“I knew you would come.” The Snake smiled, “Sasuke, Uchiha.”
“I’m only here because of your offer.” Sasuke was tense, you could feel it radiating from him.
“Of course.” Orochimaru was just beaming of amusement, it made you a little uncomfortable. “You seek to kill your brother, Itachi. You’ve got quite a ways to go before you’re on his level.”
“Are you going to help me or not?”
“Yes, I’ll help you.” You felt eyes on you, though you didn’t know whose. Sasuke or Orochimaru? “And who’s this?”
“If you lay a finger on her, I’ll kill you.”
There was a menacing, amused laugh that emanated from the Snake’s throat, “Of course…”
What was Sasuke getting himself into?
“Sasuke may still be young, but he’s definitely getting stronger. He may end up even surpassing you, Lord Orochimaru.”
“You’re always so worried about me, Kabuto. Do I truly appear so delicate?”
“If Sasuke turns on you, he could possibly kill you.”
“I know he won’t. There’s still much I can teach him and he has a strong desire for power. Someone after my own heart.”
It was probably low of you to eavesdrop but you continued to have this gnawing feeling in your gut like something bad was going to happen. So today, you decided to act on that feeling and see if you could uncover any information.
“Maybe you should slow down with him a bit. You still have some time before you can switch bodies again.”
You heard the footsteps coming towards you before you felt their presence. You assumed a lost, dumbfounded stance, reaching out around you as if trying to figure out where you were going. It was quite the fake act, Sasuke and you had been here for almost a year so you had had plenty of time to memorize the hideout, but Orochimaru and Kabuto still treated you like the helpless blind girl--Kabuto making fun of you the majority of the time for it. Their folly. They still had no idea of your true abilities.
“What are you doing here?” Kabuto’s angry voice resonated off the stone walls.
You had begun walking again, slowly, before he found you, so you bumped into him. “I’m so sorry! I think I’m lost…” You heard his irritated sigh, and the sound of him pushing up his glasses.
“Show her back to her room, Kabuto.” Orochimaru said in a flat voice that gave you chills. You noticed something underlying in his tone, was he trying to figure you out? Had you given too much away by snooping?
“Come on.” Kabuto grabbed your arm and drug you back through the halls you had come from.
“What?” Sasuke was staggered by your news.
“I think that’s why he’s looked so different every time you’ve run into him, and maybe that’s how he plans to live forever… But he needs a strong, powerful body he can take over. I think that’s why he wanted to train you!” You whispered, afraid of the ears in the walls.
“I knew he was evil… But I never expected this…”
“We need to get out of here.”
“I can’t just leave. I’ll never get my revenge if I quit now.” Sasuke sounded determined, you didn’t like that, “I’ll use him a little longer, then I’ll kill him, then we can leave.”
He walked up to you and cupped both sides of your face, “I know this is frightening for you, but I promise…” He hugged you to his chest now, the most intimate thing the two of you had ever done before, “I’ll never let anything happen to you.” He pulled away slightly to look down at your face. He kissed your forehead, “Do you trust me?” You just nodded, defeated in your attempt to convince him to leave.
