Chapter 1

ON A PLANET FAR, FAR AWAY …

By Victoria E.

After that terrible, unexpected moment when Wash was skewered by a Reaver … skewer, we believed it was the end of his life as husband, pilot and cast member of Serenity. It was, however, only the beginning of a new adventure.

The Reavers, those who weren’t killed by Zoe, Jayne, and the crew, took him back to their ship to keep for an afternoon snack. As they retreated, they stopped at a nearby planet for fresh meat. During the savage slaughter, Wash’s nearly lifeless body was taken from the ship by the planet’s inhabitants, who just happened to be mystical healers.

The people, who were known as the Seaquills, took Wash to their temple, chapel … whatever. They began to sing folk songs, wave their arms, and jump up and down. Suddenly the giant hole in his chest began to heal. The ritual went on for hours.

The next morning Wash was sitting up eating a protein shake. Everything seemed to be healing nicely except his memory, which was lost.

The people called him Windy … taken from the only phrase he could remember from his past life. He was very grateful to these people, but he knew he must find his own family

He wandered though the galaxy trying to remember who he was and where he got that stupid Hawaiian shirt. He landed on Persephone and found the sunsets familiar, he flew by Canton and recognized a terrible stench, but none of these experiences explained his past life or why be could fly a spaceship.

He took a fry cook opportunity on one of the trade planets hoping to meet someone in the crowds who would recognize him. Across the room he saw a tall, beautiful, dark-skinned woman who seemed familiar, but a little scary.

She caught his glance and walked slowly across the room to him in disbelief. Softly she said, “Wash?” “No,” he said, “my name is Windy, but you can call me anything you like.”

The rest of the crew spotted him and came over to greet him. Slowly the pieces of his “life that was” started to fit together.

Mal was his captain, Zoe was his wife, and he was a thief! Wacky, fun memories!

They all reminisced about the past, but more importantly, they now could look forward to a future that included the filming of Serenity II: The Search for Wash.
