In the Summer of 1992...

Michael ran through the forest, screaming his head off.

"Please!", he screamed at the cloud of smoke. "Stay away!"

He didn't know whether it was a ghost of a person or an evil spirit, but he knew he needed to run.

The smoke started to gain up on him, and Michael only screamed louder. He could do nothing but run.

This all started that same day when Michael was at a jewelry shop.

He was looking for a necklace for a girl (Melissa) that he was in a relationship with. He wanted to show his utter love and appreciation for her. He wanted it to be special. It had to be special, or she would leave him.

Michael looked out of the window of the shop and waved at his fans. They all screamed and waved back. He smiled.

All of a sudden something caught his eye. A shiny, small, black necklace.

It wasn't much. It was only a small, black jewel the size of a fingernail, attached to a gold chain. On the jewel was a tiny 'M' engraved in it. Michael smiled.

He nearly fell as he ran to the counter to pay for the necklace. The person saw it and froze. His eyes went as wide as saucers and his face as pale as snow on a cold winter morning.

"A-are you s-sure you w-wanna b-buy that?", the person said, stuttering and shaking.

Michael furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. "Um...yes. Yeah. I'm sure."

The man sighed and took the necklace to scan it. "That'll be...$32.98, please."

Michael took out his card to pay with it. And no, it didn't decline.

The cashier sighed as he handed Michael his necklace. "Have a good day."

Michael smiled. "You too."

As Michael was walking out the door, the cashier called him back.

"Michael!", he said. Michael turned around.

"Yes?", he said.

"Don't break it.", the cashier warned.

Michael nodded. "Um..ok...?"

He walked out of the shop, his body guards right behind.

Michael, for the first time in his life, ignored his fans' screams of delight. He didn't say that he loved them when they said they loved him, he didn't sign any autographs...the press would be all over this the next day.

Michael didn't care, though. He was too busy thinking about the way the cashier warned him not to break the necklace. He sounded like something bad was going to happen if he did.

Michael was so into this thought that he hadn't noticed that they were in the parking lot and that his chauffeur had opened the car door for him and was waiting for him to get in the car.

"Oh, sorry!", he said. He got in the car and waited for it to take off.

When it eventually did so without killing any fans in front of the car, Michael took a look at the necklace.

He started wondering whether Melissa would like it or not. It was as plain as unflavored yogurt and as dull as a pencil that is not sharp. Michael sighed. He wished he could go back to the store and return it for something better, but they were already on the highway.

All of a sudden Michael felt a stabbing pain in his chest. It was a type of pain that, if felt for a long time, you start to cry and scream, and that's just what Michael did.

"Ahh!", he screamed. His driver looked over his shoulder.

"What's wrong?", he asked. Michael shook his head and shrugged, unable to speak, for the pain was unbearable.

The driver pulled over and was about to get out the car when his eyes went to Michael's chest.

"Why are you wearing Melissa's necklace?", he asked.

Michael looked down. His eyes were blurry from crying, but he could see that he was in fact wearing her necklace.

This time, however, the jewel was red instead of black.

Michael thought that it was red because of his chest bleeding, so he quickly pulled off the necklace, only to find no blood near his chest.

Michael started to calm down a bit more. He didn't know what had happened, but he was glad that it was over, whatever it was.

The driver looked at Michael in utter confusion, sighed, and started back on the road.

Michael was breathing heavily. He didn't know what had happened, and he tried to keep it out his mind, but it kept coming back to him.

It was as if someone was continuously clawing at his chest, and he didn't know why.

Maybe it was just his imagination, but it felt so real.

After a couple of hours, they finally arrived at Neverland. Michael had the necklace in his hand and was holding it tight. His security ran to the door to open it for him. Once he stepped in, he saw Melissa was standing in the doorway.

"Where have you been? I've been worried sick.", Melissa said, pulling him in and kissing his forehead.

Michael giggled. "I was only gone for a couple hours. I got you something."

Melissa's eyes went wide with excitement. "What did you get?"

Michael showed her the necklace in her hand. Melissa's smile faded.

"It's a necklace!", Michael said enthusiastically.

Melissa didn't say anything at first. Then she snatched the necklace out of his hands.

"Why did you get this?", she hissed.

Michael furrowed his eyebrows. "Um..because I love you...?"

Melissa glared at him. "If you really loved me, you wouldn't have gotten me this."

Michael was surprised by her tone. She rarely talked like this.

"What the hell are you talking about?", he said angrily.

"Do you understand what you've done?!", Melissa screamed. "You've made the worst mistake of your life!"

Michael was so confused. Why was she acting like this?

"Haven't you heard the rumors? The stories of people who died because of this necklace? Haven't you?", Melissa said.

Michael stared at the necklace and then at her.

"What are you even saying?", Michael asked.

Melissa ignored him and looked at the clock that hung on their wall. "Where did you get this necklace?"

"The Nobel Jewelry Shop.", he replied.

Melissa cussed under her breath. "Their closed. Look, first thing tomorrow morning, you need to walk right in there and return this necklace."

Michael took the necklace from her. "Why?", he asked.

Melissa sighed , exasperated. "Just return it tomorrow." She started to walk off.

Michael caught up with her and grabbed her arm.

"Why?", he asked again, more angrily this time.

Melissa turned to him and glared at him. "Because you will die if you don't."

Michael let go of her arm and stared at her like she was crazy. "What the fuck are you talking about? It's a fucking necklace!"

Melissa looked at the necklace. "I can't believe you."

Michael pressed his lips together in anger. "You are fucking crazy."

Melissa rolled her eyes. "I guess I am. I'm dating a psychopathic bitch like yourself."

Michael felt tears welling up in his eyes when she said that. He tried to blink them away, but he couldn't. He started to cry.

Melissa's hard gaze on Michael softened. She felt bad for him. It's not his fault he didn't know. She should've told him instead of freaking out.

"Michael,", she said, rubbing his back, "I'm-"

"No.", Michael said, drying his tears. "Don't say anything. I understand."

Melissa stepped back. "Really? You'll return it?", she said happily.

Michael looked at her with pure hatred in his eyes. "What happens when I break this?", he said lifting up the necklace.

Melissa stayed silent for a while. "I...the...it's hard to explain.", she replied after a while.

Michael scoffed. "I knew you were lying. You don't appreciate anything I do, do you?"

They stared at each other for a while. Melissa had utter confusion in her eyes, while Michael had anger in his eyes. He couldn't believe that Melissa was lying to him about something she didn't have to lie about.

They stared for what seemed like hours before Michael raised the necklace over his head and threw it on the ground.

Melissa's eyes went wide with surprise and fear. "Michael!", she screamed. "Michael, no!"

Michael ignored her, and without thinking, stepped on the necklace.

All of a sudden, a cloud of black smoke arose from the jewel. It seemed to get bigger and bigger the more Michael looked at it. The smoke seemed to form into some kind of face, but it didn't have a nose or a mouth.

All it had were two red eyes, as red as blood.

"Michael!", Melissa screamed. "Run!"

Michael didn't move. He couldn't move. He was too scared to run.

"Michael! You have to run!", Melissa screamed.

Michael started backing away from the cloud of smoke to walk out the door. He expected the smoke to stay where it was, but silly him, it only moved closer to him.

'It's gonna follow me', Michael thought. 'I don't know what to do.'

It was true, he had know idea what to do.

"Michael, please! It'll kill you!", Melissa screamed.

Michael looked at the door and without a second thought, bolted through it, the smoke following close behind him.

End of flashback...

Michael kept running through the woods. He didn't stop, and he promised himself that he wouldn't, even if he had to keep running for hours on end.

Michael looked behind him, something that he wished he hadn't done. The smoke was very close behind him. Before Michael could even scream, he fell over a conveniently placed rock.

Michael tried to stand up, but he couldn't. He looked up at the puff of smoke and froze in terror. He didn't dare move a muscle.

He watched in horror as the puff of smoke came closer to him. All of a sudden, it started to speak.

"You idiot.", it hissed at Michael. Michael's heart and head started pounding. There were so many thoughts running through his head.

"How can it talk if it has no mouth?"
"Did Melissa call the police?"
"Is this a dream?"
"Will it kill me?"

The smoke started to laugh. It was such a haunting laugh that Michael started to back away from it. "You think I will waste my time killing such a disgusting human like yourself?", the smoke said.

Michael's heart skipped a beat. Could this thing read his mind?

"Yes, I can read your mind.", it said. "You pathetic fool. How dare you awake me from my slumber? You shall pay for your crime, you ignorant fool."

Michael's breathing became faster and faster. He didn't know what to do.

All of a sudden, the smoke came careening towards Michael. Michael screamed.

Since Michael's mouth was wide open, the smoke was able to enter Michael withe ease. Make that as dirty as you want it to be.

Nothing happened at first. Michael was breathing heavily. He hadn't realized he was crying. He felt tears running down his face, and some tears were building up in his eyes. He started to run back to the house.

Once he got back to the house, he walked inside to find Melissa was talking to security.

"I don't know where he went. We have to go find him.", Melissa said. Her voice was shaking and tears were running down her face. Michael walked in.

"It's fine. I'm right here.", he said. Melissa looked over her shoulder at Michael. She ran to him and hugged him tightly.

"I'm so glad you're OK!", she exclaimed. Michael hugged her back.

All of a sudden she slapped him.

"Ow!", he screamed. "What the hell!"

"What the hell is wrong with you? You scared the shit out of me! You could've killed us all!", she screamed.

Then she hugged him again.

"I'm getting mixed signals. What is happening?", Michael said, looking at his bodyguards for help.

They merely laughed.

"I'm so glad it didn't get you!", she exclaimed.

She pulled away from him.

"It didn't get you, right?", she asked, looking him deep in the eyes.

"Uh, what do you mean by that?", Michael asked, his voice slightly shaking.

"Did it come inside you? Did it enter you? Did it get you? Please say no. You're gonna say no, right? Say no.", she pleaded.

You and I both know that he couldn't say no.

When the smoke -- which is really just an evil spirit -- entered Michael, it immediately got full control of Michael. He just doesn't know it yet.

He'll have to find out the hard way, unfortunately.

Before Michael could answer, his hand started twitching. He thought it was just because he was anxious, but it was actually because of something far, far worse.

His hand twitched again. And again. It twitched until his fingers transformed into claws.

Michael screamed in pain. His screams turned to growls as his other hand went through the same transformation. His veins pulsed in his skin, and his face became as red as blood.

The pain was unbearable, and Michael held his stomach and fell to his knees.

'What is happening?!', he thought.

'I control you, Michael. This is your punishment. You are my slave now, Michael. And you will do as I say.', a voice said.

The voice echoed in his mind, and Michael felt a shiver down his spine.

'Kill them. All of them.', the voice said.

'No, I can't.', Michael thought.

He felt a sudden pain in his stomach. He screamed.

'You will do as I say, or else!', the voice commanded.

Michael saw, out of the corner of his eye, Melissa and his bodyguards trembling in a corner.

"M-Michael...?", Melissa said, walking towards him.

"Go away!", Michael growled at her.

Melissa looked into the eyes of Michael. They were usually a beautiful brown color that reminded Melissa of Swedish chocolate, but instead, his eyes were black.

As black as his soul.

Michael stood up, still staring at Melissa with a mighty rage.

Melissa couldn't move. But she could scream.

Michael made an animalistic roar. His body guards grabbed Melissa and ran to hide. Michael followed them, growling and roaring as he went.

The bodyguards took Melissa to Michael's room. They threw her in the closet and closed the door shut.

"Don't make a sound.", one of the bodyguards said before closing the door. Melissa sat down in the dark closet and didn't say or do anything.

She tried to control her breathing, not that it could be heard over the loud roaring of Michael, along with the screaming of his bodyguards.

Melissa trembled in fear as she hid in the closet. Meanwhile, Michael was scratching, biting and fighting his own bodyguards.

All of a sudden, Melissa heard the sound of something -- maybe an animal -- eating something (or in this case, someone). Melissa didn't know what it was. Little did she know, she was about to find out.

All of a sudden, the growling and screaming stopped. Melissa waited for a few seconds. Nothing happened. Complete silence.

Melissa opened the closet door, and what she saw shook her to her core.

Lying on the ground were the two bodyguards. Dead.

One had his neck torn open with half of his heart lying next to him. His stomach was torn open, and some of his intestines were lying on the bed.

The other one wasn't any better. He had his eyes torn out of their sockets, and his hand was torn off. His ears were lying next to him, and the earlobes were missing. His teeth were completely gone, and his heart was lying on his midsection.

Melissa felt sick, but she had to hold back her vomit. She looked around the room, looking for Michael. She couldn't find him. She looked under the bed, behind the door, and under the bed again, but she couldn't find him.

All of a sudden, Melissa felt a hand on her shoulder. She froze.

"Looking for me?", a low, raspy voice whispered in her ear. Melissa turned around.

Michael looked down on her with his black eyes. A small smirk was forming on his lips.

Melissa was about to scream, but Michael stopped her with words that sent a shiver down her spine.

"Never turn around", he hissed.

One minute later...

After a lot of struggling, screaming, and growling, Melissa was finally dead. Her head was bloody from all of the deep scratches Michael gave her. Her heart was eaten out, and her stomach was slashed open.

Michael looked down at his work. He sighed in pleasure and stumbled out his room.

His walked into the living room and looked at the broken necklace that laid on the ground.

He howled with laughter and ran out of the house and into the woods, and he never looked back.
