his own person. How she’d taught him to make his own choices.

The real hero of Canton.

The woman who had taught him to be a man.

The story also has some sick plot twists, which I never saw coming. I loved the fact that it is an adorable love story but has its mystery touc...

Sandra Estrada: I loved every minute of it and I thank my lucky stars that brought me to the story, it's been a whirlwind of emotions, plot twist after plot twist but I never got tired of them. Abby and Kade's story is a hard one to understand but once you're submerged in their story and love, you can't help but...

minallie: One word, brilliant

snowview03: This is the first book I have read on this app and I loved it! When I read the title I thought about the hunger games, but this novel is so much more. Alani Foreigner: I absolutely loved how you created this story. It isn't like the other cliché stories I've ever read. I had just started reading it yesterday and just had to finish it. The main characters are grotesquely awesome and I fell in love with them. If you're into fantasy and stuff I can guarantee that ...

OpheliaJones: This story took a different kind of spin on the "normal girl lives with definitely not normal guy" plot. The plot points of Frey's father, Liam's family, and Frey's view of Liam's world were good to read. She did not fall in love with him in the first couple weeks. Their lives were not smooth in ...

emmaneal74: I loved this booked. Would definitely buy it when published and read it again. The story flowed in such a way I just couldn't put it down. I was never confused about the characters or their roles in the story which can happen sometimes with so many lead. I'd recommend this to anyone wanting to r...

zoheusher20: What more can I say? The writing style and little details drew me into the book and for the entirety of the story I was Juliet. I felt her turmoil and emotions and every trouble or triumph as they arrived. This story was very different and had quite a few little but unexpected twists that made it...

Dessie Williams: loved the book. the plot the characters all just great.I think it's a must read. once you start this book it's hard to put down. hope it gets published....I think this book is a must read.great job!!!!

nirrmitshah: A truely touching story where you'd be at the edge of your seat for the most time. even though the starting might seem rushed, the story was extremely interesting and entertaining. I think certain parts could be added detailing the Mynds's culture. As well as more details on the Jhanthru history....

Sabrina Ettey: The story plot is great. I loved it. Just the grammar punctuation and writing style was kind of distracting. But with the smooth polishing, it may shine like a pearl. :)

Alex Rushmer: Chapter One: Not much is happening in this chapter, but I was absolutely fascinated by the depth of your character development. I love how you just sat there with the reader and explored Eddward. Usually, that sort of thing gets boring very fast, but this was actually really cool! He's so unique ...
