it was mid november, walking down the chilly windy sidewalk, the street lights flickering from the rain rushing down onto the concreate floors. i had a black waterproof jacket on with my clear umbrella trying to hurry up to my apartment. when i finally got to my building i took the elevator to go to my floor. i was here for NYU but I could no longer afford the tuition and balance my high rise apartment with a minimum wage job. i was always starving at the end of each shift, so i got some food on the way back from the coffee shop to work at. i placed the brown paper bag on the cold kitchen counter and went to go get some utensils to eat my burrito bowl.
i scrolled through social media while i was eating until i was full. got ready for bed and then flopped onto my mattress. turned off my dim lamp on my bedside table. flick.
"rise and shine sleeping beauty" my roommate Kai woke me up I grunted into the pillow and pulled the tan covers over my head. "you need to get to work come on!" i shot up from my bed right after he said that.
"wait what? I have work today?" i panicked looking at my apple watch.
"no you just need to wake up, it's already noon." he smirked.
"you stupid. fucking. asshole." i snapped. i grabbed the pillow next to me and threw it at the door while he was closing it. ugh.
a few hours pass and i wanted to read a little bit at central park, it was near me anyway. i grabbed a few books and some snacks in my bag and headed out the door. it was a nice day out, i was enjoying the moment which seemed like the only time New York hadn't rained in at least a month. around the corner of my eye i saw a tall dark haired man just appear out of thin air. "i'm tripping right now." i muttered. the guy next to me gave me a strange look then walked away. i rolled my eyes and kept walking my path. this is goddamn New York weird stuff happens here. I saw him look at me, I looked straight away.
"excuse me! ma'am!" he pleated.
"what?" I turned around
"what year is it?" he asked.
"dude have you been living under a rock?"
"no...just tell me please."
"it's 2020." i replied. "people should know what year it is."
his eyes widened. weirdo.
