The Beginning And Everything
“We, this thing we have, is eternal.” He always tells me. But I think I should back up a bit. We met in a club. I never would have gone there on my own, but my best friend insisted I come with her.
“Kate,” She told me, “Doing this will give you a dose of normal, something you clearly don’t have.” In retrospect, I probably owe her my life. If we had never gone out that night, I probably would have never met him.
“How did she talk you into this?” I grumbled to my reflection as I applied makeup in shades of blue and green that complimented my pale skin, “I mean, you don’t even like dancing, or drinking, or loud music, or…” My voice trailed off. Chloe had told me that I’ve been single for too long. That was true. My thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door.
“Kate, babe, you ready?” Came the voice through the heavy carved oak door. I walked outside and joined her on the porch.
“I wish you wouldn’t call me babe,” I complained, “It makes it sound like we’re together or something.” She grinned that smug little grin of hers.
“Well, from how you’re dressed, I would kiss you if I didn’t have a boyfriend. You look smoking hot.” I grinned sheepishly and stepped into her ancient silver Cadillac.
