Part 9 - Three
I wake up, feeling way too hot. I kick the blankets off of myself and sniff the air. I just barely smell food. I sit up and see Theo eating in the corner. I rub my eyes and yawn. "What are you eating?"
"Keeho brought breakfast," he says without looking at me. "It's soup again," he nods. I get up slowly and walk to the bowl on the dresser. I grab it and sit down. I don't use a spoon, I just slowly sip on it.
"Okay," I look at him, he's looking at his phone while he eats. "Thank you for giving me the blanket, did you sleep okay?" I study his face, it looks like he didn't sleep.
"Yeah I slept fine," he looks at me, then back to his phone.
"Cool," I sip more. "How are you feeling?"
"Meh," he shrugs. "Better than yesterday I guess," he says quietly.
"I still feel really sick," I whisper and hold the warm bowl in my hands. "I hope it goes away soon."
"Yeah me too," Theo says. "So I can get away from your snoring." I put my hand over my mouth.
"I snore?" I shut my eyes.
"Yeah," he says and I open my eyes. I watch him set his empty bowl down on the tray. I look at my bowl and take a big sip, the soup is lukewarm.
"I didn't even realize I did that," I laugh a bit and take another sip, finishing the soup. I set the bowl down. "I have to use the restroom," I stretch as I stand. I walk to the bathroom and shut the door. "Um," I call to him. "Can you make noise so you don't hear me pee?"
"Just pee," he says.
"I can't if you're listening!" I tap my foot. "Please?"
"Fine," I hear him start to hum loudly. I smile and sit down on the toilet.
I tap the wall, waiting for Rose to tap back. I look at Jiung. "What if she's dead?" I ask him, anxiety filling my body. I tap harder. This is the first time Rose and I have been without each other like this. I tap even harder.
"I'm sure she's fine," Jiung opens his computer, and goes to Disney plus. He hits play on Toy Story. "Come watch," he says with a smile.
"I can't," I whisper and sniffle. "I need to know she's okay."
"Okay," Jiung turns off the movie, taps around on his computer, then I hear soft piano music. "Just relax, she's okay. She's with Theo."
"That doesn't make me feel better," I shake my head and take a deep breath. "You're right, she's probably fine." I say slowly. I lay back on the bed and move over. "You can come lay down too, I'm sure the floor sucked to lay on."
"Are you sure?" He asks.
"Yes," I nod and roll over, facing the wall. I shut my eyes, counting my breaths. Trying to calm down. I'm sure she's okay, I'm sure of it. I feel Jiung lay down, and I exhale a deep breath. I curl up under the covers, and let my body relax. My eyes grow heavy, my mind goes blank.
I wash my hands and look at my face in the mirror. I look like a zombie. I dry off my hands and walk out, he's still humming, and plugging his ears. He sees him and stops, dropping his hands. "Thank you," I smile.
"Mhm," he gets up from the floor and grabs the tray. He walks outside and sets them down. I see him pause. "That's weird," he walks over to Makayla and Jiungs room.
"Theo we can't go out..." I groan and follow after him. I look down and see their soup is still on the ground. I furrow my brows. Theo opens the door and looks in, I hear him chuckle. "What? I can't see!" I stand on my tiptoes behind him and see Makayla and Jiung cuddling. I smile, then feel something in the back of my throat. I sneeze right by Theos ear. He ducks his head to the side.
"Whoa," he looks at me with disgust. "Back away please." I hold my hands up and move away from him. He shuts the door to their room and goes back to ours. I follow behind him. I shut the door. I walk over to the bed and sit down, I look at my turned off phone. I grab it and turn it on. "Why did you turn it off any way?" Theo asks sitting back on the ground.
"Uh," I shift. "It's broken remember?"
"I literally watched you turn it off yesterday, Keeho might think it's broken but I know it's not," he sniffles.
"Oh," I watch my phone light up, then the messages come flooding in. "Spam calls were annoying me," I lie and watch over 100 messages from the unknown number come in, then a few from Keeho and a few from Makayla. I set my phone down and look at Theo. He's just staring at me.
"You suck at lying," he looks down at his phone.
"You suck at lying," I mimic him and stick out my tongue. I lay back on the bed and shut my eyes. "If I take a nap will it mess up my sleep schedule?" I ask him. He doesn't say anything. I roll my eyes and cover myself in the blankets, rolling on my side. I shut my eyes and get comfortable, happily starting to fall asleep.
I hear her start to snore. I raise my eyebrows. She's a fast sleeper. I stand up and pile another blanket onto her. I step back and go to return to my spot on the floor, when I hear her mutter. I turn back and listen to what she's saying.
"No," she nutters. "Please stop I said no," her voice is growing loud. I stand there frozen not sure what to do. She's having a nightmare. I look around for something to wake her up with. I grab my pillow from the floor and go to throw it at her when she shoots up gasping for air, tears going down her face. I quickly drop the pillow. She stares at me, I stare at her. I see her phone light up, she sees it too. She grabs it and throws it across the room, I duck so it doesn't hit me. I walk over to her phone to make sure it's not cracked, it's not. I feel my stomach churn, I really don't feel good. I set her phone on the dresser, coughing. I cough harder and suck in a sharp breath. Rose is wiping her eyes. "I'm sorry," she whispers. I don't say anything. I turn and walk out of the room. I go to the kitchen and grab a cup, I grab milk and fill it up.
"Theo you aren't supposed to be out of that room.." I hear Intak say from behind me. I turn to him, and give a smile.
"Milk soothes the soul," I whisper and turn back cringing at myself. I take the cup of milk and put it in the microwave for 15 seconds. After it's done, I walk past Intak and go back to the room. I shut the door and sit by her on the bed. I hand her the warm milk, then open my laptop and play Monsters Inc.
"Theo," she whispers.
"Drink the milk," I say and turn up the volume on the computer. I slide back down to the floor. I hear her take small sips, and I smile a bit, then shake off the smile.
"Okay," I hear her say after a second, and watch her hand set the cup on the night stand.
"Whatever you were dreaming about can't hurt you," I say to her softly. "You're safe I promise." I hear her shift.
"Thank you," she says quietly. I look over at her watching the movie. Her eyes are full of pain and tiredness. I look to my phone and stand up. I walk to the pillow on the floor and lay down. I turn over. I feel something hit my back, I move my hand. A blanket. "You need warmth too," she says quietly. "You're also sick." I put the blanket over myself and turn my back to her. I open my phone and go to Instagram. I hear her laugh at the movie, and I exhale a breath I didn't know I was holding.
