You go to tryouts, you do a decent job, you totally don't almost sprain your ankle while trying to block the ball, you totally don't take a water bottle that still has soap suds in it from when you rinsed it out earlier, and you pass.
You go up to the boy you wanted to impress.
And it went like...
"Atsumu! I joined the volleyball team!"
I was taken aback, to say the least. My smile faded, my excitement died down, and the small amount of confidence I had went poof.
There was a silence between us two. The hallway was quite lively, yet every single sound drowned out completely. He wasn't even looking at me, he was staring intently out the open window. I curiously advert my eyes to where he what he was staring at.
Before my eyes could spot what had his attention, I felt a hand place on my head.
"Congratulations on making the volleyball team. You were so much better than Tsumu when he first tried out. And even yesterday because he fell and hurt his knee." Osamu stated, he ruffed my hair.
"There you are, Samu! Where the hell have you been?!" Atsumu turned to his brother, a vein popping out of his head. I could tell that he was annoyed by Osamu's side comment.
So that's what got his attention.
Osamu gave Atsumu a blank stare and replied, "Unlike you, I actually care about my grades, so I did some extra credit work." Atsumu's eye twitches and passes another annoyed remark.
Osamu's presence alone lifted my spirit. I lightly laugh when the two started to bicker.
As soon as Osamu's hand leaves my head, I take Atsumu's place by the window. I lean my arms against the windowsill and stare at the cloudless sky. More curiosity overtook me and I try to spot what he was staring at.
And then I saw her.
But of course, he was looking at her. I should've known...
