Nevertheless, you always feel like something's missing in your life.
As a manager, it's a responsibility for you to go to every practice and game. Today during practice, most of the time, you were helping Yamaguchi with his serves and tossing balls to Suga so he could practice his sets. Yamaguchi is your favorite first year, wellโ besides your boyfriend.
In junior high, you played on your school's volleyball team and you were the ace. Nothing was better than that adrenaline feeling after you had gotten a kill.
In your third year of junior high, though, you got badly injured on your ankle during a tournament. After that, you decided to stop playing volleyball competitively. Once you entered high school, you became one of the managers for Karasuno's boys volleyball team, to support your brother, and to be able to associate with something you love deeply, volleyball.
Your somewhat cheerful personality made it easy to make friends and get along with everyone when you first joined as a manager, and you became best friends with Kiyoko, Tanaka, and Noya.
Kiyoko is an amazing friend to you, she's mature and caring. You can always ask her for advice and she'll always be there for you. It sucks how she's a year older than you, though.
Tanaka and Noya are crazyโ but in a good way. They will not hesitate to beat anyone up if they hurt you. They always make you laugh, no matter what.
Time during practice flew by really quickly. Right after practice ended, you ran up to your dark-haired boyfriend.
You and Kageyama have been dating for about two months, and you are completely, helplessly in love with him. Your friends always tell you that he isn't a good boyfriend to you, hell, even your own brother says that. But you're too oblivious to see that, considering how strong your feelings are for the boy.
"Hey! Do you wanna maybe hang out today or tomorrow? We didn't get the chance to for the past three weekends and I thoughtโ"
"Sorry, I'm going to practice my sets this weekend. Everything needs to be perfect so we can go to nationals this year," Kageyama said, cutting you off.
"Oh," Your heart sunk. "Well, you've been practicing every weekend nowadays, can't you just make time for me this weekend? Pretty please?" You asked, sweetly. "Besides, your sets are nearly perfect."
"They have to be exactly perfect. Not nearly perfect if we want to beat Seijoh and Shiritorizawa," He replied with an annoyed expression.
"Okay, I understand," You frowned. "I guess," You muttered under your breath as you walked away.
"Are you alright, Y/n? You seem upset," Kiyoko said. "Kageyama being a bad boyfriend again?"
"I meanโ yes, but not entirely. I got a 64% on that big exam I told you about! The world hates me," You cried as you buried your face in your hands.
"It's totally rigged," Tanaka jumped in. "I cheated off of Noya and I still got a 52%."
"That's because I got a 52%, dummy," Nishinoya rolled his eyes. You giggled.
"You guys shouldn't even be cheating off of each other in the first place!" Kiyoko scolded.
You saw Daichi signaling for you guys to leave by the gym doors. "I gotta go guys, See you later!" you waved goodbye.
Soon later, you got into Daichi's car, singing along to the music as you rode home. "Daichi, your receives and hits have been getting better by the day! I'm so proud of my big brother!" You exclaimed.
"Thanks, Y/n!" He chuckled while making a left turn.
He pulled up to your house, and after you entered, you walked upstairs to your room.
Gosh, I have a lot of homework to do.
You got started with it, but for some reason, you suddenly thought about Oikawa and the study dates that you used to have with him.
โUgh. I literally don't understand this problem!" You exclaimed as you buried your face in a pillow.
"It's really not that hard, Y/n. You're over exaggerating," Oikawa laughed while rolling his eyes. "You just multiply it by that number, square it, and then you're done!"
"Huh? I'm actually the dumbest person in the world. Anyways, thank you, Tooru!" You said as you started laughing with him.
He pulled you into a quick kiss and smiled. "Anything for you, Y/n."
You sighed. You know you shouldn't, but you really miss him.
It was finally time for the practice match against Aoba Johsai. The boys were extremely excited about it, well, specifically Hinata. He was practically jumping for joy.
"We get to play against the great king! I'm so pumped!" Hinata excitedly exclaimed. You and Kiyoko laughed while covering your mouths, trying to keep it in. You were a little nervous, since you haven't seen Oikawa since your breakup a little more than three months ago.
"Oh, shut up, Hinata," Tsukishima and Kageyama said in unison.
"I agree with Hinata! It's a good way to practice before the playoffs!" Suga cut in while patting Hinata on the back.
"You'll do great, babe!" You told Kageyama as you intertwined your fingers with his.
It's been a while since I've held his hand, you thought to yourself.
You both entered the building, and Kageyama let go of your hand, getting ready to warm up. "Wait, Tobio! Are you free tomorrow?" You asked him.
"No, sorry, I have family plans!" He replied. You nodded your head and walked towards the bench.
You and Kiyoko sat down, taking notes. Yachi threw balls to the boys for the warmup. "What is wrong with him?" Kiyoko asked. You shrugged.
You spotted Oikawa, so you watched him warmup. His beautiful brown hair was bouncing up and down as he set the balls perfectly for his teammates. The biggest thing you remember about him while you were dating was that he devoted his whole life to volleyball. You noticed that he was wearing a knee brace as well.
He caught you staring at him and gave you a small wave while smiling. You rolled your eyes and looked away.
"Hello? Earth to Y/n?" Kiyoko said, waving her hands in front of your face.
"Oh shit, sorry. I was just... taking some notes."
"Hmm," Kiyoko questioned. "Or were you watching the other team's captain?"
"As a matter of fact, yes, to take notes!" You responded.
Kiyoko took the clipboard out of your hands. "There's nothing written! You were staring at your ex because you miss him!" She exclaimed.
"That is not true, at all," You rolled your eyes. "The game's about to start, sh!"
Karasuno ended up winning. The score was 25-22, 18-25, and 29-27.
"You did so good! I told you!" You smiled at Kageyama.
"Okay,โ Kageyama said with no emotion.
"Don't worry about him, Y/n, Kageyama is always a diโ" Tanaka assured you, interrupted by Coach Ukai. Kageyama shot him a dirty look, most likely because he figured out what Tanaka was about to say.
"Great job guys! You did very well today," Coach Ukai told them. "Don't forget, we have practice tomorrow!" The boys all nodded their heads.
"Tanaka, I'm really fine... he'll come around. Hopefully," You whispered to him.
"He better come around soon or he's gonna catch these hands," He replied.
You chuckled. "What would I do without you Tanaka?"
Everyone left in a few minutes. The only people in the gym were you, a couple boys from Seijoh, and Daichi.
"Hey beautiful," Oikawa came up to you. "You look sad," He said. "I heard you're dating Kageyama now, is that right?"
You stood there, not wanting to reply. You absolutely despise him.
THREE MONTHS AGO
You and Oikawa have been official for four months, but you haven't told anyone except for Daichi. You thought it'd be best to keep it to yourselves since your schools are rivals.
You flinched when you heard your phone ding.
oikawa tooru
hey y/n, can we hang
today?
sawamura y/n
sure, i'm always down
oikawa tooru
okay, boba at 7?
sawamura y/n
see you there! :)
You went to the boba place, and saw him sitting at our usual table in the corner. He was wearing a hoodie and shorts, along with his glasses.
He looks so adorable with his glasses on.
His hair was also messy, as if he had just woken up from a nap.
"Y/n!" He slightly smiled, waving at you.
"Hi Tooru! I've missed you so much." This was the first time you had seen him this week, and it was a Saturday. He had been practicing his jump serve and sets non-stop.
He fidgeted with the strings of his hoodie a little bit before looking deep into your eyes for a moment.
Something felt wrong.
He finally broke the silence and told you, "I don't think this is working out, Y/n. I think we should stop seeing each other."
Your stomach dropped. "Oh." You said as you rushed out of there, shocked. You ran to your car, quickly getting in before you slammed your car door out of anger and sadness. You buried your face in your hands as you started to slightly tear up.
Shit, was he just playing with my feelings this whole time for fun? Of course he would do this, he's Oikawa Tooru. He has all the fangirls, the good looks, I should've known he would break my heart from the start. I'm so naive.
His voice echoed in your head. "I think we should stop seeing each other, Y/n."
And just in a few moments, your heart shattered into a million pieces.
