prologue; stealing is fun
Of course, he didn't tell you what it was because it'd "ruin the surprise" but honestly, you didn't care about whatever he wanted to show you. All you wanted at this point was to grab something from the vending machine and head back to bed. "Why did we have to get it so late?" you whined, pulling your wrist away from his grasp to stop him from continuing.
"How else are we supposed to get it without getting caught?" he asked as he opened the front door. The sudden cold breeze made you hug yourself as the small bumps on your skin started to form. "I told you to bring a jacket y/n."
"Shut up," you murmured, pushing past him and stepping down the entrance steps. Denki followed behind. He'd turn around now and then to check if anybody had followed, but who in their right mind would?
You covered the corners of your eyes with your hands and pressed against the glass; the lights were on in some parts while others were off. Either someone just forgot about the rest of the school was being haunted. "Are any of the doors unlocked?" You asked, pulling yourself away to look at your partner in crime.
Who was struggling to open said doors. "Is there a back door?" he asked, finally giving up. You shrugged and walked to the back of the building, being the sneakiest you could. It didn't take long to figure out how to open it; with the handles being older than Aizawa and all. One step inside and everything felt like some messed up horror movie you'd only see online. It wasn't as cold as the outside so that was a big plus.
"Denki!" you yelled, "hurry your ass up! I wanna get back to the dorms in time!"
A few minutes and there he was, running up to you and grabbing into your wrists as he had done before. "We have to get it now, like right now."
"Why did you see someone?"
That was all you needed to let him drag you like a dumb mutt again, through the twists of the halls until you reached the teacher's lounge. Denki pulled out a small hairpin and started working on the lock. "Why couldn't you have used that before?" you asked, pointing your thumb back.
He huffed and looked at you as if you were crazy. "I only have one of these! If it'd break we'd never get in!"
You couldn't keep track of the many curses that slipped out of the boy. And the stubborn "no, I got this," he'd tell you before giving up.
"Just, let me," you told him, pushing him aside and letting yourself get to work on the lock. After a few more handful of failures, a soft clicking noise came from the door, and with a light push, it opened. Denki sat in awe of your little skill while you pulled out the loose change from your pajama bottoms. "Get the thing while I get my snack, I obviously earned it," you quipped, taking a small glance around the room before finding the machine.
It was a pretty average-sized room with a couch and table, littered with a few papers, wrappers, and a can of coffee. Denki found his way to the small couch, looking behind it to find a large box. "Y/n! I got it, let's go!" he groaned while picking it up.
"Alright, hold on..." You sighed, stuffing your bag of chips into your pocket. "What even is in that?"
"Something fun," he smiled, climbing off of the couch and letting the box rest in his arms.
You didn't bother to push it more and just decided to take his word for it. Denki's definition of fun always seemed to change, whether it was something super dumb or super pervy. "You gotta guide me this time."
The trip back wasn't nearly as good as it was leaving. Having almost ran into all might who was outside, leaning against the entrance door to the dorms, making you and Denki spend more time outside than expected. At least kaminari gave you his hoodie before you completely froze.
Once the old hero left it was go time; running as fast as you could to your room, not caring if your loud footsteps and Kamari's accidental box droppings woke anyone up.
He placed the box in the middle of your room while you sat on the bed, pulling out your snack and hoping to god the chips wouldn't be crushed. "So are you gonna show me what's in it or not?" You asked, shoving the potato chips into your mouth.
Denki nodded and pulled back the flaps to the box, pulling out a few cables and finally the machine.
A red wii and its five matching remotes.
"You had me risk my life for a wii?"
"Uh, yes!" he smiled brightly. "Now we can have bakusquad game nights!" You scoffed at the nickname your friend group had been given.
"Alright fine, but I get dibs on the black remote," you pointed over to it, liking how it was the only one that looked fully intact.
"Deal!" he tossed it, having it land by your pillow. The two of you spent a good while trying to figure out who would get the other remotes and texting the group about it.
Denki looked up from his phone and over to the gaming system. "Hey, y/n, you're keeping this in your room right?"
"I guess so." It wouldn't be too bad to keep it around, maybe play a few rounds of Mario cart when you couldn't sleep. Now the only worry you had would be about someone finding out about it.
Like that'd ever happen.
