Chapter XLII

โ€œGet away from me.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not even bothering you,โ€ his voice exhales against my ear, indicating just how close he was.

โ€œYour existence does.โ€

His chuckle vibrates through me as I grit my teeth at the warmth that spreads through me before I glance over my shoulder at him, our eyes colliding. Adrian grins, flashing his teeth in what he would see as a charming manner.

โ€œYou canโ€™t deny the way you feel when Iโ€™m around.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t make me curse in front of these kids.โ€

From across the room, Kyri giggles, smiling as she sweeps her hair from in front of her face. I shuffle away from Adrian and move towards the crib, gazing down at the small bundles that slept peacefully beside one another, they were both cleaned enough to where their features could be seen more clearly, each taking after their parents.

The boy was a smaller version of Delano, same hair color, face shape, eye shape and everything that could tell you with one look that Delano was his father, with a few features that belonged to Kaitlyn. The girl was an exact replica of Kaitlynโ€™s nose, lips, eye shape thatโ€™s framed with her dadโ€™s lashes but she had the aura as Delano, she hasnโ€™t whined or cried ever since she was birthed, it was like her emotions were shut off.

I reach inside the crib and grab onto her small hand with my thumb and forefinger, rubbing the top of her hand as she slept peacefully, my thoughts wandering to Kaitlyn; the worry that I forced down, making a rise again.

โ€œShe will be fine,โ€ Kyri speaks, already looking at me when I turn my attention to her in question. โ€œThereโ€™a nothing to worry about, she is with Delano.โ€ she gives me a smile to reassure me.

I stare for a second longer before turning away and back to the twins, the boy shifting in his sleeping to where he was Adrian steps closer from behind me, the heat reverting from his body snaps me from my thoughts as one of his hands comes around and grasps my hip.

โ€œWhy are you in my personal space and why are you touching me?โ€

The palm of his hand burned through the material of my shirt as I turned around to face him, it wasnโ€™t the uncomfortable feeling like fire was raging along the surface of my skin, it felt. . . nice, soothing, and made the mark on my neck tinge, all thoughts vanishing. Thatโ€™s what Iโ€™m afraid of.

โ€œYou know what else Iโ€™ll like to be in,โ€ the smirk on his face was further clarification of his meaning.

Though my face portrayed a disgusted look, my mind and body spoke a completely different thing.

โ€œDo you want to get hit by a car again?โ€

The smile on his face fell into nothing, the expression relaxing into a blank slate, his hand squeezing my hip while those eyes shifted into a raging fire that looked as if it wanted to consume me whole.

Just recalling the image of him flying over the hood of the car almost made me laugh in his face, I keep my face neutral besides the tightening of my lips and donโ€™t have the time to react before Iโ€™m lifted off the ground and thrown over his shoulder with a shriek of surprise.

โ€œWhat the hell?! Put me down!โ€ I exclaim as he makes his way to the door.

He bursts out of the room, the door shutting behind him and blocking me from getting any help that I needed. Turning away from the door โ€” my head nearly hitting the frameโ€” he walks down the lingering hallway in silence, each step bouncing me on his shoulder.

โ€œCan you put me down!?โ€ I kick my legs, using my hands to grip his shirt and pull myself up to look over my shoulder.

He was staring straight ahead, not paying any mind to me beside the arm wrapped around my waist tightening. My hand comes up and smacks him across the back of the head, definitely getting his attention.

โ€œPut. Me. Down!โ€ I grit out.

And he did exactly that, shifting me around to slid down the front of his body in one fluid motion as I feel very rigid, and hard plane of his body. Heaving out a deep breath, the action seemed useless as gasp inaudibly while gazing up into Adrianโ€™s eyes, the ruby reds glaring down at me.

I take a step back, his feet moving forward, a dance being made as Iโ€™m backed up into the wall, stuck in the path of a predator. I shake to my core, not only because of the fear that blankets my skin but the heat in his eyes that makes my own temperature rise.

โ€œAdrian. . .โ€ his name nothing but a caress on my lips.

I try not to flinch when his hand slams against the wall beside my head, those eyes growing brighter to a vibrant red, the sound of his fingers scratching the surface of the wall. He leans down until his forehead touches mine, the hand along the wall, sliding down until it rests on my shoulderโ€” gracing the mark on my neck.

A shiver of pure heat scorches a path down my spine as he cups the side of my face, the pad of his thumb rubbing circles on my cheek.

โ€œSay it again,โ€ he growls.

My eyebrows twitch, restraining myself not to frown, the confusion clear on my face.

His fingers sink further into my cheek. โ€œMy name.โ€

His lips collided with mine.

My sentence falls short onto his lips, my eyes widening in shock, staring straight into Adrianโ€™s eyes as he gauges my expression. This wasnโ€™t a gentle, soothing kiss that girls swoon over in movies and tv shows, this was raw and aggressive one that speaks volumes and sends my nerves in a never-ending havoc.

He holds me tightly against him, his hand moving to the nape of my neck while stepping closer โ€™til there was no space left between us. Those red eyes stare me down the same moment a prick of pain zaps at my bottom lip, I gasp, giving him the action to glide his tongue into my mouth.

My eyes nearly cross at the pleasure that slowly consumes my system, just the act of him deepening the kiss and stroking his tongue against mine had my mind going blank to the point my walls crash down. My eyes shut as I kiss him back with a force I didnโ€™t know I possessed, my arms coming up and wrapping around his neck.

We soon became drowned in our lust for one another, hands frantic to feel and touch while steadily being engulfed by the flames of our passion. I couldnโ€™t breathe yet with each harsh inhale and exhale of Adrianโ€™s scent, my lungs were restored.

Abruptly, it all ended as Adrian steps back, my eyes snapping open. He stood a couple of feet away, his red eyes glaring into mine, his fangs visible and peeking through his lips.

โ€œWha. .?โ€ I was breathless and out of breath, trying to regain what I lost, my body still in the throes of heat.

โ€œYour nose is bleeding.โ€

That was all it took for ice cold water to be thrown over my senses, snapping me out of the haze I fell under, my emotions coming to the frontier, regret as strong as the others. My hand comes up, touching under my nose and pulling back to indeed see the red coating my fingertips.

โ€˜Shit. It wonโ€™t stop.โ€™

โ€œYou need help,โ€ Adrian voices.

My eyes flicker up, meeting his gaze head-on as he looks into my unguarded eyes for the first time.

โ€œIโ€™m fine,โ€ I respond, looking away, the walls coming back to guard whatโ€™s left of me.

โ€œNo youโ€™re not, you need help and especially you need to tellโ€”โ€

โ€œLook,โ€ I cut him off, shifting my eyes back to him and stepping back from the wall while wiping my nose. โ€œI appreciate your concern for me, but Iโ€™m fine and always have been. Iโ€™ll tell her when Iโ€™m ready.โ€

โ€œHere is what youโ€™re not understanding, Madelaine, you are not fine, so stop telling yourself that,โ€ he hisses, stepping towards me. โ€œI have tasted your condition on my tongue, bitter and disgusting.โ€

I flinch but keep my gaze locked with his, โ€œBy the time you are ready, you will be on your death-bed, or either, dead. And I wonโ€™t let that happen, she also deserves to know.โ€
