———— 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗨𝗡 𝗣𝗘𝗘𝗞𝗦 𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗚𝗛 the curtains of nowhere.
The breeze that accompanies the beams flips through pages of a magazine with a flutter.
A hand stirs a cup of coffee, the clanking of the tiny metal spoon against the inside of the cup dinging softly. The ice churns with the rythm of the spoon, a small whirlpool coming to be in the centre of the hazel.
She waits patiently for something to happen. She remembers this place vividly, but not so much the people.
❝ i'm sorry, for not remembering you.❞
The boy who sits in a chair at the other side of the room looks up from his shoes. He shrivels into himself, stuffing his hands in his puffy jacket pockets.
❝ it's alright, ❞
He shrugs his shoulders, tilting his head to the side in a slightly sluggish manner.
❝ is it really? how long have you been putting up with this routine? ❞
She asks him, staring blankly at her cup of coffee and the fluttering pages of the kinfolk magazine. She waits for his response, patient as he searches for an answer that will effortlessly give her a sense of closure.
But unfortunately, he can't find one.
❝ twenty six lifetimes. hundreds of years, maybe thousands. i don't know, i've stopped counting. ❞
He shakes his head and she furrows her eyebrows. She isn't sure what to say next; she doesn't want to seem rude or invasive as courtesy of her confusion, her slight fear.
In her first life— or, at least the first life she can remember —she thought once she died she would just... die. Dead. Still, cold, six feet under ground type of dead.
Instead, she is brought here. A white room with a window that leads to nowhere yet the sun gleams in from somewhere. Fresh winds; a lone cup of coffee with a kinfolk magazine, two chairs and a camera.
Then he arrived not too long after.
He explained to her what this room is, why they're here, how long they're going to be here and what happens once they leave this Waiting room.
This is the twenty sixth time they've been here now; waiting patiently to be taken to their next lives.
To their next lives where they both have no recollection of each other. Yet somehow, they've managed to find each other twenty six times.
And once they die, they depart from one another for just a moment. Then, back here, the Waiting room; where they both wait for their next lives to begin.
The cycle will repeat itself; just like the first twenty six times. In a different place, time, date, year— somehow, they will find each other, as soulmates do.
They will find each other, love each other, in this lifetime and the next.
