Dear Life

(y/n) - your name

I hold Taehyung tightly in my arms as I walked home in a fast pace but careful enough to not slip on the wet concrete. I shiver against the pouring cold rain, blocking off the wind to keep Taehyung as warm as possible. I feel his hands clench around the back of my blouse, his body shivering and I end up running.

I need to get him warm.

I can’t let him get sick.

“(Y/N)!” I see my house further up the pathway with Jackson shouting from the doorway. “Hurry up! There’s going to be a storm!” There was a sudden clap of thunder and I flinch when Taehyung shrieks in fear.

“Shh, it’s ok. We are safe now.” I run inside the house and up the stairs to the laundry room with Jackson hot on my feet. I open the cupboard and take out a large towel, placing Taehyung down on his feet. “Jackson, go run a hot bath please.” My teeth chatter as I wrap the towel around Taehyung, trying to get him warm but his skin was pale and he was shivering.

“It’s cold...” Taehyung shudders and I pick him up and get to my bedroom as Jackson was filling up the tub in my bathroom.

“I’ll take care of him. You need to go and get warmed up.”

Taehyung probably would be embarrassed if I cleaned him up.

Jackson purses his lips and takes Taehyung from me, glancing at my wet bandages. I nod and turn around to see Jungkook sleeping soundly, his stuffed bunny clutched tightly in his arms. I slowly walk over to him and brush his bangs away, as he mumbled in his sleep. I sigh out and kiss his forehead softly.

What is happening to my life.

“Are you ok?” I lean my back against the closed bathroom door receiving a small yes from Taehyung in the bathroom.

“Are you ok?” Jackson calls out and I reply back with a soft yes. The door soon opens and both males walk out with Taehyung dressed in his new pjs. Jackson walks off with the wet clothes to put them in the wash, leaving Taehyung to look around the room.

He’s shy now, unsure of what to do.

“Taehyung, would you like something to eat?” I kneel down and Taehyung looks at me, fiddling with his fingers. He doesn’t say anything but I heard a tiny grumble. I smile as I notice his cheeks going red.

I don’t want to embarrass him.

“Let’s go to the kitchen.” I get up and walk a few feet but I don’t hear Taehyung following me. I turn around to see Taehyung walking back a few steps.

He must be terrified.

It’s a new place.

He probably doesn’t trust me.

“Hey, it’s ok. If you don’t want to come downstairs it’s ok. If you want, you can sleep here next to Jungkook instead if you’re really tired.” I softly say and Taehyung looks up at me then at Jungkook that was still sleeping on my bed.

I don’t mind sleeping on the couch.

I start to walk out of the bedroom when I feel small hands grab my own. I look down to see Taehyung holding onto my arm, hiding behind my leg. He looks up at me but looks away embarrassed.

Oh this sweet child.

I smile softly and bend down to pick him up in my arms, instantly feeling his arms wrap around neck with his face buried into my shoulder.

He must be comfortable in my arms.

“What do you want to eat sweetie?” Taehyung doesn’t say anything.

I’m hungry myself, maybe I should make something simple.

“Do you want noodles?” I feel Taehyung nod his head yes.

“And hotdogs?” Taehyung whispers and I nod, smiling.

“Yes, noodles with hotdogs.” we reach the kitchen and try to cook the noodles and the hotdog with one hand, holding Taehyung up with the other.

“Need some help?” I look over to see Jackson smiling softly at me, shaking his head. I nod and let Jackson take over.

Please don’t burn the food.

I cook the noodles and Jackson cuts the hotdog, plating the food in bowls.

“Taehyung.” I whisper softly, trying to put the boy down in a chair but he clings onto me. I hear Jackson chuckle and I roll my eyes. I sit down on a chair with Taehyung on my lap. “Sweetie, your noodles is going to get cold.” Taehyung doesn’t shift and I sigh as Jackson eats his own bowl. “Do you want me to feed you.” Taehyung nods and turns around and that when I notice more tears.

“You cut them up luck how mum did...” Taehyung sniffles, staring at the hotdog pieces. I stare at Jackson in shock and he does the same, shrugging his shoulders.

“I’m sorry. I can get rid-”

“Thank you...” Taehyung whispers and he looks up at me, his eyes wet with tears. He looks down pats the new bandages on my arm Jackson had put on me.

He’s so sweet.

“Its ok sweetie.” I kiss Taehyungs head and lean back, wiping his tears away. “Let’s eat shall we.”

I stare at the two boys sleeping soundly on my bed, my body filled with guilt. Taehyung was hugging Jungkook who was hugging his bunny, both wrapped under the blankets.

I sigh and stand up, leaving my bedroom and closing the door behind me. I walk downstairs to sit on the couch in the living room. Jackson sits next to me and hugs me, placing my head on his shoulder.

“You did the right thing.” Jackson whispers and I shudder, trying to hold back tears.

“I took his parents away Jackson.”

I took his childhood away from him.

I took his happiness away from him.

Took away the people he loved.

“It’s my fault he won’t be happy. He won’t be happy with me.”

“You’re wrong. You didn’t kill his parents (Y/n). You literally jumped into the fire to save him. You didn’t know his parents were in there too.”

“Jackson, I’m not his mother. I’m not his real mother. He will be grieving for the rest of his life. All his future life achievements, he won’t be able to celebrate with his parents. I-”

“You listen to me.” Jackson suddenly grabs me by my shoulders to face him. “You saved him. You gave him another chance at life. He wouldn’t be here if you hadn’t risked yourself.”

“I’m not his family.” Jackson sighs and wipes my tears away.

“I know, but at least now, he still has someone in his life to celebrate his future achievements with. You may not be his mother by blood, but you will be his mother by heart. And I know you (y/n). I know that you would never let him or Jungkook down and I know that you will always love them.” Jackson hugs me as I smile.

“You always know what to say. Thank you.”

“By the way, have you found my shoes yet?”
