| Two | Your Majesty

I waited until I heard mom and George drive away. When I saw the lights of their car disappear around the bend, I whipped back around to Tyler, with my hands on my hips.

“What the hell?” I said, anger ripping through me like fire. Tyler picked up his soda again and drained the cup, the ice clinking at the bottom of the glass. “Oh, Zoe.” He said as he smiled and then placed the glass down. “Don’t look so mad. You’re not as pretty when you’re mad.” His voice held no compulsion this time and his eyes twinkled with mischief and laughter.

“Screw you Tyler,” I said between clenched teeth.

He moved around me with such grace that for a second I thought he was floating. He pulled a chair and sat down right in front of me.

“Tell me.” He said as he crossed his legs. Tyler looked to be someone of high etiquette, but his clothes didn’t fit his persona. “What is it about all of that, that angers you?” He tilted his head at me. Confused by his current change in speech, I narrow my eyes at him.

“The fact that you infiltrated my mind. You made me feel relaxed doing those things. I’m not supposed to be comfortable with any of that. You’re my stepbrother! And the fact that some people would have the decency to wait maybe a few days before trying some mess like that!” I was upset, screaming at the top of my lungs. My hands were in fists and my hair was sticking to my neck.

Tyler sighed and got up. He came close to me and the anger that was burning my system began to die down. Now extremely confused about what the hell was going on.

“I didn’t make you do anything, dear.” He said and brushed the hair away from my face. He looked at me with lust and what...hunger?

“How did you do it?” I asked watching his eyes more intensely. “And what do you mean you never made me do it?” I asked raising my eyebrow

His finger brushed my cheek. The motion should be weird and would have made me slap his hand away normally, or to any on in general really, but for some reason, it doesn’t agitate me when Tyler does it. What irks me is the fact that he’s doing it and I don’t seem bothered by it.

“That you will have to find out for yourself. But I promise to you, my darling, that you will soon find out. I never did anything to you. I knew your emotions and your feelings. I just unlocked the gate that held your feelings at bay.” I looked back at him, now scared. “You’re crazy. That doesn’t make any sense. And why are you talking like that?” I pushed his hand away and stepped backward. He reached out to touch me, but I just moved back some more.

“I need you, Zoey Cartwright. I’ve always had this desire to have you. You belong to me, Zoe. No matter what it is that restricts you from being with me. It will not make me stop. I won’t quit until you realize that I am the one for you.”

“You’re crazy Tyler. How could you possibly think that I would want to be with you? You’re my stepbrother. What would George even think? What would my mom think?!”

Tyler tensed and his lips formed into a thin line. “George and your mother have no amount of power over me. I am my own man.”

“Tyler. You’re scaring me. George is your fa-”

“He’s my adoptive family. I don’t come from around here. You should have realized the way I looked at you and the way I have been.”

I stared at him with a weird look. Tyler looked back at me and then I tensed. “Tyler,” I said and walked up to him. I didn’t know what I was doing, but I couldn’t control myself. The way he was looking at me was drawing me.

He looked at me and then a smile formed on his lips. “Yes, my love?” He whispered. His voice wrapped around me like a soft blanket and I closed my eyes. Opening them, I looked right into his eyes. I traced from his cheek to his lips. They were warm and extra soft.

“Please tell me. How did you do it? You moved too fast to be merely human.” He touched the nape of my neck and then ran his tongue over his teeth. “You will soon know Zoe. I guarantee that. Come with me. I want to show you something.”

I looked into his eyes and nodded. He smiled a little and then took my hand, leading me upstairs. I followed without any resistance. He opened the door leading to his room and I gasped as I saw what was before me. The room’s theme was red, blacks, and burgundy. The walls in light beige and the chairs were in black and burgundy. The curtains were a mix of black and red and the bed frame, dresser, and chair backs were in dark mahogany. His bed was king sized and the sheets were beige and deep red. They were blood red roses in obsidian black vases on every table. Red candles lined the bed. I stood there, staring looking at the décor. Tyler pulled me in a little closer and then locked the door behind me.

“What do you think?” He whispered to me and held the small of my back. I nodded my head. “It’s beautiful. Where did you get all this stuff? And how did you fix up your room like this?” I asked completely baffled.

“I am a King Zoey. I told you I would tell you everything and everything there is to know about me. About us.” I looked at him and I knew that the spell that I was under was gone.

“Us? Tyler. I thought we already talked about this.”

“And I already told you what I had to say about it. I do not care about what George and Margret have to say about me or about us. We are meant to be together and I will not let them hinder that.”

I sighed and walked over to the bed. I ran my hand across the sheets and the pillows. They were so soft.

“Will you listen to me, Zoe? Will, you listen and not judge me?”

I turned around and looked at him. He walked up a little closer to me and touched my arm. I studied his face. The sun rays pierced through the curtains and shone onto his face. It shone and I noticed that his eyes were full of pleading and love. I nodded my head. “Okay.” He smiled and lifted my hand to his lips. “Thank you.” I looked at him cautiously as he pulled up a chair.

“Sit down on the bed Zoe.” He tapped a spot on the bed and I tried to climb on the bed, but it was too high.

“Did you have to get such a high bed?” I asked and put my hands on my hips. Tyler chuckled and came up behind me and grabbed my waist. He lifted me up and then laid me on the bed. I looked up and saw his face over mine looking into my eyes. He stayed there looking down at me for a good while.

“Tyler,” I said and looked away from his gaze.

“I’m sorry. It’s just that you look so beautiful here. The way your hair billows around your head and the way your lips match the sheets. Your hair is as black as obsidian. You look like you belong. I’ve searched everywhere looking for you. And now-”

He smiled at me and I just stared back.

“Now I’ve found the one girl for me. Now I’ve found my Queen.”

I blushed and turned away. Yes, he was absolutely gorgeous, and yes all I wanted was for him to touch me and claim me. But he was my step brother and it wasn’t right. And what was he talking about? Him looking everywhere for a Queen? He’s been talking about royalty all day long.

He leaned up and helped me sit in an up position. He then sat down and looked at me.

“What are you talking about? I need you to explain yourself.” I folded my arms and stared at him.

“As you wish.” Tyler nodded. “I am a King. A Vampire King. It is my own duty to find a Queen. One that matches me. My personality. One that I can’t live without. One that would claim me.” He got up and began to walk around, his hands behind his back. He stopped and looked at a portrait of a stunning woman on a wall. I hadn’t realized that it was there until now.

“My mother.” He said and touched the side of the painting.

“She was beautiful,” I said and unfolded my arms.

“Yes.” He continued. “That she was. She was so kind. And she ruled the kingdom with such poise and power. Everyone loved her. She didn’t deserve to die. She didn’t hurt anyone. Why should she be hurt?”

I gasped. “What happened to her?” Tyler turned around and I saw tears forming at the corner of his eyes. “She was killed by vampires. Our own kind. They were working as soldiers in the castle and were escorting her from a meeting with a rival kingdom. They attacked her, ripping her to pieces. I never got to see her body. She was burned in a ceremonial funeral. The last thing she said to me was that I would make a strong King one day, that my father would be proud, and that she loved me with all her heart. I was only 9 when she was murdered.”

My mouth dropped and I placed my hand on it. I couldn’t believe it.

“So how did you get here? How did you end up being with George and playing all those sports?”

“After Mother died, the officials of the kingdom decided that I should be raised and taught the ways of the kingdom if I was going to rule it one day. I trained vigorously, day and night in the rules, regulations, culture, and ways a king should behave, act, rule, and dress. They made me the best. Then the days came that I should go out and find my bride. The young ladies of the kingdom came to the palace, and I spent three years dating every single one of them for one week. Some were fat some skinny. Some were nice, some were so self-righteous it killed me, but they were all beautiful. They were all vampires after all.”

Tyler shook his head and smiled to himself. He looked at me and then walked to a dresser that was full of bottles of cologne and spices. There was a huge jewel box in the corner, filled with diamonds and pearls. He picked it up and carried it over to the bed. It looked like it was at least 5 pounds heavy, excluding all the precious jewels. The box itself was a treasure. It was made out of oak wood and had gold and diamonds encrusted into it. I stared at it in awe and rubbed my hands all over the top. Tyler looked at my hand and smiled.

“It belonged to my mother. She told me to keep it until I found the girl I was going to marry.”

“Wow,” I said and chuckled.

“Go ahead. Open it.” He said and pushed the box toward me. I opened the lid and my mouth dropped open. The jewels were gorgeous. Tyler picked up a huge diamond necklace that I knew if I held I would either drop or drop with it.

“Turn around Zoey.” I did and held my hair to the side. Tyler lowered the necklace over my head and then clasped it around my neck.

He let go and I almost tipped forward. Tyler reached out and caught me. “It’s okay Zoe. You’ll get used to it soon.”

I laughed and sighed as the huge diamond in the middle rested in the nape of my neck. “Right. It’s gorgeous by the way.” I laughed and he took it off. “Where was I?” he said as he returned the necklace to its slot.

“You were talking about how you dated so many girls.”

“Oh yes. The vampire girls. Well, I was close to marrying one. She was beautiful and reminded me as one of the wonderful maids that took care of me when I was young. However, there was something about her that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. It wasn’t until later I realized what it was. She was eating humans.”

“But...” I said and raised my eyebrows. “All vampires drink blood. Why is it that she was so different? Don’t you drink human blood?” I asked and then tried to move away from him, scared of the answer.

“Yes. But she was different. She didn’t kill humans to eat. We only had one feeder anyway. That one feeder was our breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There was always food and nutrition for the feeder to eat after their blood was taken. The vegetable always gave them more blood.”

“Her name was Dana and she killed humans for sport. They were rarely humans in our kingdom but she found some and their numbers dropped steadily. She would first extract her fangs and scare them half to death. Then she would lift them off the ground by their different body parts and throw them wall to wall, to the ground, the ceiling. She would torture them. Cut them until the scent of her blood made her mad with thirst. Then drain them. And dump their bodies in the ocean. It was horrible. And at first, I didn’t believe it. Until I saw her do it with my eyes. I killed her myself. She was unfit to live. It wasn’t the main fact that she was killing the humans because she was bored or greedy. It was because they reminded me of my mother. They didn’t deserve to die.”

I nodded and touched his hand. Tyler looked up at me and smiled at me. I smiled back and crept closer to him on the bed until I was right in front of him.

“I believe you, Tyler. I can’t believe I’m even saying this. But it kinda makes sense. That’s why you were never around when Mom was dating George. He said that you were off, gone to school for something but he would never tell us what it was exactly, but George is human. Does he know what you are?”

Tyler nodded and then looked at me. “He found me. After I killed her, I drank some of her blood. I don’t know why but I had too. It was too strong. She had drunk so many humans that their blood blended together and was in a way like extra strong rum. It rendered me unconscious. He found me in the rain and brought me home.”

“I immediately tried to leave before he told anyone who I was but he identified me as the King and told me that he would help me with anything that I would need it with. So, I went to the palace the next day and made the preparations for us to come to America to find my queen. Then one day, while we were in the supermarket, George and I saw your mother. She was beautiful and was paying for some groceries. George gasped and looked at me, pointing to her. He wanted me to talk to her.”

I opened my eyes wide.

“George wanted you to marry my mother?” That was so sick to me.

“At first. But I saw the way he looked at her, and when he looked back at me I still saw that look in his eyes. I told him that she wasn’t my type, that I wouldn’t want to explain the great age difference, and that I was not interested. I gave him permission to talk to her. He did and then they began to court. That’s when George came up with the idea for me and you to enjoy each other’s company when they went out on their outings. He told me that you were beautiful, even more, desirable than your mother was to him. So I decided to give it a try.” He looked at me and I saw a look of tenderness in his eyes for a moment. “He couldn’t have been more correct. You are a jewel, Zoey.”

I blushed and looked away. “You sure do know how to talk to a young lady. I bet you’ve had to use it a few times.”

“Zoe.” He tilted my head to look at him. “I don’t want you to feel as if I use my compulsion skills to get everything that I want. I don’t use it on any and any human being. When you compel someone, you create a bond. We have a bond. You feel the same things I do and I feel the same things that you do.”

I smiled and then hugged him. I felt him chuckle and he embraced me back.

“You’re so sweet. You’re basically everything I could have ever wanted in a boyfriend. But why did it have to come in the form of my Step-Brother?” I wined and lay there in his arms.

“I don’t know my sweet.” He said. “But don’t let that bother you at all darling. If you really want to be with me, if you really don’t mind being with me, coming back home with me and becoming my bride, then there is no power here that can keep you from that.”

I drew back and smiled at him. Yup, Tyler was everything but I didn’t know how I could ever overlook the step-brother fact. I looked at the clock. It was 9:30 pm. Mom and George had been gone for half an hour or three more and then they would be home. I looked back at Tyler who had a normal face on.

“What is it? George and Margret will be home later.” He said and then brushed my hair off from my neck.

“I know. I’m trying to think what I should do until then. I am pretty tired, unfortunately, and I have homework to do.” I groaned. “I hate Chemistry.”

“I will do it for you.” Tyler offered. My head shot up to look at him.

“Are you serious?” I asked. He smiled and nodded.

“After all, I do have to learn what I will be doing in high school.”

I nodded and smiled. “Of course.”

He smiled at me and helped me down off the bed.

“Thanks,” I said as I walked to the door. I opened it and turned a little as Tyler put the chest back on the dresser.

“Uh, Tyler? Do you really play all of those sports?”

He looked at me and blinked. “Well, yes. I have to have an image. George says that I must be the one guy in high school that every girl wants and every boy wants to be like.” He cocked his head to the side. “Do you think I can be like that?”

I laughed and nodded.

“Yes. I think you can. You won’t even have to change anything about you.”

“Well. Except for the way I dress. I refuse to wear such peasantry clothing.”

I laughed and nodded again. “Ok, your Majesty. I’ll check on you after my shower. My homework is in my backpack. Which is downstairs by the way. I’m sorry.”

Tyler waved it off. “It is quite all right. I will go downstairs. I am hungry after all.”

“Wait. If you’re a vampire, how can you eat and drink regular food?”

Tyler smiled and placed one hand behind his back. “My father was a human. It’s quite ironic actually.” He smiled and looked down at a ring on his finger.

“Oh. Your right. It is quite ironic.” I laughed and then went downstairs to get my phone. I picked it up off of the table and opened it to see a message from Ni. It read:

‘Hey, Zo. I know. Sigh. I haven’t been around lately because I’ve had some family issues that needed correction, but everything is all right now. Is Cassie okay? Last time we talked we go into a fight. I miss her.’

I smiled and then replied.

‘Oh okay. I’m glad everything is good. Text her. She wants to talk to you I’m sure. She’s done with the whole fighting thing. It’ll be fine. Believe me. :)’

I sighed and after a drink of water headed back upstairs to my room. I got my undies and sleepwear out and then went to the bathroom to take a shower. Yawning, I looked in the mirror. I didn’t see what Tyler was talking about. I wasn’t that beautiful. I was regular and bland. If he saw Cassie, I’m pretty sure he would change his mind about me being his Queen. But she’s with Ni. That’s the only thing. If they break up, then I’ll introduce Cassie to Tyler. Then he’ll see that there are many other pretty girls and he won’t look twice at me. That way I won’t have to decide whom I’d want to stay with.

That way I can still be Zoey Cartwright.
