Blurb

2085, A time where Vampires roamed the earth freely, while us humans remained hidden in the shadows, fearing the heartless beasts that feed on us. I wish I could say us humans defeated the Vampire Chain -- but sadly, we did not. Most of us humans became Vampires, or we got captured and became blood bags for them to feed on. Or we became toys, toys that the beasts love tricking and playing with. I wish could also say that there's free humans out there, living their lives as if there were not a single Vampire out for their blood. But no, he has all the humans trapped in his mansion, in his home. My name is Amelia Heart, and this is the story on how me and my sister Elliot survived, then died.

CHAPTER ONE.

"Elliot, we need to move, we can't stay in one location, they'll find us and if I lose you I won't be able to live with mysel-"

"Calm down, Amelia, you won't lose me. I was just viewing what was in the fridge -- and all I found was a bag of apples." Elliot held up the bag, I grab the bag from her hands, looking inside of it and seeing 6 red apples, I chuckle.

"How odd of someone keeping six red apples in their fridge but nothing else." I say, causing my fourteen- year old sister to smile softly. It is not a real bright smile, it's a "we're most likely going to die so I might as well smile for my older sister so she doesn't notice my fear or worry" smile. Yeah.

I place the bag of apples in Elliots blue backpack, zipping the bag up and passing the bag too Elliot.

"Elli, let's go now." She nods in agreement.

You see, we are on the run.  After the world was over-taken and ruled by Vampires, there were not a lot of humans left for them to feed on. My sister Elliot and I are supposedly the last breathing humans on this earth. My mother and father had me and my little sister in secret, hid her and me from King Zain -- the Hybrid and ruler of all Vampires, he did not know of me and my sisters existence, so my parents wanted to keep it a secret. King Zain sent seven of his troops to investigate the premises, that meant my father and mothers land. Not aware that my father was married too a human, they quickly found out -- so they killed my mother, then they killed my father minutes after that -- he was punished because he associated with a human without notifying the King.  So that left me and my little sister defenseless.

There was always a rule with King Zain, and that number one rule is :

YOU CAN NOT ASSOCIATE WITH A HUMAN WITHOUT NOTIFYING THE KING. FOR IF YOU DO, YOU WILL BE PUNISHED IN THE MOST SEVERE WAY.

Yeah, killing my mother and father was pretty severe if you ask me.

Now I'm raising my sister, teaching her, trying my best to keep us both alive.   I used to get so angry, I would cry in complete frustration as my little sister slept. But then I suddenly realized -- there is no point on weeping through the night, no, I need to protect and provide for my little sister and I. But I also need to be strong and solid -- like a stone, unbreakable.  Neither of us will survive if I can not hold it together. I just pray that we make it another night.

"Do you think we could look for flowers later on?" I look towards Elliot, giving her a warm smile.

" 'Course we can, what kind of flowers, may I ask?"

"Dandelions."

"Why dandelions? There are much more prettier flowers in the woods, Ellie."

"But they're beautiful.. They are unappreciated, ignored and alone..."

I raise a brow at Elliot, stopping dead in my tracks, looking in Ellie's eyes.

"Also, they aren't that cliche."

"Okay, we will go searching for Dandelions."  I say, Elliot squeals excitedly, smiling brightly, wrapping her small arms around me, pulling me in for a tight hug. I quickly hug back, chuckling softly.

"We better get going, we have a long way to go still."

Jean Tryon: As a beta, I found this story outstanding!! Plot, grammar, phraseology, etc Rachel gives us it all. She takes the story into the future from where due South ends. She is an exacting and thoughtful author.

Sandra Estrada: I loved every minute of it and I thank my lucky stars that brought me to the story, it's been a whirlwind of emotions, plot twist after plot twist but I never got tired of them. GeorgeS: The author has a VERY refreshingly direct writing style. Sometimes being punched in the gut (or nose, as the case may be) can be an excellent thing, indeed. Mourn8220House: When first reading "Avarice," I thought it would be another fairytale but I was taken back the author's approach and choice of ending. Elizabeth Robbins: 4.5 starsAs far as apocalypse stories go, this one took a new direction. I'm glad someone finally addressed the need for a vampire apocalypse! The Rising Sun was one of the first stories I read on Inkitt, and I have to say I don't regret the three to four days I spent pouring through the story.Probably the biggest strength I see in your writing is your characterisation of Eliana, Oriens, and the rest of th...
