Chapter 17

I expected him to be happy but the look on his face was anything but.

“Cor-” I cut him off before he could talk me out if it.

“No, I’m serious. I want this.” And I did. I needed it.

Realizing how close I was to being marked by another male made me realize how childish I’ve been.

It’s important to me that I have a say in my life and body but it’s also important to me that my mate is happy and our pack is stable.

“The ceremony is in a few days.”

“I don’t want wait a few days. I want this. I’ve wanted this for a while now.”

He stood up and I followed.

“Cordelia, no. You’re not thinking. I’m not going to mark you because now you feel like it. You won’t feel this way later and I’m not dealing with it.”

Quickly this situation was turning in a different direction. Getting angry I stormed around the bed to him.

“Not dealing with it? I am your mate. Not dealing with it is not an option. If you didn’t want to deal with it, you shouldn’t have dragged me here! You should of left me in that forest and let me live out the next year of my life in peace. Instead what did you do? Oh, that’s right you played with my emotions and toyed with me until I was so messed up I believed I loved you.”

Pausing for a moment. I looked in his eyes. His brown orbs had darkened considerably and I knew I had started something.

“Listen here, mate. I have waited long enough to find the one the Goddess chose for me. When I saw you drop down from the trees I thought maybe it was worth the wait. Maybe she had graced me with a strong, clever woman. Instead I got you. You are nothing more than a bratty teenager who pouts and lashed out when she doesn’t get what she wants. You acted foolishly tonight and if you think I am going to reward that kind of behavior, you are sorely mistaken little girl. Do me and my pack a favor and grow up.”

He pushed past me and out of the room. It was obvious we were back to square one and with the ceremony a few days away, it was going to be tough to make up for lost time.

Not wanting to chase after him, I slipped back into bed and went to sleep.

Later that day, Hailey came with me around the pack grounds to get to know the land better.

“So, how’s it going with the Alpha? I heard you had a pretty eventful evening.” Hailey’s voice was playful, but I could tell she was just being nosey.

“We fought for the first time in a while. It was bad Hailey. I don’t know what I’m going to do. I can’t be with someone who doesn’t respect me.”

“Then don’t.”

Startled by her response I stopped walking. She turned around and elaborated.

“If you are really so unhappy then leave. I love spending time with you but if all we are ever going to talk about is how much you hate him then I can’t do it. You’re being unfair to the man. He has waited so long to find you and with all he’s been through he deserves to be happy.”

“So what then? My happiness needs to come last because he had to wait a little longer?”

“That’s not what I’m saying. I’m telling you that you need to stop judging him as the man in the forest and start looking at him as the Alpha that is your mate.”

I had nothing else to say so I looked at my friend. She had a point but it was not one that I wanted to accept right now.

She gave me one last look before turning around and leaving me alone. I made my way through the rest of the pack and returned home.

I made my way to the office to hear Tyler talking to someone. I would have thought nothing of it, but the voice that responded was a females.

Trying not to jump to conclusions, I entered to see Tyler sitting at his desk and a woman leaning on mine.

Her skin was deep and her straight black hair was to her shoulders. She had a cute face and I could tell by looking at her she was tall.

She had on a emerald green jumpsuit and looked like she owned the place. If I hadn’t known any better, I would think she was his mate.

Tyler gave me a quick glance before looking back to the woman across the room. I made my way to my desk and sat down. The woman didn’t move a muscle as I sat down and remained on my desk.

“Move.” My voice was quiet but the underlying threat was obvious. If she didn’t move herself, I would help her.

She stood slowly and turned to look at me.

“Wow, Tyler. For an assistant, she sure is bossy. Why don’t you take the day off hun? I have some business with the Alpha I’d like to take care of.” She gave me a wink and I’m not sure what pissed me off more. She called me his assistant then insinuated that I leave so they could fool around. Then I realized what it was.

She didn’t know who I was. No one has seen me with Tyler save for a few and most don’t know what I would look like anyway. Standing I decided to introduce myself.

“Cordelia Adams. Daughter of Alpha Henry Adams. Soon to be Luna of the very ground you walk on. So why don’t you take a hike because I have to speak with my mate.”

I gave her a wink as well and her face flushed. “Sorry, Luna. Alpha Westwood hasn’t informed me of your arrival. I’ll be on my way.” With that the woman was gone and my attention was on the male before me.
