Chapter 13

| Nathalia |

“You are my mate.”

I hiccuped. I used to have that habit when someone caught me lying. It turned out, I still do.

“How?” He was incredulous, a hint of accusation in his voice.

I was speechless. My body was still tingling from his touch and all I wanted to do was continue what we were doing and not explain myself. Why must everything be so complicated?

It was also not helping that my wolf was going wild in my head. She was ecstatic that I finally revealed her to her mate - our mate. The mate pull came to me like explosion-my nerves were on fire and my want for him intensified.

“You!” I recoiled at his sudden outburst. “You are never going back to this place again!”

“What?” I asked, bewildered.

He made one look at my exposed midriff before he removed his shirt and slip it to my head, forcing my arms to go into the holes. I was too dumbstruck by his action that not a single protest came from my lips. And besides, who would complain if this gorgeous hunk of a man was now half-naked in front of me. My fingers itched to touch his pectorals and rock hard abs, and I would give anything to be in his arms again.

He smirked with amusement when he felt my full-blown arousal. My scent must have tripled now that my wolf was free.

“Lia?” It was Jake and he was looking for me. The light in the alleyway was dim so he could only see our shadows.

Theo growled. He grabbed my arm and pulled me to the parking lot. We went straight to his Maserati and he shoved me into the passenger’s seat before slamming the door.

When rational thinking came back to me, I grasped Theo’s arm when he started the engine. “Theo! I can’t leave our car. Cassy would be mad at me. And my things are still there.”

He grunted. “I’ll have someone pick them up.”

His tone told me not to contradict him anymore. I noticed that he was gripping the wheels tightly, his jaw was clenched, and his eyes were blazing with fury.

I sank into my chair and bit my lip. I never imagined that I would get caught. And how I got caught-damn-how embarrassing! But still, I wouldn’t have it any other way. His kisses, his touch, everything was perfect. I blushed when I felt that familiar ache in between my legs. I looked away and curled my toes.

God damn pheromones! I blasted the aircon when I couldn’t take it anymore. Why must wolves be so fucking horny! I breathed and summoned my magic, imagining the reins closing in my wolf once again. With her gone, maybe I could control my amplifying lust. She whimpered but I stayed in focus.

“Don’t.” He growled menacingly. I looked at him with desperation, pleading him to let me leash my wolf. Can’t he see I’m agonizing in here? He must have been feeling it too because our mate pull was so strong, all these emotions I’m feeling like now was suffocating me.

“No.” It was an Alpha’s order and my wolf was obliged to submit- I was compelled to submit. Gritting my teeth, I freed my wolf completely.

One of his hands left the wheel and he touched me, this time slipping further inside the fabric. I gasped.

I stared at him and he was still focused on the road, his jaw still clenched, the muscles of his neck bulging.

He began moving his fingers. My legs seemed to have a mind of its own for it spread itself to give him more access. I arched my back and moaned, enjoying the feel of his touch on my flesh. My hands reached for the headrest for support and I shivered when his strokes became steady and faster, applying just the right amount of pressure. I closed my eyes and panted, feeling everything all at once. He was bringing me to a height that I’ve never reached before.

I moaned his name over and over again until I achieved my release. Panting and flushed, I straightened my back when he removed his hand from my leggings, his fingers wet with my arousal.

I knew I would curse myself for acting like a natural born slut later. But God help me it was a nerve-wracking experience.

The next minutes of the drive were spent in silence. I was too embarrassed to say anything. Heck, I was too satisfied and spent to do anything. I wanted to smile but he was so serious so I struggled to remain neutral. I was still salivating by his nakedness by the way.

He maneuvered the car to a familiar forest, the road getting more narrow and the trees becoming thicker. This was the same place where we first met, I thought bitterly.

An expansive ominous manor came into view. A watchtower was located beside the enormous metal gates where three werewolves were standing guard. The gates automatically opened when we began our approach.

A round-about cobblestone driveway greeted us and the werewolf statue in the middle with an impressive fountain display caught my attention.

He stopped the car in front of the grand entrance and I saw the familiar handsome dark-skinned werewolf that was always sticking by Theo’s side. I could only assume that he was his beta. I breathed and tried suppressing my wolf once again. He glanced at me but he did not say a word. He watched and felt as my wolf disappeared making me seem like a full-blooded Ilwani once again. He clenched his jaw and went out of the car, slamming the door behind him.

I was about to open my side of the door but Theo beat me to it. He grabbed my arm and pulled me harshly.

“Hey!” I protested.

Theo threw his car key to his beta then proceeded on dragging me inside the house. I did not have time to appreciate the luxuriousness of his home because he was pulling me along the stairs until we reached what seemed to be his bedroom.

My mind went into hyperdrive and dirty thoughts started flowing in all the lobes of my brain. Oh, My God.

He let go of my hand and went straight to a small mini bar and pulled a drink for himself. He then grabbed a water container and filled a glass before coming back to me.

“Drink,” he ordered.

I gladly accepted the glass and finished it in three gulps. Apparently, I was thirsty. “Thank you,” I muttered.

He disappeared into an adjoining room and came back in a new white shirt. I was kind of disappointed, to say the least. He sat down on one of the sofas and scrutinized me with displeasure.

I awkwardly sat on the sofa in front of him and placed the glass that I was holding on the round table between us. I could almost hear the sound of crickets, the sound of silence getting too uncomfortable.

“So, um...” I began, not quite meeting his eyes.

“Start by explaining what you are.” He commanded, his voice authoritative and cold.

That’s when I felt like I was hit with a rock and I remembered Cassy, Lana and our cause. The Prince was my mate but it doesn’t mean that I could trust him. He was still a stranger for all I know. A stranger whom I allowed to touch me so intimately.

Terrified for my twin and my friend, I shove the table away and knelt in front of him. “Please, don’t tell anyone. If you do, they’re going to kill me and my twin. If... If you care for me at all, you will keep this a secret.” I clasped his hand and squeezed, mine trembling in fear.

He sighed and stood, pulling me up with him. “Never ever kneel again. Not to me and not to anyone else.” His expression softened. Stepping closer, he cupped my face softly, tracing my jawline and my lips.

“You are my mate. I will choose you above all and I will protect you with my life. Do you understand that?” His words were beautiful but I was having trouble accepting them. I’ve built my walls so high that it will take more than this to give him my trust.

“My father was Lupus, my mother was Ilwani,” I explained instead, stepping away from his touch. Somehow, I could accept sensual touches but loving gestures seemed to burn and sting.

Thankfully, he stayed on his spot. “They told us that it’s impossible to have a child with opposite races,” He murmured.

I shook my head. “It was not entirely impossible. Why do you think they made the law? They were afraid of freaks like us. I don’t know the exact reason but I think it’s connected to the third Oracle’s prophecy.”

“Prophecy?” He asked. I forgot that all copies of the third oracle’s journal were burned except for Lana’s. It was obviously not taught in Mesina so Theo has no idea what I was talking about.

“Yes. Something along the line of hybrids like us will be born and we will...” I paused and debated whether to tell him everything. “...live like everybody else.”

I could tell that he knew that I was keeping more from him but he did not press further. I was grateful for that.

He went for another drink and gave me another glass of water. I scoffed. “Why do you get to drink alcohol and I only have water?”

He gave me a pointed look. “Because I don’t want you drunk.”

“Why? Afraid I might jump you?” I teased.

He smirked. “No. Afraid I might not be able to control myself.”

Then don’t, I almost said but I kept my mouth shut.

He observed me for a while then his expression turned grave. Just a little more and I will diagnose this mate of mine with Bipolar Disorder. “You are not coming back to that club anymore.”

So we’re coming back to this.

I pursed my lips and scowled. “Why not?”

He suddenly paced the room and I got dizzy from following him with my eyes. “I will kill that human who touched you!”

I flinched when he kicked the innocent drawer, totally wrecking it in the process. His beta will surely have a headache tomorrow.

Honestly, this was amusing to watch.

“Don’t you dare treat this as a joke, Nathalia!” He threatened. “If you go back there, I will destroy that whole club.”

I crossed my arms and weighed my words before speaking. “I need to make money Theo,” I said simply.

“Why?” He asked as if it was the most ludicrous thing in the world.

“Why?” I returned the question with exasperation. “Because I’m a freaking orphan, Theo. I’m not like you! I provide for myself. After the academy, where do you think I will be? I will return to the streets!” Not before I kill those sons of bitches who killed our parents first, I thought grudgingly.

“What?” He looked as if I slapped him. I then realized the implications of my words. “You will not return to wherever. You will stay by my side and I will provide for the two of us.” I could only smile bitterly at his naivety.

“With what? Your father’s money? The donations every pack in the world send to your kingdom? There will be no us, Theo.” I looked up to stop the tears from flowing. “The world knows I’m an Ilwani. And you, you’re a fucking Prince for god sake.” My voice broke and I turned my back on him to wipe my stubborn tears.

Fuck you eyes, stop leaking! God damn it!

I felt his warmth on my back and his arms wrapped me in a tight embrace. Oh God, he was making this harder. He gently moved my hair aside and placed a light kiss on my nape before burying his face in the crook of my neck.

I sobbed and closed my eyes. I hated feeling this kind of vulnerability.

“It’s alright, baby. We’ll find a way.” He slowly turned me to face him and lightly bumped his forehead with mine. My heels proved really efficient because we’re nearly the same height right now. He wiped my tears with his thumbs.

“You should rest. You can use the shower and wear my clothes.” He placed a kiss on my forehead before leaving me alone in his room.

When I heard the door close, I went to the king-size bed and collapsed there, my body bouncing with the mattress.

I stared at the ceiling and sighed.

Luna, Ilwa, what should I do now?

| Nathalia |

I woke up to my twin’s screaming voice inside my head.

Nathalia Hague, where are you?!

I groaned and checked my phone for the time. It was still 6 am and our classes start at 9, I’ve still got a lot of time.

I wanted to sleep more. The bed was super comfortable, with the kind of sheets that makes you want to be a sushi and wrap yourself around it and stay in bed forever.

I touched the side of the bed that was empty. I frowned when it felt a little warm so I lowered my nose to the sheets and sniffed. Theo’s smell lingered and it was fresh like he just slept on it.

I sat straight and gripped my hair with my hands. Images of the last night’s events came back to me like multiple slaps on my face.

The back alley... The car... The backhug... When he came back to the room to sleep beside me and we snuggled and spooned... Oh, my...

I’m Fine. I rolled my eyes at my twin’s frenzy.

Where. Are. You.

I will tell you everything later.

You better.

The smell of fresh-baked bread, bacon, and eggs filled the room and Theo came in carrying a tray of the said food with two cups of coffee.

Breakfast in bed. Sweet.

He placed the tray in front of me and took one of the coffee.

“Hey,” His voice was so silky and husky that it seemed like ‘Hey can we continue what we were doing last night’ kind of voice.

“Hey.” I felt like pinching myself for replying in the same husky tone.

“I’ve brought you food. Figured you’d be hungry by now.” He leaned forward and fixed my loose strand of hair to the back of my ear, his eyes roaming my face.

My heart fluttered. I was prepared for accusations and some screaming that his gentleness caught me unawares.

I took the bread and spread a little butter on it before taking a bite. Mmm. This was one perfectly baked bread!

I broke the bread in two and gave him the other half. “You eat too.”

He took the bread from me and bit, chewing the bread like he was in some freaking bread commercial.

I bit my lower lip and wished that I was the bread instead.

He chuckled, the sound low and baritone and absolutely panty melting.

“Baby, start eating or I’ll feed you.”

I grabbed the utensils but hesitated whether to allow him to feed me instead.

Sighing and scolding myself for being such a flirt, I started eating. I was feeling self-conscious about him watching me eat but my motto was food above all so I ate everything without pretense.

“Can I have some water please?” I asked him after swallowing the last bite.

Amused, he got off the chair and went to the mini bar to get me water. I blushed when my fingers touched his upon receiving the glass. He looked at me with a fleeting smile tugging on his lips. He was clearly enjoying his effect on me.

This was too much! I couldn’t hide anything from him. I felt like a silly teenager having a major crush on someone. Well, I am a teenager.

I burped loudly. “Oops. Sorry.” I smiled cheekily.

He flashed me a killer smile before joining me on the bed and pulling me into a hug, my face buried in his chest. I closed my eyes and breathed in his scent. He hugged me for a full minute before letting go and kissing me softly on my forehead, my nose, then my lips.

“I’m glad I finally found you,” he whispered.

Somebody knocked on the door causing him to stop what he was doing. I groaned, he chuckled.

He went to the door and came back with two paper bags in his hand. “Here are your things from the club,” he raised the bag on his left hand. “And here are some of my sister’s clothes,” he motioned to the bag on his right. “You can change with them for today. Also, your car is already downstairs. But I can take you back to the Ilwani dorm if you like.” He offered.

“No! Cassy will be mad at me if I leave the car here. It’s fine. I can drive myself.” I assured him.

“Alright, I’ll wait for you downstairs then.”

I waited for him to close the door behind him before I buried my head into one of the pillows and squealed. I was grinning from ear to ear. I felt so light and giddy, my heart was doing its happy dance and it was all because of Theo.

Still with a ridiculous smile on my face, I went for a quick shower and brushed my teeth. Grabbing my makeup kit from my things, I applied a light mascara and a nude lipstick before going out of his massive bathroom.

His bedroom was like a dream bedroom for me, one that I only see in interior design websites and magazines. If we end up together, I could live comfortably like this too. But sadly, our fate with each other was still unwritten. It’s either we live separately or we die together.

It’s funny how werewolves mating was said to be pretty simple-you look into each other’s eyes, find out you’re mates, then you live happily ever after. It’s too bad that there’s no How to Move On From Your Mate if You’re Not The Same Race 101 handbook.

I emptied all the contents of the bag with the clothes of Theo’s sister. Everything was designer, of course. I wonder what his sisters looked like, and which one owned these.

There were pants, skirts, shirts, and sweatshirts. A new set of underwear was also included. The bra was a cup bigger than mine so I decided to repeat what I had yesterday.

As for the clothes, I smiled to myself and decided to wear a white skater skirt that was showing a lot of my thighs and legs and a striped black and white sweatshirt. I completed the look with my white sneakers that was gratefully included in my things, compliments to my mate.

After tying my hair into a high ponytail, I fixed the bed and put back the clothes that I didn’t pick inside the paper bag. Satisfied that everything was tidy, I went out of the room with my personal things on hand.

I descended the stairs with the feeling of walking on air. My smile remained plastered on my face.

Theo, however, looked up from his phone with a scowl. He was eyeing my skirt with great displeasure.

“Was that in the bag that I gave you?” He asked, still frowning.

“Yes. It’s nice isn’t it?” I gave him a little twirl. When he kept on frowning, I went to him and poked the area where his eyebrows met. I tiptoed and smoothed his eyebrows for him. I smiled when he stopped frowning so as a reward, I grabbed his face and gave him one quick peck on the lips.

He shook his head at me. “You’re still not wearing that, babe. Change, please.” I bit my lip. I was tingling from his use of endearments like we’ve been together for a long time already.

“No?” He asked as if the word was foreign to him.

I smirked and ran out of the house, correction, nearly ran out of the house. He caught my arm and next thing I knew he was carrying me bridal style back to his bedroom.

He dropped me unceremoniously on the bed before grabbing the bag again and emptied the contents. He took the pants and waved it in front of me.

“You’re changing to this.”

“I said no.” I pouted. “I like this skirt.”

He looked upward as if trying to control himself. When his gaze came back to me, he was wearing a mischievous smile. “Then we’re not leaving here.”

He pounced me on the bed and started tickling me in different places.

“No! Stop! Stop!” I screamed and laughed at the same time. How did he know I was ticklish?!

He continued his attacks so I surrendered when I couldn’t take it anymore. “Fine fine! I’m changing.”

He grinned in satisfaction, finally releasing me.

“Jeez. I can’t win, can I?” I complained.

He hugged my back. “You can. But not in this. Go on, I’ll wait for you here.”

Grudgingly, I took the pants and went back to his bathroom. The length was a little bit longer so I used some magic to adjust it perfectly.

I went out of the bathroom and scowled at Theo. He scowled back. “Does that not seem tight?”

“Oh hell no. I’m not changing again!” I warned him, my eyes blinking rapidly

He shrugged. “That’s better I suppose. Come on.” He held my hand and we went down the stairs together.

I couldn’t believe that this was happening. It seemed so fast and surreal.

I know this was normal to werewolves because of the mate bond and I’m not exactly complaining but what are we now exactly?

I lingered on my car door before turning back to him. I needed to set this straight, whatever this is.

“Hey, Theo,” I said, hoping my expression was serious and business-like.

“Yes?” He tilted his head and studied me.

“This is just a fling, alright?” A lump was forming in my throat but I remained firm. “You and I, we can’t be together together. You know what I mean?” I suddenly remembered Lana and her mysterious man. “Well, I guess we could fool around for a while...” I paused and assessed his reaction. He was clenching and unclenching his jaw, he seemed to have something to say but he was letting me finish.

I cleared my throat before I continued. “Yeah, we could do that, sneak around, act like lovesick teenagers...” I chuckled awkwardly. “But we must set boundaries, okay? We should ignore each other at the academy. Keep this a secret between the two of us.” I pointed at myself and him.

“Yeah?” I smiled to show him that I was sincere.

He closed his eyes and released a harsh breath. Closing the distance between us, he squeezed me into a hug then buried his nose in the crook of my neck. He was inhaling my scent repeatedly and I allowed him, placing my hand on the back of his head.

When he finally let go, he looked like a kid that had his candy stolen from him. He looked broken and sad. “Fine. If that’s what you want.”
