Chapter 15: Bruce Finally Has His Answer
Bruce finally has his answer
“I believe you should see the footage Master Bruce,” Alfred murmured. “Then you need to be ready to make a statement for damage control.”
“Damage control, story of my life,” Bruce snarled. Then turning to Andrea, he saw she’d gotten off the bed and was moving his way. Holding out his arms, he pulled her to his chest and kissed the top of her head. “I’ve been living lies and in subterfuge for a long time. So, I believe I know how to put a spin on this too, Baby. However, there may be a problem with your friend…”
“I’ll deal with her, Bruce,” Andrea told him. Placing a kiss on his bare chest, she leaned her cheek against it and sighed before adding, “I’ll tell her what the truth is mostly, I think it best. She knows I’m dating you, so I really think she’ll understand. I’ll tell her how I don’t remember being rescued, just waking up with you hovering over me. I’ll say I watched the news as she asked, and that’s when I realized it was me she was speaking about.” She bit her lip as if thinking hard. “Yes, that sounds plausible.”
“Okay, you call her, and I’ll start cleaning up the mess I made by bringing you home as Batman,” Bruce murmured. He gave her a soft kiss on her cheek before heading toward his room. “Come, Alfred, let me tell you what needs to be said if they show up at the front door.”
“Yes, Master Bruce,” Alfred answered. He gave Andrea a soft smile and squeezed her arm gently before suggesting, “You might wish to go see young Master Dick. He’s feeling a bit bad about what happened last night.
Andrea was puzzled as to why Richard would feel bad, so she asked, “Why?”
“That is something you should ask him,” Alfred answered and left.
Andrea knew she needed to call Jeanette, but Richard’s need was more critical. So, stepping out her bedroom door, she made her way down the hall to his room. Knocking softly, she waited for him to say “come in” before entering.
“Hey, Richard, are you okay?” Andrea asked as she sat down on the edge of his bed. “Why the long face?”
Richard put his phone off to the side and stared at his hands for a long moment.
Andrea reached out and placed her hand on his knee to squeeze it as she said, “Whatever the problem is, it can’t be that bad, and together we can work it out.”
Richard looked up, and his eyes were watery as if he were fighting tears. “Are you going to leave us now?”
“Leave? Why would I leave?” Andrea asked, shocked at his response.
“Because now you’ve seen the bad side of being associated with a Wayne. Everyone wants some of Bruce’s money, and they’ll stoop to any low to try and get it,” Richard admitted as he wiped at his eyes.
“Oh, sweetheart. I love you and Bruce. You two are my life now,” Andrea told him as she moved up closer to him and pulled him into a hug. “If you genuinely love someone, you work it out. You don’t run at the first sign of trouble, Richard. Besides, Bruce asked me to marry him this morning, so you’re stuck with me playing “mom” and driving you crazy.”
Richard laughed as he nuzzled his face into her neck, admitting, “I’m glad. I miss having a mom. Maybe you and Bruce can have that baby named Robin, hm?”
“Um… a baby named Robin?” Andrea questioned, feeling confused as to what he was talking about.
“You don’t remember?” Richard asked. He pulled back from her embrace, a smirk on his face.
Andrea frowned as she admitted, “If it was something I said last night, everything is a bit hazy, sorry.”
“It’s okay,” Richard told her. “You were probably in shock, but you said you liked yellow and asked if you could wear Robin’s cape. You also mentioned that you want to name your first-born Robin.”
“Oh,” Andrea murmured. Clearing her throat, she asked, “Did I say anything else?”
“Well, you did kinda give Commissioner Gordon the idea you had a crush on Robin because you said Robin was sweet, and so you’d let him take you home.”
“Oh… wow. Okay, well, Bruce didn’t say anything about me doing that,” Andrea sputtered as she felt her face heat in embarrassment. “That’s embarrassing, and I hope you didn’t take it that way because I’m sure I didn’t…”
“Don’t worry, I didn’t,” Richard announced. “I know exactly how crazy you and Bruce are about each other, and it makes me happy. So, it’s all good, I promise.”
Andrea breathed a little easier at that but sighed heavily.
“What’s wrong?” Richard asked.
“My friend, Jeannette,” Andrea answered. “She saw the news release where Batman was carrying a woman out of a building...”
“Ah, is she the one with the crush on Batman?”
“That’s the one, and she is not happy about what she saw, but it could get worse if she finds out it was me,” Andrea told him.
“Sounds like you need to call her ASAP,” Richard told her.
“Yeah, I guess so,” Andrea huffed as she pulled her phone from her pocket. She took a deep breath as she added, “Here goes nothing, wish me luck.”
“Good luck,” Richard said as he picked up his phone. “Oh, and Batman and Robin were out looking for Poison Ivy when they found you.”
Andrea nodded in acknowledgment of his words.
“Andrea, did you see the news yet?” Jeannette asked as soon as she picked up.
“I did, and that’s why I called,” Andrea said as she swallowed nervously. “I want you to hear me out before you go off the deep end, okay?”
“Okay,” Jeanette agreed.
Andrea knew it was too easy but still admitted, “That woman is me.”
“WHAT!” Jeanette screeched.
“Yes, it’s me. I was kidnapped last night by two thugs wanting to get their share of Bruce’s money…”
“Oh, girl,” Jeanette whispered sadly.
“Yeah, I have quite the beauty mark on my face right now,” Andrea said, glad Jeanette was now calm. “Anyway, apparently Batman and Robin were out looking for Poison Ivy and saw what was going on. On the other hand, I don’t remember much except yelling about my dad being a Judge. Then I woke up with Bruce gazing down at me with a worried look.”
“So, you don’t even remember being in Batman’s arms?” Jeanette asked in a solemn voice.
“Oh poo! So, you can’t tell me what those muscles feel like up close and personal,” Jeanette said with a sad-sounding sigh. “I will never know, not even through you, apparently. I just know I won’t.”
“I fear Batman has someone already,” Jeanette muttered sadly. “I try to ignore the feeling, but I just feel it. So, I suppose it’s time to move on.”
“You like Bradley, don’t you?”
“Yeah, I do,” Jeanette gushed, “and girl, he is hot, hot, hot in the sack and has to be at least…”
“La, la, la, la, la!” Andrea practically yelled, bringing Richard’s head up to stare at her, his eyes wide. “I don’t need to hear anything else. I need to go anyway…”
A loud banging from downstairs caused Andrea to stop talking and turn to look at the door.
