THE YEAR 1980

everyday felt like a repeat button.

that button being the snooze on his alarm clock. he'll get up, rub his eyes, then get ready to go to work just like every other adult in london.

his mornings mostly went along a routine list that looked something like this:

7:45- wake up and take a 5 minute shower

7:50- eat breakfast

8:00- leave

8:30- work and hate life

4:30- go home, do your homeschool work, then die alone

donghyuck stood up from his bed and made his way to the bathroom. he got in the shower, humming an 80s tune to himself as he tried to quickly clean everything on his body.

the world donghyuck lived in was amazing. he just hasn't realized that yet. what he isn't understanding is that everything around him would soon be gone after a strange night. but we shouldn't get into that so soon...

he quickly dried his hair with a towel and threw on work clothes. it was a simple outfit that consisted of a retro polo that had purple and yellow checkers on them. and his pants were just some clean, black, jean trousers. to finish off his work look, he put on a headband that exposed his forehead. a few hairs from his bangs fell to the front making it look messier but he didn't mind.

he never really tried to impress the people in this town. he managed to get stares here and there but that's only because he looks so different from everyone else. it's not only the way he looks, it's the way he acts and sounds too. he's a peculiar boy in everyone else's eyes.

especially johnny, his older brother.

"donghyuckβ€”ah! get your arse down here. breakfast is done!" the 25 year old yelled to the other upstairs.

johnny has been the only person that has looked after donghyuck. they both grew up as foster kids and when johnny finally turned 18 he adopted the tan boy and bought this apartment with the money he saved up since he was a kid.

he poured orange juice in a cup and placed it beside the ham and cheese toasty he warmed up in the microwave.

"wow, you sure are a chef." the little brother said sarcastically as he slumped down the stairs.

"oh now don't even start sunny. picky eaters don't like to eat good food-"

"mambo mambo blah blah you're not good enough. i get it."

the tall boy turned around to glare at the boy who casually sat at the table. "don't make me wrestle you."

"i'd lose."

"exactly."

it's times like these when donghyuck realizes what's wrong in his life. no one responds in the way he wants people to respond. especially his brother. johnny is great at making him feel lesser than everyone else and that's because he never told him what he actually feels for the younger.

being the only parental figure is stressful, especially for johnny because he never had one sentimental moment in his life it seems.

"finish your food. you have to leave in 5 minutes." johnny ordered before grabbing his keys off the counter. "i'm going to probably crash at my friends house tonight so i won't be around during home school. just continue on your packets and make sure you do your reading."

"okay mum. don't get pregnant-"

the back door closed, and the room was quiet. life felt empty now.

the tan boy chewed on the soggy food and cringed to himself, and his life. he looks so pathetic right now.

he put the toasty back on the plate and decided to pour his glass of orange juice on top of it. "fuck you" he said, to no one in particularly.

who would listen to him?

-

the work shoes always make his heels ache. and the only source to solve his pain is to stand on his tippy toes. luckily, it isn't obvious because he was behind a counter. and behind him was a wall full of bowling shoes.

the room was noisy and you could hear laughter from so many rich kids and drunk adults. girls would wear their hair as either poofy or straight and the men managed to style themselves all different.

"what's your size sir?" he asked the man politely.

"twelves."

he hates his job. all he does is give people their bowling shoes. and then he says the price and they give him their money or they complain and he's just there, listening and dealing with people who don't deserve his presence.

"hey, you!"

donghyuck turned to see his coworker doing the same job but further down to the kid shoe sizes. it was a girl named sia.

"what's up?" he asked from afar.

"this kid wants to ask you a question!" she yelled back.

he looked at his line of people and apologized before running over to whatever this kid had to ask him.

he stood beside sia and looked over the counter to see a small little girl with no two front teeth. "yes?"

"are you a boy or a girl?" she asked with curiosity shown all over her face.

sia covered her mouth to cut off the chuckle that left her lips. but donghyuck couldn't help but feel suddenly offended by her words. his cheeks lit up in an uncomfortable embarrassment. "i'm a boy."

"but you are pretty." she said with doe eyes and glossy lids. "you are prettier then the queen."

"oh." haechan shyly chuckled. "thank you?"

"poppy! stay away from those strangers!" the child turned around quickly from hearing her name. and like that, she was gone.

"you hear that pretty boy?" sia said with a sly grin on her face. "you're prettier than the queen!"

donghyuck was still flushed but managed to keep a straight face. "do you think we're mates or something?" he asked the girl. sia frowned at this.

"uh- yeah?"

"what's my name?"

sia took his comment as a trivia game the second he asked the question. "oh! it starts with a d! wait no an h! well bollocks i don't really remember. it's an asian name! that's for sure!"

donghyuck walked away with a few words leaving past his mouth. "2 years, we've worked together sia..."

after that incident happened, donghyuck wasn't the same. all day he was blank faced, just tired and sick of seeing the same thing everyday. and it just kept repeating in his head.

i'm a pretty boy.
i'm prettier than the queen.
i look like a fucking girl.
i'm pretty.

he makes himself feel worse then everyone else. there is no good ever witnessed in his life. so why wouldn't he be depressed?

he hates saying the truth, but really the only thing keeping him alive on earth is fleetwood mac. when he feels sad he listens to their songs. he thinks they are like healers just forcing positivity in his brain. it's finally something to itch that annoying spot in his brain. the only sad part is that he has to wait till he gets home to jam out in his room.

so he kept hoping for something interesting to happen at work. but he's really just watching people have fun. his life sucks, it's too obvious.

what does me need to fulfill this empty feeling? what's the main problem in his life?

it's the planet.

he doesn't belong in his world.
