Flirting: Overboard Or Not?

I’d been there for only a few minutes, and I already didn’t like it. The club was loud, with flashing lights and fog, and it all made me feel very small and claustrophobic. Chloe and I stood in a crowd of people. We were dancing, which only amounted to swaying a bit and make strange gestures with our hands, when Chloe spotted the boy staring at us.

“Hey, look at him,” She giggled, “He’s soooo hot.” I looked over. I couldn’t see him very well through the multicolored beams of lights, but Chloe was right. He was hot. I felt a tug on where I imagined my metaphorical heart would be and I thought, this one's special. He caught my gaze and I felt my cheeks flush a violent red. Chloe nudged me,

“Go talk to him,” she told me, “He’s obviously checking you out.” So I made my way through the crowd and sat down next to him.

“Hi. Umm...” I looked uncertainly back at Chloe, who gave me a shrug like, its your problem now, buddy, then she disappeared into the crowd.

“Have I seen you before?” The boy spoke up. I looked at him. It was the first time I got a good look at his face, and wow. He had a sculpted face, with high cheekbones, and a sharp nose. He had an angular jaw, and his raven hair was slicked back from his face and tumbled around his shoulders. The look was finished with brilliant emerald green eyes. I caught myself staring and recovered my poker face.

“Can’t say that you have,” I said warily, “What’s your name?” He gave me a sly grin,

“Loki.” His voice was smooth, enchanting, “You remind me of someone.”

“Who?” He lazily waved a hand in the air,

“Doesn’t matter. Who are you?” I noticed I was twirling my hair around my finger and mentally scolded myself.

"Kate, nice to meet you."

We slid into easy conversation. Loki evaded most of my questions, so the conversation turned to me. After a while, his phone rang. He checked it and cursed,

"I gotta go." He stood and dropped a slip of paper onto the table. He walked away a few steps, then turned around. "Call me." He winked, than he too, vanished into the crowd.
