Last Day ~1

I woke up to my alarm going off. Today was my last day of college. Pretty soon I would be walking across that stage getting my bachelors in Forensic Psychology. The last BA I need to be a profiler. Pretty soon after I would be applying to the Behavioral Analysis Unit in Quantico.

I rolled out of bed and stood stretching. I got ready and left for the day. It was only about a 10 minute drive to the school. On the way I listened to my daily crime podcast.

I parked my car and grabbed my bag getting out. I walked inside heading to the elevator as my class was on the top floor. I noticed a tall man with a bag hanging off his shoulder. He was tall and had brown shaggy hair. He was wearing a pair of brown slacks with a white button up and a blue vest overtop along with a pair of black converse. Weird, i've never seen him before. We didn't say anything to each other as we both got in the elevator.

I pressed the top floor. He turned to me. "Top floor huh?" he asked. I turned to look at him. "Yea, today's my last day here" I smiled. Then we stopped and he got out waving at me. I sunk back against the wall as the doors closed. God he was cute. I shook the interaction off as the doors opened on my floor. I walked down the hallway and into my class and took a seat somewhere in the middle. There were already some in the room and more flooded as class started.

"Today is your last day. It's been such an honor to teach such wonderful students. You are all going to do great things one day. But until you walk across that stage it's still my duty to continue to guide you. So your assignment today is to solve your own case. I will give each of you a folder with a different murder. Different meaning, different MO's, different styles, different everything. Everything you need will be in the folder. Police reports, logs from interviews of survivors or family of who was murdered. You will all have an hour to solve it. After we will spend the last 45 minutes presenting who and how you found the killer. When your done write who and why on a piece of paper and bring it to me so that I know you are finished." The teacher smiles and walks over to his desk grabbing the folders. He goes down the isle and hands each of us one and goes back to his desk. "Time starts now" he says sitting.

I open my folder and start reading. All middle aged women, stabbed in the abdomen 3 times and shot in the back of the head execution style. Divorced and single, 2 kids. Reading into these women's histories they all ad a case of child abuse in their record. Most of the cases the women were drunk. All high class. The next hour was spent solving the case.

"I read through the police reports and the record of the interviews. I went through my suspect list. I crossed out those who had alibis, which weren't many. The unsub was a white male, in his early 20's to late 40's. So I crossed off all the suspects who were women. The unsub probably had a split childhood because his parent split when he was young. His mom would most likely abuse him when he visited, hence why his parents split. She probably mentally and physically abused him. This explains why he targets women. As I dug into more of the suspects pasts, I narrowed our unsub down to Brant Lyle. His mother held many accounts of abuse against her. She was a drunk and a junkie, not to mention both mother and father were workers of high class. When he was about 12 he walked in on his father stabbing his mother to death. When the father noticed him, he took the gun off his waist belt and shot the mother once in the forehead. Therefore case solved. We have the who and why." I smiled going to sit down in my previous seat.

"Amazing Sylvia" the teacher smiles and claps. "Who's next?" he asks. The remainder of class everyone presented their cases. Soon after class had finally ended. I grabbed my bag and walked back to my car. Another 2 weeks and I'd be walking across that stage. I've never been so proud of myself. I pulled out my phone and dialed my moms number.

"Hey mom!" she started talking on the other end. "I'm good! Today was my last day of college and I was wondering if you and Kassy wanted to go to dinner tonight? To celebrate" I asked. "Ok! I'll see you guys there at 7! Love you" I smiled and hung up.

At about 6 I took a shower. I straightened my hair and out on a little makeup. I put on a nice blue mid thigh dress and some black flats. I grabbed my keys and got in my car heading to the restaurant.

I parked my car and got out and almost immediately spotted my mom and sister. I ran over and hugged my little sister, Kassy. "It's so nice to see you guys again. I've missed you both!" I said as I hugged my mom. I pulled away and my mom hands me an envelope. "Mom, you didn't have to" I look at her. "It wasn't me sweetheart" she smiles. I look at her confused as to who it would have been from. She smiles, "Just open it honey" she say.

I open the envelope and pull out a dull looking piece of paper. I unfolded it and saw it was a letter and started reading.

~Dear Sylvia,

I'm so sorry that I couldn't be here today to see you graduate. I just want you to know that I will always be proud of you no matter what you decide to do. I hope that one day we will be able to meet again and you will get to tell me everything that you accomplished in your life. Just remember that I will always love you and will always be here for you.

Love Dad.~

All of a sudden I felt a wetness on my cheek and a hand on my shoulder. My dad left me a note. He knew he wasn't going to be here and left me a note. I wiped my face and looked over my shoulder at my sister. I hugged her tightly. After I had stopped crying we all headed inside and sat down waiting to order. We talked and talked. I told them about the guy from the elevator and of course they made fun of me. It was a great night and I'm glad that I got to spend it with my family. What was left of us.
