Chapter 7

Be careful

Cassy was able to mind-link me, maybe hiding somewhere. Probably inside a toilet.

I took the car. I’ll take a different forest.

I went somewhere farther. There’s another part of the forest that was not claimed by any pack but it’s quite far from Mesina, about two towns away, unlike Theo’s territory which was more accessible.

I noticed a yellow vehicle tailing me.

I parked somewhere inconspicuously. The vehicle that was following parked not too far away from me, confirming my suspicion. Three werewolves came out the car.

Hmm. Interesting.

I entered a large grocery store. True enough, they followed me inside. It’s funny how they tried to be discreet about it, making a show of getting a cart and looking at various items. Too bad they’re all males though.

I went into the female restroom, zapped my current clothes to a different attire, changing it to a hoodie and jeans. Pulling my hood down to my face, I went out of the restroom whistling to myself.

After making sure that I lost them, I started running into the nearby forest. I swore to myself that I’m just gonna be in and out, only letting my wolf run for a while then I’m coming back to the dorms.

I know it’s bad to cut classes but when I get emotional, I couldn’t control my wolf and if other Lupus sense her, me and my twin are doomed.

My wolf was screaming into my head to let her out so I shifted, feeling the familiar twisting of my bones restructuring themselves. It’s true that the first shift was intense and painful but as you get used to it, it’s a piece of cake and only took a minute or less.

I began running, enjoying the feeling of the wind and the peacefulness of the forest.

When we lost our parents, I felt cheated in life. Like somebody took a piece of my heart.

When I met my mate, I felt like somebody gave it back. Completing me once again.

But no matter how much I wanted him, no matter how much I craved for his touch, I couldn’t reveal who I really am.

And oh how much I wanted him. I wanted to smother him in my embrace, comb my fingers through his long hair, and pepper him with my kisses.

But we don’t always get what we want, don’t we?

I halted when unfamiliar wolves appeared. They were looking at me but were not showing any signs of aggression. I realized I was too near to another pack’s territory so I took another route, not risking an attack from territorial wolves. Thankfully, they didn’t follow me.

When I reached a clearing, I slowed down to appreciate the view. I approached the stream and dropped my head to taste the water. My senses told me it’s safe so I eagerly drank my fill. I paused when a mixture of chocolate cosmos and gardenia assaulted my sense of smell—that was my mate’s scent.

“I’ve been looking all over for you.”

How he found me that fast was a mystery to me.

My insides melted. His happiness upon finding me tugged at my heartstrings. Relief etched in his eyes. My wolf purred. She was ecstatic.

Who am I to deny her this happiness?

I sauntered towards him and his eyes followed me every second, never letting me out of his sight.

I rubbed my muzzle on his leg. He crouched on the ground and pulled me into a tight hug. I licked his face and wagged my tail. He chuckled, though his voice broke. I couldn’t see him because he buried his face in my fur but I felt my fur dampen and realized he was crying. I licked the side of his face to tell him it’s alright, I’m here.

We stayed in that position for a few minutes. My wolf letting him hug me and him silently relieving his tears. I didn’t know the wolf prince was a crybaby. Too bad I couldn’t tease him about it.

“Who are you? Where did you come from? Why are you a rogue?” He whispered to me, still holding me in his arms.

My wolf could only whimper in response.

“Is there something wrong?” He released me and inspected all of me, probably for any signs of injury. He checked my head, my body, my legs and my paws. He was touching me all over and my body was tingling with his touch, making my temperature rise significantly.

Oh boy.

He smirked and ruffled my head. “You naughty girl.”

Thank Goddess a wolf can’t blush!

“So you won’t shift huh,” he told me, his eyebrow arched high. “Are you ugly my mate?” he teased.

I answered with a playful growl.

“Whatever you look like, I will still love you,” he stroked my muzzle lovingly.

“Please... Shift for me. Let me know who you are.” The wolf prince was begging, his eyes filled with desperation.

I couldn’t. I won’t. My wolf whined.

“Okay, okay. Shhh.” Theo stroked my fur again. “Then, shall we spend the rest of the day together?”

My wolf tilted her head, asking what he meant.

“Run mate, I’ll chase you.” He stepped back from me and shifted to his much larger grey wolf.

You see, wolves literally love the thrill of the chase. Especially with their mates. It’s sexy and romantic and incredibly arousing.

I felt giddy and happy so I started to run, speeding up, providing him with an unvoiced challenge. His wolf remained on my trail but he’s controlling his speed, allowing me to lead.

We entered another territory so he sped up until he was at my side. Patrol wolves appeared but when they realized it was my mate, who apparently was the prince, they stayed back. He rubbed his maw on my body urging me to run again, so I did.

We chased each other through the thick forest, pressing our heads together, nuzzling, cuddling, and licking. It was starting to get dark when I realized we reached his territory.

Fudge, we went so far. Cassy will definitely berate me for leaving the car in the middle of nowhere.

I nuzzled my head on his neck one last time before I drew back. I used my claws to write in the mud.

STOP.

I locked my eyes with his, green on blue, pleading him to cease following me.

He seemed to have understood. He whimpered slightly but he stayed put.

With a heavy heart, I ran away from him. Nearing the highway, I shifted and I pressed the hood of my jacket down to my face.

I waited for a bus to arrive. After waiting for at least ten minutes, a bus stopped in front of me and I entered it with a bitter smile on my face.

Safely inside, I sent a text to Cassy telling her that I would be going to my gig tonight. We still need to save money for contingency, just in case we need to run again in the future.

I reached the parking lot where I left our car. I clicked the car key to open my door but before getting in, I caught a sniff of other werewolves.

Great. I admire their patience for waiting that long.

I shrugged it off and got inside. I said a little prayer before starting the engine. Before I accidentally hit a cat and it died, sending me into PTSD for a month.

I glanced in my rearview mirror and noticed that the werewolves were still following me.

I smirked. Oh well, they’re going to have the time of their lives. Hooray for more customers.

It took me an hour drive to reach the human bar that I do part-time gigs. Neon lights adorned the entrance and the music blared when I opened the door.

I caught a glimpse of the yellow vehicle parking. Bravo for Theo for having werewolves follow me. That’s some clever move on his part. Too bad they’re amateurs. I’ve been used to looking behind my shoulders for the past six years, there’s no way they could follow me if I don’t allow it.

“Hey, Jake. Still, have free slots for me?” I rested my elbows on the bar and smiled at the handsome bartender. He used to have a thing for me before, courting me with small gifts and attractive words. But I wasn’t looking for anything serious so I had no choice but to turn him down. Good thing he took it like a champ.

“Oi, you’re back. Haven’t seen you for a while.” He leaned forward and hugged me. “I missed you, Lia!” I chuckled and returned his embrace.

“Missed you too Jake. I just got a little busy with school. How you’ve been?” I asked, smiling.

“Good good. Yeah, you’ve mentioned before that you’re transferring. I thought you were just joking.” He laughed. “Listen, the band is about to finish and all night is free. I’m sure Oscar can squeeze you in.”

“Thanks, Jake. I’ll go find Oscar.” Oscar was the owner of the bar and I’m pretty close to him since he loves having me around because of the increase in customers during nights that I perform.

“Sure babe. Anything for you.”

Grinning, I went into the backstage area and I found Oscar talking to someone.

“Scar!” I greeted him with delight.

“Lia!” He squealed, he left his company and kissed me on both cheeks. Yep, he’s gay and he’s amazing. “Goddamnit girl, where have you been?”

“Oh, busy with school. You know.” I smiled shyly, noticing his male companion checking me out.

“Oh, this is Andrew. He’s a performer too just like you.” Oscar introduced us. I smiled at him politely and shook his hand.

“So can I go after the band, Scar? I’m kind of running low.” I said.

“Sure sure! My pleasure, Lia. Go to the dressing room and get ready.” He patted my cheek and went outside, Andrew following him.

I went to the dressing room and changed to a red tube top and skimpy black shorts revealing my long legs that I’m quite proud of. My breasts may not be that big but I’m content with them, at least they’re not heavy. Screw my mate for thinking otherwise.

Ah, there I go again, thinking about him.

I shook my head, I need to focus on this first. I let my long hair loose and I applied heavy make-up.

I stared at myself in the big mirror. I’ve been doing this gig for the past two years and every time I wore sexy clothes and changed my face to this, I still feel like I’m a different girl. Someone who’s more confident and who does this kind of job to live by.

Don’t get me wrong. I love singing, dancing, and performing for a large crowd. Sometimes, it just gets to me. The what-ifs in life.

When Oscar called me that I’m up, I sighed and put out a big smile in the mirror. I pumped myself up and did some vocal exercises.

Cheer up, girl!

You have a show to rock.
