Land of Vescuru

Neculai is holding Tatjana as Flight 1897 hits turbulence, "How do you say eternal eye?" Neculai pulls out his lighter and lights a cigarette, "You will know in a moment." She glares up at him, "Who is doing this?" He kisses her, "Come find me in Vescura." Flash of white light.

Tatjana is sitting at a bar, sipping a glass of red wine. She is drunk and swinging her arms around, "You, waiter, bring me more wine." The waiter hesistates, but pours her a glass. "Is this the Land of the Dead?" Everyone stops and stares at her. "If it is can someone tell me how to get back to New York City."

Lumina, her guardian, walks in. "Tatjana, thank the Gods. Are you alright?" Tatjana stares at her with a quizzical look, raising her eyebrow in surprise. She tries to analyze her face. "I do not know you." She smiles, "Yes, you do. I will explain later. I have been there with you when others would not. I need to talk to Sandu, he will know what to do." Tatjana spins in her sit and stops suddenly, seeing a man in the distance staring at her. Neculai holds a left hand up to his eye in a V formation while laughing to his friends. His stare soon returns to Tatjana with all seriousness.

"You go Lumina, I am having a good time." Lumina walks to the back of the bar to a secret door and disappears. Tatjana continues to spin in her chair, catching glances from Neculai. Her tight skirt rides up her leg the more she spins. She pulls out her phone to appear disinterested. Just as she starts to push off to spin, Neculai holds her stool. She drops her phone, startled by him.

"I noticed you are having a very good time, Miss. Perhaps too good a time." She laughs, "And who are you to say I shouldn't have a good time?" He leans in, "You attract unwanted attention. You are not safe." She stands up, "And are you here to protect me?" Tatjana could see flickers of danger in Neculai's eyes, like a snake who has just seen his next prey. She had experience with snakes.

"Your charm and smirks won't work on me. I am of an ancient time. Eons of ages beyond ages. You have captured my attention." She sits back down, "Should I be worried?" He smiles for the first time, he takes her hand, she does not resist. "Very. Will you stop me?" He kisses her hand. This could not be good, she felt herself drawn to his mystery, his essence. "What is your name?"

He eyes the secret back door with intent, "Neculai. But I know who you are."

Tatjana puts her phone in her bag. She smiles, "Oh really you know who I am, tell me who I am then, Neculai." He eyes her entire face every curve and line. "A flash." He stops himself short. "I will say nothing more. Your name is Tatjana and your destiny has been written by my kind, the Vescurians, in scripture."

She stands up holding her drink, "I decide my destiny mister...whoever you are. Excuse me, but my girlfriend will be back any minute now." Sandu and Lumina appear outside the secret door. Lumina signals her over.

Lumina puts her arm around Tatjana, "Watch who you talk to here. I can guide you, but you must trust me." Tatjana smiles and Sandu offer his hand to her, "Welcome to Vescura, I am your host...no really, I am Sandu. Pleasure." He kisses her hand. Neculai watches from his sit. "I'm Tatjana. Lumina tells me you know what to do." He laughs, "Well I try. But a word to the wise, do not trust that man sitting over there. He comes here often, spying no less on what the rebels are up to."

Tatjana's eyes widen, "The rebels? I assume Lumina will brief me soon on all this." Sandu and Tatjana sit down and Lumina stands, watching Sandu's back. "I can brief you now on this. Listen, the history of Vescura I will not get into tonight, but what I will tell you is that there is an uprising happening. In secret rebellious circles the truth of all is being spoken of endlessly, even your beloved Earth is mentioned quite often, for many here have come from your home."

Tatjana suddenly eyes Neculai. She blinks and feels his stare weighing on her whole body and soul. She snaps herself out of his stare, "Lumina, I need a place to stay tonight." Lumina smiles, "Of course, everything is arranged." Tatjana is surprised, but she brushes it off quickly.

Lumina and Tatjana say goodbye to Sandu outside the bar. Neculai follows Lumina and Tatjana, walking stealth yet close by. Lumina hands Tatjana a key, "Here you are. You are number 7." Tatjana smiles warmly, "Thank you Lumina." She stares hard into her eyes, "You remind me of...something." Lumina opens the main door for her "Hopefully something friendly. My goal is only ever to be your friend, from this planet to the next."

Tatjana feels a cold chill run down her spine and turns around, sensing someone is watching. "What do you know about Neculai?" Lumina laughs and her eyes widen, "You mean that man you were eying the whole time Sandu was talking to you? You seemed quite taken by him." The moonlight hits Tatjana's face, "More than taken by him. He was so mysterious, almost unreal."

Lumina gives her a hug and smiles, "Sandu knows more about him than I. But what I do know is that he can't be trusted. He is one of the Vescurians, the secret keepers, the darkness dwellers. He works for the dark government. But think not on all this tonight. I have left a gift for you in your room. Have a good night Tatjana." Tatjana's eyes glisten in the moonlight with curiosity and surprise. "Thank you again, you have been sweet and kind to me. Goodnight Lumina. How will I contact you?" Lumina slips her number and a phone into Tatjana's hand "Enjoy your gift."

genlynne2379: I read the other review of this book and I must say that I disagree with it wholeheartedly. I do not believe the author put the apostrophes in the names just to be unique, but because the characters are supposedly of a different race than humans. They are Anmah. They should have different names a...

Stephen Warner: To start off, I am thoroughly impressed. The writing style is somewhat unique, and the plot seemed to move at a nice and steady pace.
