There was a knock on the door and I placed my trigonometry homework on the bed. I hoped it was Tyler, but I knew that Tyler was getting rid of Cassandra’s body. I sighed and raked my hand through my hair.
“Come in!” I yelled and folded my hands onto my lap.” Mom opened the door and I tried not to smile. I heard her say something to Tyler before she came inside. I hope he didn’t get into trouble. She sounded a little annoyed. And Tyler sounded respectful.
“Hi.” She said and closed the door behind her. She walked over to my bed and sat down next to me. I smiled at her and she smiled back. Her hair was in a bun on the top of her head and was wearing her PJs.
“Hi, Mom,” I said and placed my pen on top of my homework. She looked at it and then sighed.
“I remember Trigonometry. I hated this thing.” She laughed and I chuckled.
“Really?” I said and tapped the paper. “I love Trig. I hate Chemistry.” I said and pushed out my bottom lip.
“That is so funny!” she said and began cracking up. “I love Chemistry!” she laughed and I laughed as well.
We smiled at each other and then she looked at me.
“Zoe.” She said and got comfortable in my bed. Uh oh. I looked up at her face and tried to give a confident smile.
“Yes, Mom?” I said and looked up from Trig.
“I have to talk to you about Tyler.” She said. My heart began to beat louder. Did she know that Tyler and I had sex? If she did that would be the worst crap ever. I would be grounded and chopped up into tiny pieces.
“What about Tyler?” I swallowed. She looked straight into my eyes. She was fighting a smile and she knew I knew it.
“He likes You Zo. And I know that you like him too. It is too obvious in the way you look at each other and hang around each other. He told me that he liked you and that he has liked you for quite some time now.”
“Really?” I blushed and couldn’t help but grin. She nodded.
“Yup. And I have no problem with that. Tyler seemed to be very flattered when he told me. I’m pretty sure you and he will make a wonderful couple.”
I stared at my mother, shock written all over my face. It didn’t make any sense. How could Mom say all of this and look sincere? She must be joking. I mean Tyler is my stepbrother! I couldn’t help but think that she was under a little compulsion.
“Mom...are you serious?” I asked again, placing my hands on my hips. Mom threw her hands up in the air and laughed.
“Oh, My Goodness Zoe! You know for a girl who has a huge crush on her very attractive step-brother, and since her mother has given them both permission to be together, you are very unbelieving.”
She looked at me and we both began laughing.
“Wait,” I said and raised my hand. “You told Tyler too?” She nodded.
“Yes. I knew that he liked you. Before I came to your room, I saw Tyler in the hallway.” I smiled at my mother and then stared at her with a look of love in my eyes. She looked back at me and smiled back.
“Oh, Mom! Thank you!” I squealed and threw my arms around her neck laughing and hugging her at the same time.
“You’re welcome, Zoe. Now I’m gonna go. Let me see if I can pull George away from that stupid raider’s game.” She stood up, gave me a kiss, and then walked out of my room. I sat there looking at the ceiling and smiled to myself.

I stepped out into the clearing of the woods and dropped Cassandra’s corpse by a stack of logs. Her head rolled a few feet away from her body and I could tell by the hollow sound that it was beginning to disintegrate. Looking around the clearing, I walked to the middle and picked up some logs. I made sure that the logs were dry so that the fire could catch quickly.
After I placed the logs on one another, I picked up the corpse and its head and then froze. My body did not want to move. I frowned. This never happened to me. yet it did not feel bad, in fact, it felt like a yearning for something or for somebody. I looked down at the body in my hands and then forced myself to walk to the fire where I threw her body in.
The flames crackled and hissed as they attacked the corpse, destroying it in a matter of seconds. I sat there, looking into the flames, thinking about Zoe. I knew that she was still bent over her math homework, trying to finish her work before I got home. I wanted to be with her this very moment. Closing my eyes I imagined my arms around her, our lips crushed against each other, her soft flowing hair, and her beautiful body. I had never felt this way about a girl before. Not so strongly. I loved Zoe and I swore on my life that I would never let anything happen to her.
After the body was completely destroyed, I outed the fire and turned back to the door I had come through. I stepped into the passageway and smiled because I knew that I was a few steps away from Zoe.

I sighed and looked down at my hands in my lap. I still couldn’t believe that Mom had sanctioned me and Tyler to be together and I wanted to play it safe. I smiled to myself and climbed off of my bed.
Stretching, I walked to my bedroom dresser and looked at my reflection in the mirror. I smiled and looked over my facial features. It felt great to love someone and be loved by the same person.
I leaned back from the dresser and heard a knock at the door. I grinned because I could feel Tyler on the other side of the door. I bounced over to the door and pulled the door opened with such force it almost fell off the hinges.
He looked at me and a huge grin spread across his face. I smiled back at him like an idiot and giggled. Tyler stepped forward and wrapped his arm around my waist.
“Hey,” I said and looked into his eyes.
“Hello,” Tyler whispered and ducked his head.
This was a new beginning. This was what I’ve been waiting for, what we’ve been waiting for. A new chance, a new opportunity to do things right. Now we can start new, fresh. Now is the time it’s the two of us against the world.
I know there’s a lot of things I still don’t know about especially things about Tyler’s world but with him, by my side, I feel like I can do anything.
