Tales from the Walking Dead: Jackson Holmes

By kolba84

Action / Horror

The Outbrake

Jackson Holmes wakes up to his cell phone vibrating. He rubs his eyes and reaches towards the phone, hand missing the phone. He finally grabs his phone and lifts it towards his ear and talks, "Who the heck, and what the heck do you want?" I said into the phone. "Jack! Its me, Steph, I'm at work, check the TV, channel 10!" says his wife nervously. Jack, sleep deprived, waddles out of bed and lays his feet on the cold hard wood floor. He puts on his slippers and slides on a white T-Shirt.

He walks into the living room and flops on to the couch. He turns on the TV and takes a quick glimpse at his award for his service as a military doctor. He flips through the channels till he makes it to channel 10 where the news headline reads "THE DEAD WALKING AROUND STREETS". At first Jack thought of it as a his mind playing tricks on him, then his eyes started to adjust more as he made out the words. His eyes widened and immediately started getting dressed. While slipping on his jacket and blue jeans, he slides his necklace over his shaggy black hair that drapes over his eyes. In the other room he can make out the words, "The government recommends an immediate transportation of some kind to Atlanta where you can be protected from this outbreak".
Jack ran to his phone and called Stephanie. "I am coming to pick you up, we are going to Atlanta, I need to keep you safe." I said hastily. "Jack, hurry, and be safe... I'm scared".
"I know Steph, I won't let anything happen to you, promise"
"Get here soon, I love you"
"I love you too". He hung up the phone and swiftly grabbed his car keys from the kitchen counter. He looked at his small suburban home that he might never see again. Jack runs outside and hops in the car and begins driving to Steph's place of work. With high traffic it took him a long time but saw Steph waiting just outside for him. She made her way into the car and they exchanged worried smiles. They get out the GPS and set it to Atlanta, a long drive from Orlando. Scared and anxiously, they held hands they whole way.
