Opportunity at the end of disappointment
“Ugh” grunted Estevan. He was getting fewer clients than usual these days. Just as he was about to give up and go to bed, exhausted from hours of sitting and clicking the refresh button on his mac, his phone rang.
The ringtone always made him smile. He had set it as his brother, a recent high school graduate, singing Adam Levine songs.
He didn’t recognize the number and risked having to pay for long distance calls by picking the call.
“Hello?” he said gruffly. After getting no reply for a minute; he whispered, his Grecian accent thicker in his distress, “If this is a scam; I’m going to have to pay a lot of money for this call, so...I’m going to hang up now.”
“Wait!” a reply finally came from the other end. The voice was feminine and sounded lyrical.
“I’ll pay the bills, please just hear me out” she whispered frantically.
“Okay,” he said after deliberating. “But, why are we whispering?”
“I don’t know. BTW my name is Sierra Mantelle” she announced boldly.
“No way! You mean the actress?! I heard you’re getting married, congratulations!” he exclaimed.
“Thanks, that’s actually why I called. I heard you’re a photographer and I need one for my wedding. So, are you in or not?”
“Of course, I'll help"
"I'll send the venue, the time and the dress code of staff to you tomorrow. Thanks for agreeing, I was beginning to think I'll be taking selfies on my big day." She rushed out.
"Oh, it's no problem, I'm always happy to help. Well, I look forward to hearing from you."
"Goodbye," She replied, cutting the line.
