Without further adieu, Chapter 1!!
~~~~~~~~
"For goodness sake, you need to wake up!" a polite yet angered voice announced from behind. When no reply was given, the voice spoke up once again, this time the anger was much more audible "Eden, your Father is waiting downstairs. We'd like to start eating breakfast so if you'd kindly join us, we'd appreciate it." after yet another unsuccessful attempt at waking up the raven haired girl, the voice subtly sighed in defeat and headed towards the door.
Suddenly, the girl shifted in her sleep and slowly sat up turning to face the owner of the voice. Eden looked up at her Mother β who was already well dressed and ready to go on about her day β and simply smiled at the woman who happily returned her gesture. After a short conversation, the two women made their way down the to the kitchen in which they were met with a quite agitated man.
Eden already knew how her encounter with her outraged Father would go. She was used to his constant complaining and controlling behaviour, yet each time his harsh criticism and insults hit Eden, she felt the same way as she did the very first time she experienced his wrath and hatred. No matter how many years have passed, Eden was always overwhelmed with the same feeling of panic and dread. It pained her that she never managed to grow out of that feeling. Throughout all these years, Eden did everything she could do to numb her father's wounding words yet she never managed to. It was as if all the insulting words of judgement have been engraved into Eden's head. She loathed herself for her incapability to supress her fear.
The best next solution Eden could possibly think of was to at least hide her pain, if she pretended it didn't exist then surely one day it was bound to disappear. She did her best to mask her misery with an outgoing personality, her kindness, generosity and her overall positive outlook on life. Eden hated worrying those close to her, she feared that they would also judge her similarily to her Father so instead of being a burden to those around, she simply pretended her life was as good as she made it out to be because that's what she was used to. Pretending.
Eden's Father was obssessed with the idea of being envied that he would do anything in his power to make those around want to be him β a successful man with an ideal family. Her perfect family was all just one big act. Her perfect persona was just as fake as her family but nobody ever seemed to question it. Over time, Eden manged to perfect that mask and promised herself not to ever take it off.
Throughout all her previous years at Hogwarts, Eden was capable to keep that mask on all the time. Today, she would start her sixth year and she was prepared not to let anything or anyone pull that mask down. She spent so long pretending she was someone flawless and she wasn't about to let all of her previous progress go to waste. Or so she thought.
Eden stepped into the spacious kitchen, instantly feeling rather uncomfortable in the presence of her Father. Goosebumps travelled through Eden as she felt the cold air dancing around her. She walked to her seat in silence with her head pointed straight towards the floor, afraid of what was about to be said. On her short journey to her chair, Eden analysed each crack engraved in the wooden flooring, in hopes of distracting herself from whatever was about to happen.
Her Father's cold stare fixated on her body as Eden headed towards her destination. After mere seconds of uncomfortable silence, the man β sitting at the very end of the table β let a foul scoff escape his lips causing Eden to freeze in her tracks. She hesitantly turned towards the man who decided to speak up.
"Why aren't you dressed yet? Look at yourself." The man questioned, disgust clear in his croaky voice. "What if we had guests? Do you know what would've happened then?"
Eden composed herself, slowly shaking her head in response to her Father. She was too afraid to speak up knowing that even if she tried, she would've been interrupted.
"Look at you, it's like you're begging for attention. You look like a lousy hooker in those shorts and that top, if you can even call that a top." Scowling at Eden, the man continued "If we had guests, they would agree with me. You'd embarrass me, how dare you think this behaviour is acceptable!" Eden's Father was now visibly angry, Eden could've sworn she saw steam leave her Father's ears. He raised his voice significantly louder than before "You think you can walk in here casually looking like that?! Get out of my sight now! I don't want to see you until we have to travel to King's Cross."His short temper never failed to surprise Eden even to this day.
With her blurry vision, Eden hastily turned her attention to her Mother who observed the whole situation. Eden silently begged for help but all she got in return was an apologetic smile from the woman who seemed just as distressed as Eden herself. She gave her Mother one last glance before scurrying off to her room with an empty stomach.
~~~~~~~~
Whilst Eden discounted the nauseous feeling, she stammered through to the other side of the crimson brick wall. Arriving in Platform 9 3/4, she subtly straightened herself up. Eden scanned her surroundings hoping to spot any of her acquaintances when she was disturbed by rather loud complaints coming from behind her.
Eden span around and noticed her parents now standing in front of her. The well put together adults simultaneously flashed Eden a kind smile which she β of course β had to politely return. After the short and awkward interaction between the Rosewell family, Eden's Mother swiftly engulfed her daughter into a tight hug.
"I can't believe it's already your sixth year! You've grown up so much, I still remember when you were oh so little and you used to cling onto my leg. Oh how I miss those times." The woman sadly sighed into Eden's hair whilst caressing it in a caring manner. Soon enough, she released Eden from her deathly grasp and immediately raised her hands up to Eden's face. She softly rubbed her thumbs along Eden's cheeks. "You've got everything you need, right Sweetheart?" The woman spoke once again, this time her voice was more joyous than before.
"Of course I do, Mum. I've been doing this for six years now and I haven't forgotten anything once!" Eden took hold of her Mother's arms in an attempt to reassure the caring woman. "Mum, you checked my trunk five times before we left so I'm pretty sure even if I forgot something, you would make sure it was in there." Eden assured as the two women brightly beamed up at one another. "If Alex was here, he'd check my trunk too. He always did." As soon as the final sentence left Eden's mouth, her voice became small and almost inaudible as certain thoughts intruded her mind.
After the passing of a few seconds, Eden shook off those thoughts and closed the small gap between the two of them once again whilst sinking into the soft, affectionate touch of her Mother. Eden needed to distract herself and what better way to do that than melt into the touch of your loved one? She savoured the sweet moment and smiled to herself in contentment.
Soon enough, Eden broke away from her Mother as their tender moment was rudely interrupted by Eden's Father who cleared his throat in a passive agressive demeanour. Eden then stood to the right of her Mother and observed the man in his suit as he took large steps towards the both of them.
"I think I deserve a short moment with my daughter too, don't you think so, Grace?" He declared while looking down at Eden's Mother.
Grace quickly nodded in response to her husband, avoiding eye contact as much as she could. She hurriedly stepped next to the trolley that carried Eden's trunk and stood silently while watching other families say their goodbyes.
Meanwhile, Eden's Father was now standing in front of the girl looking down at her with a small smile. The fucking fake smile. He only ever smiled at Eden when they were surrounded by others. He wanted to keep up his good reputation making sure everyone knew about how perfect his family was. Although, it wasn't so perfect now.
Eden's Father engulfed Eden into a tight hug almost exactly like his wife did a few minutes ago except his hug was tighter than Grace's, almost suffocating the poor girl in his arms.
Eden hesitated for mere seconds before wrapping her arms around her Father, hugging him back cautiously. Pretend you're enjoying this. Her Father mimicked her Mother's previous movement and slowly stroked Eden's raven hair but as he neared the end, he grasped a fistful of Eden's hair causing her to screech slightly at the sudden pain.
He leaned down, nearing Eden's ear so that only she would hear his spiteful words. "You know what I expect from you, we've been over this countless times. You will NOT disappoint me in any way or you'll regret it. I don't think we want a repeat of what happened at Christmas last year, do we now?" Eden's Father whispered harshly. His grasp on Eden's hair increased causing Eden to gasp out in agony.
His rough voice sent shivers down Eden's spine. She gulped in fear before slowly shaking her head that was trapped between his chest and arms.
"Good. I don't want you slacking and getting distracted at any point this year, it makes us as a family look incompetent and lazy. It makes me look like a terrible parent. We don't want people thinking about us that way. I won't let you ruin the reputation I worked so hard for." And with that, Eden's father released her from his grip and backed away whilst smoothing out his suit with his hands.
Eden did the same as her Father and used her hands to soothe out her perfectly pearl white blouse. She tried getting rid of every possible crease found in her clothing. She needed to look presentable. She needed to look perfect.
As Eden continued to soothe out her clothing, she felt a certain pair of eyes burning holes into the side of her head. She awkwardly turned towards her Father who gave her a dirty look before scolding her.
"Fix your skirt, you're attracting the wrong type of attention. Is that what you want? To be known for being a slut? Disgusting." Her Father asserted before continuing on with his rant. "Alexander was always proper, he had manners which you clearly lack. He also had respect. Not just for me but himself also. He wouldn't let people see him in such a state."
As used to getting shamed as Eden was, it still wounded her an awful lot hearing such degrading words coming from her own Father. But what made the whole situation worse was being compared to her favourite person. Her role model and her best friend all in one. Being compared to Alex caused Eden to feel like she just disappointed the most important person in her life. Like she only made Alex look worse. It caused guilt to rush through her body, the same guilt she felt when she saw Alexander in his final moments. The same guilt that was gradually shattering Eden into millions of pieces.
Eden felt her tears rising in the corners of her eyes at the remembrance of the traumatising event a few months prior. Her Father continued to shame her β not that Eden even seemed to notice β until he was cut off by the deafening train whistle.
Eden exhaled in relief at the familiar sound, her tears instantly evaporating as she smiled to herself once again. She promptly pulled down her skirt, following what her Father had said before looking up towards her parents and taking in their presence for the last time.
He would've been standing with them.
"You better get going now, love. I'll miss you so so much but we'll see each other at Christmas break." Grace started to ramble on, trying to overcome the slight sadness she felt knowing that Eden was about to leave once again. "Oh! where's Arabella, you can't forget her!" She spoke up once again remembering about a certain someone, her voice high pitched as she frantically searched for the almost snow like ball of fluff.
"Ah, of course she's next to you! She adores you, I should've know." Grace explained as her eyes landed on the all white cat which rubbed against Eden's leg. Her stress practically disappearing at the sight of Arabella who softly purred in fulfilment. Grace leaned down and reached her arm out to stroke the four legged creature.
"M-mum, I should really go now." Eden interrupted her Mother who quickly stood up at Eden's words. She nodded in response as Eden said her final goodbyes. "I love you, mum! I promise i'll write you from time to time and i'll update you so you don't worry, I know what you're like!" Eden let out a small laugh at her own comment whilst she carefully picked up Arabella from besides her.
"I worry because I care. I'm a mother what else do you expect from me?" Grace questioned lightheartedly. "Okay, I won't keep you any longer! Enjoy this year, have fun with it! Don't forget to tell Hannah and Cordelia that i've sent my best wishes to them! I love you sincerely and I can't wait till Christmas!" Grace finally finished as she watched Eden awkwardly jog up towards the train with her hands occupied with both her trunk and Arabella.
Eden searched the train when all of the sudden it moved forwards, lightly throwing Eden off balance. The preoccupied girl mumbled to herself in surprise and then proceeded to walk through the tight and somewhat crowded corridor. She glanced down at Arabella, making sure her companion was comfortable and safe and then continued her search for an empty compartment.
Once she found exactly what she was looking for, Eden opened the timber carriage door after struggling with it for a minute or two. She entered the familiar compartment and let loose of her trunk which hit the floor with a loud clank. Eden then immediately plonked herself down and sunk into the comforting material of the seat underneath her.
Arabella decided to stay wrapped in Eden's arms whilst they radiated the warmth the creature craved. Once Arabella found herself in a comfortable position, she attempted to drift off to sleep. Although, that didn't last long at all.
Arabella was rudely interrupted by two obnoxiously loud figures stumbling through the door. They seemed rather cheerful whilst Arabella felt complete annoyance at their arrival. Arabella tensed up in her owners arms whilst she studied the two figures. Once she realised they weren't a threat towards Eden, Arabella relaxed once again.
"Eden!" The two figures simultaneously exclaimed. Eden, just like Arabella did seconds ago, scanned the faces of the figures before quickly realising it was her two sidekicks. Hannah and Cordelia.
The trio, almost like every friend group in Hogwarts, became inseparable from the very first day of their first year. For some reason the three of them just clicked, they understood each other perfectly despite their differences. Since then they couldn't deal with being away from one another, if for some peculiar reason they were separated, it felt as if the world was ending.
Most say that trios are dangerous, that they never last, that someone will always be left out yet this never seemed to be the case for the two Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaw. It's always been the three of them and they were sure to keep it that way for eternity.
Both of the blondes sat down in the seat opposite Eden after also throwing their trunks down. The trio shared their signature look between each other before bursting out into a fit of giggles. Overstimulated with the joy of all being together once again, they sat in a comfortable silence after managing to calm down and enjoyed each other's presence.
"Okay okay, enough of this!" Cordelia laughed out whilst circulating her finger in the air to represent the three girls and their silence. "C'mon one of you, tell me about your summers! It's beens months since we've seen each other, I need to know if my babies are a-okay!" The Ravenclaw exaggerated dramatically as the other two burst out into contagious laughter once again.
"Del, we all know you don't really want to hear about our summers!" Hannah commented in response as she continued. "Tell us about your summer, we know you really want to." She finished whilst smirking up at the girl besides her.
"Are you guys sure? I don't want it to seem like I only care about myself. You girls know I love you both and I'm interested in your sum-" Cordelia was cut quickly cut off by Eden.
"Just spit it out already, what happened now? Did you break someone's heart again?" Eden questioned with curiosity.
"Right so basic- Excuse me? "Again?" When have i ever broken someones heart?" the Ravenclaw was fast to defend herself.
"Zachrias Smith. The Hufflepuff that longed for the attention of the famous Cordelia Walker. Fourth year, ring any bells?" Hannah chimed in, grinning mockingly at Cordelia.
"Ohhhh, don't even remind me of him. He was a disaster and one big mistake. Never again!" Cordelia replied, slightly embarrassed at the memory. "Well, anyways..." She quickly shook off the memory and went back to speaking about her exciting summer. The other two girls not once interrupting her as she explained her holiday and why it was the best one yet.
After what seemed like hours passing, Cordelia had finally finished which meant that the two Hufflepuffs were free to comment on Cordelia's holiday full of random hookups in a foreign country.
"So long story short, each night you picked a new victim to shag?" Eden spoke up bluntly. Hannah laughed out at Eden's comment which earned her a hard shove from Del who near enough pushed the poor Hufflepuff off her seat.
"Fuck off, they weren't victims!"
"Yeah not victims, just people that happened to be unlucky having to fuck you."
"Unlucky?" Are you saying i'm bad in bed?! I should've expected that you girls were going to make fun of me, like usual."
"Hey! It's how we show our love for you and you know you secretly love it."
"Exactly, you adore us really!"
"Surprisingly." Cordelia mumbled under her breath. Both of the Hufflepuffs looked at one another, letting out dramatic gasps before putting their hands on their hearts and pretending to be deeply offended.
The girls spent the rest of their long journey sharing stories from their holiday, laughing at one another or simply sitting in comfortable silence.
Once the trio decided that their journey was nearly coming to an end, they took turns in going to the bathroom to change into their house robes. Eden decided to go last. She took her change of clothing and faced the girls once again before leaving the compartment.
"Don't. You hear me? Do not feed Arabella." Eden's voice stern as she directed all her attention to Cordelia. "I'm talking mostly to you, Del." Eden finished as she walked out the compartment, sliding the door behind her shut.
Eden headed straight towards the bathroom, her head looking downwards as her eyes traced the patterns of the flooring that she passed along her way. She found herself doing that often. Tracing random patterns on obscure objects as a distraction from all the remorse she knew she would instantaneously feel.
Whilst her head was down, Eden seemed to unknowingly get closer to a group of people who were too engaged in their conversation to realise that Eden was walking towards them.
Suddenly, Eden was lightly bounced back by an unknown force. She shuffled backwards and forced her head upright and unfortunately for her, Eden was met with four pairs of slightly agitated eyes.
Why, why, why did I have to bump into him. Out of anyone it had to be him. I really don't have time for that today.
Even though Eden really didn't want to, she gave the platinum haired boy, whom she ran into, an apologetic smile.
Be nice. You've got to be nice to everyone, that includes Draco, sadly.
In return, the boy gave her a frown which quickly spread across to the rest of the group that Eden didn't seem to remember the names off. Well she knew their surnames, of course. How could she not? They were seen as royalty at Hogwarts.
Eden decided it would be best to dismiss the group's rude behaviour so without saying a word, she tried to swerve around the group when a deep angered voice spoke up.
"Watch where the fuck you're going, Rosewell."
Woahh, what's up his arse today? Dickhead.
"Im sorry, I just didn't see you there, Draco."
"Clearly." Draco scoffed whilst looking Eden up and down with the same frown still present. "And it's Malfoy to you, halfblood." He simply added.
"Alright Malfoy, I'm sorry. Ohh but maybe next time you could also watch who's coming towards you?" and with that, Eden gave Malfoy another polite yet slightly sarcastic smile.
"Just shut up and watch it." He growled once again.
Eden did exactly that. She picked up her pace once again but not before letting out at least one snarky comment.
"As you wish, your majesty." Eden muttered under her breath quiet enough in hopes that the group wouldn't notice. As much as she would love to talk back, she couldn't afford to present herself as disrespectful.
Eden was positive that no one heard her which led her to continue walking towards the bathroom. Whilst passing the group, she was in such close proximity to a tall brunette who towered over her. She gave him a short and polite glance without concentrating on him for too long.
What Eden failed to realise though was that the brunette seemed to catch her remark. Surprisingly, he didn't snap at Eden for insulting his best friend nor did he make a fuss out of the situation like Malfoy commonly would.
She never payed the boy much attention, just like the rest of their group. All that she really knew about him was his surname. She was also aware of the fact that he was supposedly Malfoy's closest friend as well as the son of a well known Death Eater.
Now, Eden isn't one to judge someone solemnly on who their parents were. However, knowing that the son of a monstrous man was roaming around freely in Hogwarts did have some sort of impact on her. Especially with the recent circumstances.
"You heard her? The blood traitor thinks she can talk back to me like that and accuse me of being in the wrong? Fucking delusional, she is!"
Eden stopped in her tracks once again, thinking that she somehow Malfoy managed to take notice of her subtle insult. With her back facing the group, she continued to listen into their conversation hoping that the subject would be dropped soon enough.
"My gosh, Malfoy! You're such a sad git, y'know?" Eden caught a new voice behind her, Eden's curiosity getting the best of her as she turned, her attention now fully on the group. "Some dumbass walks into you and you're gonna let it ruin your entire day? C'mon mate, it's not that much of a deal anyway!" Eden spotted the brunette from earlier now patting Malfoy's shoulder with force, jerking him forwards. She was shocked to see that Malfoy didn't retaliate against the boy and instead let himself be thrown around by the slightly taller boy.
When the subject of Eden was dropped, the hufflepuff tuned out the rest of the conversation the four were now having and made her way to the bathroom without further interruptions.
Once Eden was done, she quickly made her way back to the compartment. Watching out for Malfoy or anyone that could potentially ruin her mood on her way back. As she entered the β to her surprise β fully calm compartment, both of the girls were staring at Eden with confusion painted all over their faces.
"What took you so long?"
"Yeah and why do you look so scared?"
"And out of breath?"
"And relieved at the same time?"
The two girls sat opposite Eden took turns questioning her and picking out small details in her expression and movements whilst Eden relaxed in her seat and laughed at the girls' assumptions.
"WAIT WAIT, I GOT IT! LOOK AT HOW MESSY HER HAIR IS! THAT MEANS ONE THING AND ONE THING ONLY." Del exclaimed ecstatically.
Both of the girls looked at each other with menacing smiles and then looked back towards Eden waiting on her explanation.
"Okay first of all, Del shut it. You're so loud! Second of all, I know exactly what you're thinking about. You're wrong by the way, so don't get your hopes up for some nonexistent details!" Eden defended herself as her hands cut through the air and signalling the end of this absurd conversation.
"Should've known, Mrs Perfect would never be caught dead doing the naughty in a train toilet!"
"Neither would you, Del!"
"Well...it could be worth it." Cordelia replied with hesitation.
"You are one sick person!"
"No! You're just boring."
"Am not!"
"Are you sure?"
"Stop it! Now, what or who got you so riled up then?" Hannah changed the subject before the conversation could get out of hand.
"Blondie and his bodyguards." Eden rolled her eyes at the memory of their unpleasant encounter.
"Ohhh, now that makes a lot more sense." Hannah laughed as Cordelia's cheeks flushed red with embarrassment at her silly accusations.
"He really doesn't give you a break."
"Tell me about it!" Eden responded with slight annoyance.
The rest of their short journey to Hogwarts, the trio continued to keep themselves occupied with muggle games like Rock, Paper, Scissors or Tic Tac Toe. Even though these games seemed simple for those used to them, one particular pureblood struggled understanding the point of the games which the two Hufflepuffs found quite entertaining.
~~~~~~~~
After what seemed like an eternity, the trio was finally back in Hogwarts for the start of their sixth year. As exciting as that sounded, Eden had some sort of feeling that this year wouldn't exactly go to her pretty much flawless plan and this nerved her completely. Whether it was something to do with her school performance or her reputation and personal relationships, it terrified her. The uncertainty of what was going to happen this year made Eden's stomach twist and turn at the thought of screwing up and disappointing her Father. Or even worse, disappointing Alex. Not being capable of doing so exceptionally well academically as he did.
However, she decided not to pay it much attention right now. After all, she only just stepped foot into the building and she didn't want to start off her year by being anxious so instead she brushed it off knowing she would just have to face these problems when she was alone. She continued to slither through the maze like corridors along with the rest of the students towards the Great Hall.
When everyone entered the Great Hall, students simultaneously looked up towards for the ceiling that projected a fascinating starry night sky which never failed to impress newcomers as well as those who by now should be used to it. It was something about the literal and metaphorical magic of the ceiling that made it so alluring and in general addicting to look at in general.
After most students got over their awe of the sky, they took their seats at their rightful places and awaited for the first years to be sorted before everyone could feast.
Eden took a seat at the Hufflepuff table in between both of her dorm mates β Hannah and Susan Bones. Soon the table was flooded with familiar faces of fellow Hufflepuffs, most of which seemed fulfilled with the feeling of being back "home" as most called it. Eden herself felt quite the opposite as hunger overtook her. She wanted the ceremony to be over and done with as quickly as possible in order to finally be able to eat for the first time today.
However, to Eden's rather unfortunate luck, the ceremony not only bored her half to death but it seemed increasingly longer than it did all those previous years. Eden grew much more impatient as time passed yet she tried not to show it. She distracted herself, either cheering on new Hufflepuffs or looking up at the deep sapphire sky whilst fiddling with her bracelets.
When Eden heard clapping erupt around her, she smiled to herself knowing that now she would finally get what she waited so long for. Nothing would ever compare to the incredible feeling of finally being able to give into the wonderful foods Eden was ready to drown herself in.
She waited as the golden platers and utensils placed themselves, perfectly positioned in front of each student. What seemed to excite Eden even more was the so perfectly appealing food that now lay right in front of her.
Without second thought, Eden launched herself towards the middle of the table and grabbed everything in her reach with such speed and determination. Just like a hunter feeding on its prey, Eden dug straight into her food, not leaving a single crumb behind.
"What's gotten into you?" Hannah inquired whilst playfully nudging Eden. "You're acting as if you've never seen food before."
"Shhh. Let me have my moment. This is so so so good, just let me enjoy it." Eden silenced the blonde next to her as she smiled in satisfaction and enjoyed the rest of her meal.
The meal in question disappeared within the passing of a few minutes. When Eden seemed pleased with her intake of food, she excused herself from the table and hastily hurried to her dorm without small talking with those around her as she usually would.
Her pace was fast yet not fast enough to completely lose control of herself. Eden navigated through the identical halls of the castle. To her surprise, Eden's tiredness didn't cause that much of a dilemma and Eden remembered her way to the basement which she was so eager to enter as it meant being closer to her bed.
Eden stammered into the brightly lit common room debating whether or not making her way up all the way to her dorm was worth it when she could just sleep on the couch. In the end she decided that her bed was far more cozy and continued to make her way to the dorm where she would be reunited with her companion once again.
Eden's body emitted with exhaustion as soon as she stepped into the broad dorm. Her eyes quickly shifted to Arabella who was already sleeping soundly at the foot of Eden's bed. The Hufflepuff took a moment to admire her cat's peaceful state and then wasted no more time as she strode over to the hefty bed. She didn't bother to change her clothing or any of that nonsense and instead Eden let her body collapse into the relaxing silky sheets below her. Her head hit the feathered pillow and with that Eden passed out within seconds of entering her room.
"For goodness sake, you need to wake up!" a polite yet angered voice announced from behind. When no reply was given, the voice spoke up once again, this time the anger was much more audible "Eden, your Father is waiting downstairs. We'd like to start eating breakfast so if you'd kindly join us, we'd appreciate it." after yet another unsuccessful attempt at waking up the raven haired girl, the voice subtly sighed in defeat and headed towards the door.
I don't want to see you until we have to travel to King's Cross."His short temper never failed to surprise Eden even to this day.
With her blurry vision, Eden hastily turned her attention to her Mother who observed the whole situation. Eden silently begged for help but all she got in return was an apologetic smile from the woman who seemed just as distressed as Eden herself. She gave her Mother one last glance before scurrying off to her room with an empty stomach.
~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~
After what seemed like an eternity, the trio was finally back in Hogwarts for the start of their sixth year. As exciting as that sounded, Eden had some sort of feeling that this year wouldn't exactly go to her pretty much flawless plan and this nerved her completely. Whether it was something to do with her school performance or her reputation and personal relationships, it terrified her. The uncertainty of what was going to happen this year made Eden's stomach twist and turn at the thought of screwing up and disappointing her Father. Or even worse, disappointing Alex. Not being capable of doing so exceptionally well academically as he did.
However, she decided not to pay it much attention right now. After all, she only just stepped foot into the building and she didn't want to start off her year by being anxious so instead she brushed it off knowing she would just have to face these problems when she was alone. She continued to slither through the maze like corridors along with the rest of the students towards the Great Hall.
When everyone entered the Great Hall, students simultaneously looked up towards for the ceiling that projected a fascinating starry night sky which never failed to impress newcomers as well as those who by now should be used to it. It was something about the literal and metaphorical magic of the ceiling that made it so alluring and in general addicting to look at in general.
After most students got over their awe of the sky, they took their seats at their rightful places and awaited for the first years to be sorted before everyone could feast.
Eden took a seat at the Hufflepuff table in between both of her dorm mates β Hannah and Susan Bones. Soon the table was flooded with familiar faces of fellow Hufflepuffs, most of which seemed fulfilled with the feeling of being back "home" as most called it. Eden herself felt quite the opposite as hunger overtook her. She wanted the ceremony to be over and done with as quickly as possible in order to finally be able to eat for the first time today.
However, to Eden's rather unfortunate luck, the ceremony not only bored her half to death but it seemed increasingly longer than it did all those previous years. Eden grew much more impatient as time passed yet she tried not to show it. She distracted herself, either cheering on new Hufflepuffs or looking up at the deep sapphire sky whilst fiddling with her bracelets.
When Eden heard clapping erupt around her, she smiled to herself knowing that now she would finally get what she waited so long for. Nothing would ever compare to the incredible feeling of finally being able to give into the wonderful foods Eden was ready to drown herself in.
She waited as the golden platers and utensils placed themselves, perfectly positioned in front of each student. What seemed to excite Eden even more was the so perfectly appealing food that now lay right in front of her.
Without second thought, Eden launched herself towards the middle of the table and grabbed everything in her reach with such speed and determination. Just like a hunter feeding on its prey, Eden dug straight into her food, not leaving a single crumb behind.
"What's gotten into you?" Hannah inquired whilst playfully nudging Eden. "You're acting as if you've never seen food before."
"Shhh. Let me have my moment. This is so so so good, just let me enjoy it." Eden silenced the blonde next to her as she smiled in satisfaction and enjoyed the rest of her meal.
The meal in question disappeared within the passing of a few minutes. When Eden seemed pleased with her intake of food, she excused herself from the table and hastily hurried to her dorm without small talking with those around her as she usually would.
Her pace was fast yet not fast enough to completely lose control of herself. Eden navigated through the identical halls of the castle. To her surprise, Eden's tiredness didn't cause that much of a dilemma and Eden remembered her way to the basement which she was so eager to enter as it meant being closer to her bed.
Eden stammered into the brightly lit common room debating whether or not making her way up all the way to her dorm was worth it when she could just sleep on the couch. In the end she decided that her bed was far more cozy and continued to make her way to the dorm where she would be reunited with her companion once again.
Eden's body emitted with exhaustion as soon as she stepped into the broad dorm. Her eyes quickly shifted to Arabella who was already sleeping soundly at the foot of Eden's bed. The Hufflepuff took a moment to admire her cat's peaceful state and then wasted no more time as she strode over to the hefty bed. She didn't bother to change her clothing or any of that nonsense and instead Eden let her body collapse into the relaxing silky sheets below her. Her head hit the feathered pillow and with that Eden passed out within seconds of entering her room.
