moony's daughter | a neville longbottom fanfiction

After Halloween night, classes seemingly continued as normal but more students seemed to travel in packs which they did just in case they ran into another dangerous beast in the castle. Though the professors had assured everyone that the troll was taken care of, some students didn't believe them.

A rumor had gone around that Harry, Ron, and Hermione had defeated the troll which was a rumor that Eloise thought was a bit farfetched as they were only first years and they surely couldn't have defeated a giant troll. But as she thought about the rumor more, the more it made sense. Eloise hadn't even thought about going to get Hermione she just immediately went into flight mode and followed Percy all the way to the dorms. She also hadn't seen Harry or Ron in the common room after everyone had seemingly entered safely into the dorms.

"How did the troll even get in in the first place?" Eloise asked Neville who sat next to her in the great hall. It was breakfast and many people filled the great hall, filling their stomachs before rushing off to their first classes of the day.

Dean and Seamus were sitting a bit farther down from them, reading the Daily Prophet. "I mean, how horrible is this school's security that a whole mountain troll can get into the castle?" Eloise asked again before taking a bite of a buttered croissant.

"I dunno, all I care about is that it's gone." Neville said, a nervous tone in his voice.

As they entered November, the weather turned even colder and that also meant that it was Quidditch season. Eloise had heard from Fred Weasley that Harry had made it onto the team even though he was a first year and you couldn't actually try to get a spot on the team until you were a second year. At this time of year, there was always a layer of frost on the grass and everyday was gray and cloudy. It was maybe Eloise's least favorite season, she prefered to warm sun and clear skies over the cold air and dark clouds.

The morning of the first quidditch game of the season was very energetic. The smell of fried sausages and sweet berries seeped out of the great hall as students excitedly ate their breakfast. Even if their house wasn't playing, everyone was happy to see what would happen.

This season, the Gryffindors would play against the Slytherins which was sure to be a heated game as the two houses had the most drama and problems with each other.

"Harry, you've got to eat something." Hermione insisted.

"I'm don't want anything."

"Just a bit of toast, you'll need it." Hermione continued.

"I'm not hungry."

"Harry, you need your strength," Seamus said, "Seekers are always the ones who get clobbered by the other team."

"He's right," Eloise mentioned, leaning over towards Harry. "It's your first game, it's important you have something before it."

"Thanks," said Harry as Seamus poured ketchup on a large amount of sausages he had placed on his plate.

By eleven o'clock, the whole school was prepared for the match. Ron and Hermione had joined Eloise, Neville, Dean, and Seamus at the top row of the Gryffindor stands. Many students carried binoculars and signs. Dean, Neville, Eloise, and Seamus had painted a large banner that said Potter For President that stretched the span of about five students. Dean had drawn a large lion under the text and Hermione had charmed the banner so that the paint would flash different colors.

"Have you ever been to a Quidditch match before?" Seamus asked Eloise who held up a pair of binoculars, looking out onto the field as the Slytherin and Gryffindor players flooded the field. "I haven't actually but, Dad's told me a bit about it," Eloise responded, putting her binoculars down in her lap.

"I think you'll like it. I love quidditch but I don't think I could ever play," Seamus responded. Eloise shrugged her shoulders as the Slytherins and Gryffindors rose into the air on their brooms. "Oh look, there's Harry!" Eloise exclaimed, pointing to Harry who was looking around at the crowd. The Gryffindors held up the Potter For President banner and cheered as Harry shot them all a smile.

Suddenly, Madam Hooch who was the referee for the game blew a loud whistle and the game was on.

"And the Quaffle is immediately taken by Angelina Johnson of Gryffindor- what an excellent Chaser that girl is, and rather attractive too-" Lee Jordan commentated loudly to the school. "JORDAN!" Professor McGonagall could be heard a bit quieter than Lee. "Sorry, professor."

Lee Jordan was a good friend of the Weasley twins and was the commentator for the Quidditch games. Eloise hadn't had many interactions with Lee but when she did, he was always very friendly and could always figure out a way to make her laugh.

"And she's really belting along up there, a neat pass to Alica Spinnet, a good find of Oliver Wood's last year only a reserve- back to Johnson and - no, the Slytherins have taken the Quaffle, Slytherin Captain Marcus Flint gains the Quaffle and off he goes - Flint flying like an eagle up there - he's going to sc - no, stopped by an excellent move by Gryffindor Keeper Wood and the Gryffindors take the Quaffle," The students in the Gryffindor stands cheered.

"That's chaser Katie Bell of Gryffindor there, nice dive around Flint, off up the field and - OUCH" Eloise winced as a Bludger hit Katie in the back of the head, knocking her off of her broom and onto the field below. "That must have hurt, hit in the back of the head by a Bludger - Quaffle taken by the Slytherins - that's Adrian Pucey speeding off towards the goalposts, but he's blocked by a second Bludger - sent his way by Fred or George Weasley, can't tell which- nice play by the Gryffindor Beater, anyway, and Johnson back in possession of the Quaffle, a clear field ahead and off she goes - she's really flying - dodges a speeding Bludger - the goalposts are ahead - come on, now, Angelina - Keeper Bletchly dives - misses - GRYFFINDORS SCORE!"

Cheers from the Gryffindors filled the chilled air, the Slytherins booing and groaning at the loss.

As the game continued, Eloise moved her eyes around the field to try to find Harry who was gliding over the game, keeping a keen eye out for the Snitch, which when caught, would give the Keeper's team 100 points and ending the game. Eloise winced again as one of the Bludgers came barreling towards Harry before he dodged it and Fred Weasley chased after it.

"Slytherin in possession," Lee Jordan was saying, "Chaser Pucey ducks two Bludgers, two Weasleys, and Chaser Bell, and speeds toward the - wait a moment - was that the Snitch?" Eloise glanced around the field to find the small flash of gold fly past Adrian Pucey's left ear. Harry dashed towards it but the Slytherin Seeker Terrence Higgs had spotted it as well. The two boys hurtled towards the Snitch, neck, and neck.

Harry was a bit faster than Higgs was and sped farther ahead of the Slytherin Chaser, Harry reached out to grab the snitch before a loud WHAM! came from the field. The Gryffindors booed as Marcus Flint had blocked Harry on purpose and knocked him off of his course.

"Foul!" screamed the Gryffindors, Eloise included. Eloise watched as the match was paused, Madam Hooch speaking angrily to Flint and then ordering a free shot at the goalposts for Gryffindor.

"Send him off ref! Red card!" Dean shouted furiously. Ron, Eloise, and Neville looked at Dean confusingly. "What are you talking about Dean?" Ron spoke up.

"Red card! In soccer, you get shown the red card and you're out of the game!" said Dean intensely. "But, this isn't soccer, Dean," Eloise reminded her friend. However, Hagrid who had joined the Gryffindors in the stands agreed with Dean. "They oughta change the rules. Flint coulda knocked Harry outta the air!"

As the game continued, Lee Jordan found it difficult to not take sides as Lee was a Gryffindor. "So - after that obvious and disgusting bit of cheating-" McGonagall seemed to growl something at Lee before he changed his words to, " I mean, after that open and revolting foul-" "Jordan, I'm warning you-" "All right, all right. Flint nearly kills the Gryffindor Seeker, which could happen to anyone, I'm sure, so a penalty to Gryffindor, taken by Spinnet, who puts it away, no trouble, and we continue to play, Gryffindor still in possession."

Suddenly as Harry dodged another Bludger that his broomstick did a frightening lurch. Harry looked as if he was about to fall off but he gripped onto the broom tightly. Harry tried to fly towards the Gryffindor goalposts but the broomstick seemed to be completely out of his control. The broom seemed to be trying to buck him off, zigzagging Harry around the field and the stands, making violent swishing movements that caused Harry to almost fall off of his broom. Eloise gasped and pointed to Harry as Lee continued commentating, calling Neville and Seamus' attention to the boy.

"What the bloody hell is he doing?" Seamus asked following where Eloise pointed. "I dunno, I don't think he's meaning to do it though, he was an excellent flyer the last time I saw him on a broom!" Eloise responded. As Eloise continued to look at Harry through her binoculars, the Slytherins had scored though, a Bludger had hit Marcus Flint and broken his nose.

"Dunno what Harry think's he's doing," Hagrid mumbled from behind the students. " If I didn' know any better, I'd say he'd lost control of his broom... but he can't have..." Suddenly, everyone now had seen what was happening to Harry. His broom had started to roll over and over, Harry only just barely holding on. Eloise gasped and leaned over the stands, watching Harry intently as his broom suddenly jerked itself and Harry swung off of it, he was only dangling from the broom now, holding as tightly as he could with one hand.

"Did something happen to it when Flint blocked him?" Seamus whispered. "It can't be Seamus, nothing can interfere with a broomstick from doing what it's supposed to do except for dark magic," Eloise said matter-of-factly. Hermione snagged the binoculars that Hagrid was holding to get a better look at Harry.

"I knew it," Hermione gasped, turning to Ron to whisper something in his ear before she ran out of the stands. Eloise looked questioningly at Hermione before turning back to the game where George and Fred Weasley were trying to help Harry safely onto one of their brooms but nothing was working. The twins dropped lower than Harry just in case he fell, preparing to catch him if needed.

Marcus Flint had grabbed the Quaffle without anybody noticing and scored multiple times as everyone's attention was focused on Harry. Suddenly, the broom stopped jerking itself around and Harry was able to pull himself back onto his broom.

"Neville you can look now," Eloise said turning to Neville who had been nervously sobbing into the side of Hagrid's jacket. Neville awkwardly stood back next to Eloise, wiping his eyes with his hands. She patted him on the back a couple of times before turning her attention back to the field.

Harry had dove toward the ground when everyone saw the boy clap a hand over his mouth as though he was going to be sick. "I can't watch this," Neville muttered, covering his eyes with his hands and leaning into Eloise's shoulder. Harry hit the field on all fours, coughed, and something gold fell into his hand.

"I've got the Snitch!" Harry shouted, the crowd watching in confusion.

"He didn't catch it, he nearly swallowed it!" One of the Slytherin Quidditch players howled but it made no difference. Harry hadn't done anything that was against the rules and Lee Jordan excitedly shouted the results of the match - Gryffindor had won by one hundred and seventy points to sixty. Eloise jumped excitedly up and down as Dean screamed excitedly meeting the same energy as the girl next to him. Neville had uncovered his eyes and was now smiling at the win.
