The Past
Over 1,820 years ago, Ymir Fritz gained the Power of the Titans. Many believe she came into contact with the “source of all living matter” as a young girl. With this power, Ymir became the progenitor of all titans. The power of her Titan, the Founding Titan, was the coordinating point linking unseen “paths” which united the minds of her people, the Subjects of Ymir.
What she accomplished with her powers is unknown, but after 13 years Ymir met her death, and her “soul” was split between nine successors who went on to build the Eldian Empire. Afterwards, all inheritors of her power would be doomed to die after 13 years as she did, in a phenomenon that would later be known as “The Curse of Ymir.” No Titan would possess more power than Ymir had possessed in life.
Some time after her death, Ymir’s existence was hailed as a god-given miracle. Many would claim that as the Founding Titan, she used her Titan power to cultivate barren lands, build roads across the lands, and raise bridges through the mountains of the world, though these claims could never be supported. On the other hand, after the fall of the Eldian Empire in the Great Titan War, the new Marley government would spread slanderous legends that Ymir’s power was derived from the “Devil of All Earth.”
The Fritz family was the original royal family of Eldia that used the power of the Founding Titan to rule over their lands. After the Great Titan War, the family split in two, with some staying on the mainland continent that was conquered by Marley, and the others entering the Walls that Karl Fritz had built. The branch that went inside the Walls disguised themselves as a minor noble family known as the Reiss family.
By 824, Dina Fritz was the last descendant of the royal family still living in the mainland. Dina then joined a rebellious organization but was caught and turned into a Pure Titan. Although the royal bloodline lives on in Dina’s son and the Reiss family, the Fritz name is effectively extinct.
Or so we thought...
Ymir’s soul was split between her successors, but there were four in total. Three daughters and a son. Maria, Rose, Sheena and Sten Fritz. While the three sisters each inherited 3 of the titan powers from their mother while Sten only inherited one titan.
The Mind Titan.
Sten Fritz almost died immediately after inheriting this titan. The boy fell extremely ill and was not expected to live due to the sheer power of the Mind Titan. Seeing how powerful the Mind Titan truly was, the King kept the existence of Sten’s power a secret from the Subjects of Ymir. As Sten continued to grow, He seemed to be different from his sisters. He was emotionless, almost inhumane and possessed powers both Marleyans and Eldians could only imagine. All in his human form.
As time moved forward. Sten grew jealous of his sisters’ fame and glory. His hatred grew and grew until he triggered a transformation. In his titan form, he attacked the mainland and wiped out a portion of the Eldians.Sten was only able to transform back after eating his father leaving the nation without a leader.This gave the nation of Marley the opportunity to attack the Eldians while their nation was at its weakest.
As Marley destroyed the nation, one of the Fritz family members used this time to gather as many family members as he could and fled to Paradis and started an empire within the walls. Some of the Fritz family did not believe that they should flee but to stay and fight. As Eldians fled to live inside the walls, Sten used a disguise and fled to the walls to avoid persecution. Sten went into hiding.
The longer he held the Mind titan, the more insane he became. His emotions started to get the best of him, and he was losing hope. When his first child was born. He felt the burden being lifted off his shoulders as he was able to control his emotions once again. Sten finds he can no longer transform into his titan form.
Years go by and Maria, Rose, and Sheena have died due to the Curse of Ymir. But Sten is still there. It wasn’t until his first born shifted into a titan for the first time did he understand. He was kept alive to be eaten by his first born. The curse stops when it is transferred to the first born child of the Mind Titan and does not reactivate until the first born has shifted for the first time. The first transformation can happen at any age and normally happens after a traumatic experience.
Sten may have started this war but I will end it once and for all. I am The Forgotten Titan and this is the tale of how I ended the Great Titan War once and for all.
