Heartbreak

"Hermione" A dreamily voice said.

"Mhm, Ron, is that you?" She said with obvious confusion in her voice.

"No Hermione, come on wake up!" The voice said.

Something hit her. She woke up instantly to the blinding light penetrating through her Hogwarts dorm room.

"Ahh," She yelled looking up, "Ginny what the hell was that for?" She said as Ginny grinned ear to ear holding a pillow.

"Hermione it's been a week since the first day of classes, Breakfast has already begun. Come one." She said exaggerating the last part to her into a panic,"Oh, and also, you got a letter. It's from Ron. I can tell because of his horrible handwriting." She chuckled slightly handing Hermione the sealed letter.

No doubt about it, it was Ron's handwriting. Her name was written across the back. She looked down excitedly. She bite her lip and started to open the letter, but her smile slowly faded after she started to read it. Tears started slowly then into a stream cascading down her face.

"What?" Ginny asked concerned

Hermione shakily handed Ginny the letter. Hermione's tears blotched the paper making the ink bleed.

Dear Hermione,

I don't know if I can do this anymore. I mean I tried, I really did, but I have fallen in love with someone else. I'm sorry Hermione, but I'm breaking up with you. You just so boring now. You don't put any effort into the way you present yourself anymore, and now all you want to do is read when I get home. I'm sorry.

Ron

Ginny's face turned the shade of her hair. Fire embedded in her eyes as that letter, the one that brought Hermione so much joy just two minutes ago, was set into fiery embers, at the hand of Ginny. The ash fell to the hard-wood, which was then put out but the cold exhaust from the room. Ginny looked up at Hermione sunken face. The shell of her body sat motionless in front of her. Her lips and skin were pale, and her eyes were bloodshot.

"Come on, there are better people out there besides my brother. Even Draco Malfoy would be a better replacement." She said with a slight chuckle.

Through Hermione's tear she laughed slightly. Wiping away the last bit of them.

"Yea, I guess so." She said shakily, "I mean he is pretty hot now, but no, never, I will never be a Malfoy."

"Yea he is though, you can't lie." She laughed, looking at a slightly shocked Hermione, "I swear Harry is the only guy I see." She said holding her hands up in surrender, marking her smile a tad bit.

"I'm going to get ready." She said sniffling

"Yea, Okay. You go do that." Ginny said looking at her sad friend.

Hermione got up and went to the bathroom. He eyes were puffy and red, but thankfully had swollen down by the time she washed her face. She curled her hair into her signature tendrils, and pinned back the last bit of her bangs into a bobby pin. She added some light makeup to her eyes and cheeks to give them a bit of light color. Once she was done, she threw on the nicest of all her school uniforms and walked out of her dorm and to the great hall. She sat down with Ginny and Luna once she got there, keeping her head down, so no one could see her bloodshot eyes. Ginny looked up from her large stack of pancakes.

"Hey, how are you feeling?" She asked

"Fine." She said angrily gritting her teeth.

Ginny looked over to Luna worryingly, then at Hermione. "Bloody hell" she mouthed to Hermione. "What?" She mouthed back. She pointed behind her over to the Hufflepuff table. There sat Ron and Lavender snogging, practically down each other's throats.

"I think I'm going crazy." Luna said sarcastically

Hermione froze at the sight. "What was Ron doing at Hogwarts? And was snogging Lavender?" She thought. Her suspicions overwhelmed her. She couldn't take anymore. She yelled in frustration, causing everyone to stare directly at her.

"What the hell Ronald Weasley!" She yelled from across the room. She marched over to him with her wand in her hand, "You broke up with me for that five year old flower bitch!" She yelled. Ron immediately noticed the wand in her hand got up and ran.

To everyone's surprise, Proffesor McGonagall, who would usually do everything in her power to avoid conflict such as this, was laughing hysterically. And between her breaths she told the other professors to not get involved.

"Ronald got what was coming to him, a little sooner then expected, but he got it." She said heavily. Everyone in the great hall watched in horror as there beloved Hermione and proffesor, were now going off the rails berserk.

Hermione dashed down the hall after Ron. Shooting spells at him left and right, while he dodged them only slightly, to Hermione dismay. Lavender was yelling behind Hermione trying to catch up to Ron.

"Won-Won dear, please don't run from me!" She said

"Love., this wouldn't be the best time to stop, Hermione is going to kill me if I do!" He yelled back

Hermione sensing he presence behind her, pushed her back with a powerful blow to her face. She fell Back wards almost losing her breath. She looked up at Hermione. A smirk tugged at her lips.

"Ow, What was that for!" She squealed sarcastically, "You know Won-Won wasn't even that interested in you in the first place, his heart has always been with me." She said touching her heart and nodding sympathetically, "He says he doesn't love you anymore, and I don't blame him." She cackled

Unsympathetically Hermione pointed her wand to Lavender and shot a spell at her.

"Petrificus Totalus." She muttered.

Lavender fell limp to the ground, only able to move her eyes. With obvious fear that surrounded her a tear ran down her chubby cheeks, and on to the hard- wood floor under her., Hermione Cackled with laughter watching her try to squirm. Ron ran to Lavender, worried.

"Lav-Lav!" He said worried as Hermione scoffed, "Are you okay."

"Huh, your worrying about that git, it should be your arse that you should be worrying about."

With a wave of her wand she sent the knives from the great hall right next to them, flying around them. One landing right next to his head, the next in between his fingers, the next four on either side of his legs, and the last she sent right above his head.

"Hermione your acting crazy!" He whimpered our of fear of her.

"Huh," She scoffed, "says the person that left me for Lavender. I mean who knows if you were going out with her the same time we were, and your calling me crazy? You are a complete arse!" She started to feel angry tears start to form, "I gave everything up for you! My family didn't want me with you! I always defended you when everyone else was doubting you! My friends thought I was wasting my time with you!" Tears started in a steady stream down her face now, "But I thought we had something, so I put up with the torment by them just to be with you, and at the time I thought I was making the right choice. At the time I had absolutely no doubt in you. You were the biggest love of my life, but now you are just my biggest regret." She said still fuming with anger.

She started to walk in the other direction but turned back to Ron still lying in the ground in fear and shock. She kicked him in his "area" and walked away smugly picking up speed as she went on. She kept her head down and facing the other way hoping no one would she her crying.

The whole school got up from their breakfast, and watched their ordeal unfold the whole time. They laughed as they watched Ron and Lavender attempt to get up off the cold ground. In only a matter of about five minutes after the incident, that was all the castle could talk about.

Hermione ran until she was out of breath. She collapsed on her knees. She looked through her watery and blurry eyes around her. At first the castle looked unfamiliar but slowly started to remember. She knew this part of the castle. Right in front of her was the infirmary. She walked in to an empty room, breaking and hiccuping through her tears. Madam Pomfrey looked over at the tear-stained girl and sighed. She knew that look that was spread across her face, all to well.

"Hermione, dear, I think you know just as well as me, there is nothing I can do for a broken heart." She said warmly, grabbing her hands gently and pulling her into the first bed, "But that doesn't mean I can't help. What happened?" She said cupping her warm hands around her face.

Hermione started to cry harder. Madam Pomfrey pulled her into a tight hug, allowing Hermione to cry into her shoulder.

"I don't know what is wrong with me. Why did Ron leave me? And for Lavender? Why would you do that?" She said through her cry's.

"Hermione, dear, look at me," She said sternly as Hermione looked up with her tear stained face, "there is nothing wrong with you. Ron can't see that you a wonderful, intelligent, witty, and beautiful person. I'll tell you something. When I was around your age, maybe a bit younger, I wanted to tell the Gryffindor Quidditch seeker I fancied him. So I mustered up the courage and told him in the middle of the great hall before a game. He told me that he didn't want a girl with a broomstick for hair to be his girlfriend."

"He said that to you?"

"Yes and I remember coming to the nurse at the time, and her telling me this, 'a guy won't realize how much he misses you until your gone.' So eventually Ron will come crawling back to you when your over him. Show him what he's missing." She said confidently.

"Did he come crawling back to you?" Hermione asked Sniffling

"Yea He did. I was in magic nursing school, and his quidditch team was in the area, he saw me at a bar, and tried hitting on me. I slapped him in the face, knocking him behind the bar table, and told him I didn't want a boyfriend with a broomstick for hair." She said with a slight chuckle, as Hermione laughed through her tears.

"Do you mind if I stay here. I don't really want to face the school right now."

"Of course dear. Leave when you feel your ready. I'll be out and about, brewing potions and collecting medicines for the school year. Call me if you need anything." She said walking away.

"Thank you ma'am." She croaked.

Hermione put her feet up on the bed, locking her knees to her chest, as she wrapped her arms around her body. She cried softly in her knees. For what seemed to be ten minutes, was in all actuality around an hour. She looked at the time. Time for potions. She walked off the bed and into the hall. She ran into her dorm, grabbing her backpack.

She swiftly walked to potions. She was a couple minutes late, and Proffesor Slughorn didn't fail to remind her.

"Hermione Granger, you would be the last person I'd expect to be late." He said sternly, "But due to recent circumstances I'll let it slide."

Hermione nodding.

"What are we doing?" She asked

"Oh yes," he said, cupping his hands together, "look on the board, and find your new partner for the year." He said gesturing to the board.

She looked on the board hoping it to be Ginny, but felt a wave of panic wash over her.

"M-Malfoy?" She said in a slight mumble to herself.
