Ending It

Shutting her eyes she felt his hot breath brush her lips gently as he closed the gap between them. The kiss was sweet and chaste to begin with; she could taste caramel on his lips and chuckled as she imagined him sneaking sweets before breakfast. His hands moved up to cup her face, his thumbs stroking her cheeks. She sighed, leaning in to his touch. It was a gentle caress, a rare show of his sweeter side which she reveled in.

It wasn't long before he deepened the kiss, his tongue swiping eagerly across her lips asking for access. She felt his hands leave her face, a coldness settling there instead, and hoped that he would hold her waist instead of anywhere else. As the kiss became more risque she found herself wishing it was over, that it wouldn't go any further tonight. Unfortunately he had other ideas, taking her arms in his hands and pushing her towards their bedroom.

"Stop." His face turned a light shade of pink as he gave her some space, rubbing his left elbow gingerly. She gathered her thoughts and caught her breath, taking everything in. His tousled hair and wide eyes that had once been her whole world had lost their sparkle, they seemed duller nowadays. His personality traits that had endeared him to her before were now annoyances, especially when she was trying to get some work done. Tears began to pool in the corners of her eyes as she struggled to make sense of what she was feeling, of what had happened to her love. "Ron, I..."

"Don't Hermione, just don't, okay?" He turned his back to her, eyes closed, and prayed that this wasn't happening and that it was all a dream. Her hand on his arm proved that it wasn't, and he felt tears start to run down his cheeks. "I know." he whispered as she turned him to face her. "I know that you don't love me anymore."

"Ron I care deeply about you, but you're right that I'm not in love with you." Their eyes met, the sadness within both of them spilling over the sides as his arms engulfed her in a hug. It felt safe, being in his arms, but it didn't feel right. "I'm sorry Ron, but I can't go on like this."

The hug lasted for a few minutes before Ron broke it off, walking towards their bedroom. Hermione watched him with tears in her eyes, wondering what was going on.

"Do you think you can give me some time...alone?" she hung her head and nodded, knowing that their relationship was over after all this time. "I just need to process everything."

"I'll come and pick my things up tomorrow." She grabbed her coat and keys and left for her parents' house; a safe haven to recuperate. She sent Harry a text on the way, asking him to keep an eye on Ron. He may have a tough exterior but she knew that he would be hurting, and that he would need someone to be there for him right now.

GeorgeS: The author has a VERY refreshingly direct writing style. Sometimes being punched in the gut (or nose, as the case may be) can be an excellent thing, indeed. Whatever may be lacking in subtlety is more than made up for in the diamond clarity of character development. I look forward to MORE. I c...

star_powered: Off Pitch is a fun and sexy lesbian romance filled with incredible humour (one of the few stories that has ever made me laugh out loud), heart-wrenching drama, and lots of fluff. LouiseJ2: I enjoyed the detail you went into with regards to the case. It made the UNSUB appear believable.
