[1] WHO ARE YOU?

The night was chilly and lonely, the streets of the community seemingly deserted. It made sense, after all, who would be out and about at 2 AM.

Suna Rintarou thatโ€™s who. Said boy had his shivering hands stuffed in the pockets of his jacket and his head hung low as he idly kicked a small rock along the paved road.

He didnโ€™t know where he was going, and truthfully he didnโ€™t care. He just knew he had to get out of that house for the night. And so he did. Though looking at it now he probably shouldโ€™ve taken something else with him besides his jacket. Some money, or his phone at least.

Now he was cold, hungry and in desperate need of a distraction from the shitshow that had gone down with his parents.

He cursed lowly to himself as he kicked the rock particularly hard that time. Just the thought of them made him angry.

How could the people that were supposed to love him and want the best for him ever say such cruel things?

He knew his dream was far fetched, especially since in a country where there were so many talented prodigies, a regular guy like himself was nothing special. It would be hell for him to achieve his goal and become a pro volleyball player.

He knew that. He knew heโ€™d have to put in work and he knew there was a chance it would be for nothing. But he still believed in himself.

He just assumed his parents would have too.

โ€™Well no use thinking about it now I suppose,โ€ He said dejectedly as he continued walking.

The only sound he could hear was his own ragged breaths and the crunch of gravel under his boots. The usually dark street was illuminated by the unusually bright moon. Even in his dejected state, Suna could still admit it was breathtaking.

โ€˜It was too badโ€™ he thought to himself โ€ฒThat such a thing had to happen on such a beautiful night.โ€ฒ

He continued walking until he reached the nearby park; immediately going over to the old swing set. His shivering fingers gripped the ice-cold metal so hard his knuckles paled until they looked white.

A strangled sob left his lips, then another and before he knew it he as crying. Hot tears rolled down his cheeks as his lungs burned trying to intake air.

He hated it. This suffocating sensation of never being enough to please his parents. This feeling of desperation as he tried to make them proud.

The toxic thoughts only served to make him even more irritable till he finally burst out the swing angrily kicking anyway another pebble.

โ€œOW- What the fuck?!โ€

In the midst of his grief, his eyebrow quirked in confusion as he wondered where the voice was coming from. He almost laughed at the realization that his mind mustโ€™ve been playing tricks on him. Who else would be out here at this time?

โ€œThe hell did that come from??โ€ The feminine sounding voice echoed again. Now he confirmed it was in fact not a hallucination; which only confused him even more.

Out of curiosity, he walked towards the sound, noticing it seemed to come from the giant slide house in the centre of the park.

He walked up from behind, noticing the pair of dirty sneakers sticking out from at the edge of one of the slides.

โ€œOi!โ€ He called out.

The feet jerked in alarm and before they could draw back Suna had grabbed the personโ€™s ankles and harshly dragged them down the slide.

His eyes widened as he came face to face with a glaring girl, wrapped in a thick (f/c) jacket with a lighter in one hand and an empty rolling paper in the other.

Before he could utter a word, the girl had sprung up and punched him in the gut.

โ€œWhat the fuck is wrong with you!โ€ she yelled not giving him a chance to respond as she gripped his collar and slammed him into the slide.

โ€œAnd who are you?โ€ she hissed as she towered over him with her foot hovering directly over his crotch.

โ€œIf you value your dick you better tell me right now.โ€

Sunaโ€™s temporary state of shock wore off as he rammed his foot into the single-leg she was standing on and sent her tumbling off him. He adjusted his clothes before peering over at the girl who was still on the ground.

โ€œWho are you?โ€

Her eyes narrowed. โ€œWho are you? I asked you first.โ€

โ€œOk? I asked you second.โ€

She clicked her teeth.โ€ You know what I donโ€™t care. Just go away.โ€

She dusted off her jeans and fixed her hoodie. She frowned as she looked at the paper. โ€œYou ruined my blunt, you ass,โ€ she growled at him

He rolled his eyes. Of course, it had to be a stoner.

โ€œYou can have mine,โ€ he said dismissively, reaching into his pocket to pull out a small bag of marijuana. Immediately her eyes lit up and she whistled lowly.

โ€œDamn you must really be going through it. Who gives away weed?โ€

She snatched the bag up nonetheless taking a quick sniff of it before nodding her head in satisfaction.

โ€œNot in the mood to use it anymore I guess.โ€

โ€œWell, now I feel bad. Tell you what, in exchange for โ€˜kindnessโ€™, Iโ€™ll let you rant for as long as you need to while I pretend to listen.โ€ She flashed him a quick smile as she climbed back into the toy house.

Suna shamelessly stared at her body as she did. He had to admit she wasnโ€™t half bad looking. The girl seemed to notice because when she sat down she gave him a sultry smile as she looked down at him with a lustful glint in her eye.

The tension between them was thick as she continued to make her blunt, Sunaโ€™s piercing green eyes never left her.

โ€œWell, are you gonna come up here or not? If you are, then please stop looking at me like that unless you plan to rail me.โ€ She gave him a once over as she licked the rolling paper to finish it.

โ€œIโ€™m horny when Iโ€™m high. I might jump you.โ€

โ€œAre you stupid? You donโ€™t even know if Iโ€™m dangerous or not.โ€

She looked at him smiling. โ€œIโ€™m outside by myself at 3 AM on a playground getting high. Do I look like someone who cares about danger?โ€

โ€œClearly not.โ€ he sighed as he leaned against the slide, staring up at the moon again.

โ€œAnd what about you? Shouldnโ€™t you be at home in bed if youโ€™re so worried about things that go bump in the night?โ€

โ€œUnless..you donโ€™t have somewhere to go?โ€

Suna ignored her once more, instead, allowing himself to get lost in the familiar scent as she blew smoke towards him after taking a hit.

โ€œThereโ€™s nothing to be embarrassed about. I kinda already figured it out. Itโ€™s 3 in the morning for fuckโ€™s sake. The only people out at this time are drunks, whores and delinquents like me and you.โ€

" I didnโ€™t run away if thatโ€™s what youโ€™re thinking. And Iโ€™m not a delinquentโ€ he finally responded

โ€œNot yet. Well regardless-โ€ she grinned childishly. โ€œ-thereโ€™s more than enough space here in my humble abode.โ€ She gestured around yellow plastic walls.

โ€œPerfect for a delinquents and non-delinquents alike.โ€

Suna took a minute to debate whether or not he was really going to do something this stupid.

The answer is yes. Yes, he was.

He climbed up the same way she had and sat beside her being surprised at how spacious the slide house actually was. Well, width-wise away. The girl behind him giggled in amusement as she watched how he had to hunch over because of how low the top was.

โ€œYou okay there big guy?โ€

โ€œShut up.โ€

Within 20 minutes, both teenagers were beyond faded. For the first time since he left his house, Suna found himself smiling as he stared down at the girl who had made herself comfortable on his lap. She caught him staring and smiled back before blowing a puff of smoke into his face. He remained unphased as one of his hands came up to play with a bit of her hair.

โ€œYou know youโ€™re actually kind of pretty when youโ€™re not threatening to stomp my balls.โ€

โ€œI get that a lot.โ€
