Chapter 20

Halfway through the movie I got up to grab a drink from the kitchen. I found a root beer in the fridge. My favourite. After getting it out of the fridge, and shutting the door, I walked back into the lounge room.

Almost all the girls were huddled up against a guy, except for Kalama or Pele. They were leaning against each other, and both had a really freaked out facial expression. I looked at the movie, and saw that it was almost at a really scary jump scare. A devious thought entered my mind, and I set down my pop on a random table at the side of the room. I then crept up behind Kalama, and Pele, waiting for the jump scare. Just as it happened I slammed down a hand on one of Pele’s and Kalama’s shoulders, whispering “Boo,” in there ear.

They both jumped five feet away from each other, off the couch, and screamed so loud that the whole room screamed, and someone paused the movie.

Now, I don’t usually laugh, like, at all, but the look on everyone’s faces made me burst with laughter. I was laughing so hard I was almost crying. I saw Kalama give me a mock mad face, but eventually started laughing with me, and so did the rest of the room. Except Pele, but she did have smile on her face.

Eventually everyone stopped laughing, and turned towards the doorway which had a mysterious figure in the middle of it. It was also raining outside. Then I realized that Storm was the one standing in the doorway, so I put my hand up in a mock wave, pulling my face together into my usual facial expression.

“Hey, Storm,” I said noticing that he was dripping onto the floor from being out in the rain, “Finally find me?” He stepped into the dim light, and he was obviously furious. “I’ve got to go guys, but we’ll hang out another time.” I turned back to wave bye, and left with Storm on my tail.

I walked out into the pouring rain, not even caring the I was already soaked through within seconds. Storm was close behind me, and once we were just outside our bedroom, away from prying eyes, Storm grabbed my shoulder, spinning me around to face him.

I jerked out of his hold, snarling, “Don’t touch me.”

“Where the hell have you been?” Storm asked. “It’s almost twelve.”

“I was watching a horror movie with Kalama, and her friends,” I said, “and you’re not the keeper of me, you don’t get to tell me what to do, or any of that. So next time I don’t show up, don’t come looking for me, I can handle myself. Idiot.” I had turned around and was walking towards my room.

I whispered the last part to myself, but he must have heard me because he spun me around and slammed me against the wall, pinning me with his body. “Don’t ever call me an idiot. I looked for you because… because…”

“Why did you come looking for me?” I asked. My voice came out strong, but I had to keep fighting against the feel of his hard body against mine.

He looked lost, like he didn’t know why he went after me. “I..I don’t know.”

He shifted his weight backwards, shifting so that he wasn’t completely crushing me. My eyes flickered to his lips, his flickering to mine.

After a few minutes of contemplating whether I should or not I thought, Fuck it. I spun us around so I was pinning him against the wall. I literally smashed my lips onto his. It hurt a bit at first, but I lightened up my touch.

I almost moaned out loud when he dragged his hand through my hair, getting it out of the ponytail I had had it in. I ran my hands through his hair, pushing my body against his, trying to make it so that there wasn’t any air between us. His other hand ran down my side, to the hem of my shirt and under it. I shivered at his touch.

Then I pushed away from him, and swiftly turned around to walk back into my room, absolutely breathless. I didn’t look back at him. I didn’t have the courage to.

When my door was closed I leaned against it, and slid down to the floor. I touched my lips absentmindedly. Fuck. What had I done? I had kissed him.

I shook my head, telling myself to forget it, and headed to my bed. I also decided I wouldn’t have a shower tonight.

I felt the calm that came with being alone. With being by myself.

Then I felt the slight twinge of panic when I heard the bathroom door slam open. I looked over to see Chloe, and her clique entering the bathroom. I was so afraid that I froze.

“Well hello, sister killer,” she sneered at me. “Finally ready to die, bitch?”

I was so confused that I didn’t notice the girl move from beside her to grab something from the bathroom.

One moment Chloe’s in my face, the next she’s heading out of the bathroom, locking the door behind her. Locking me in.

I go over to the door, panicking at the thought of being locked in here. In this small space. I finally got the door unlocked. Still panicking.

Then I heard the sound of an explosion, and searing heat as I quickly jerked the door open, falling out of the bathroom, the heat right behind me. All I felt was searing pain, and fear.

Then I lost consciousness.

I jerked up from the bed, a cold sweat covering my body. I looked at the time, and saw that it had been about an hour since I had fallen asleep. Then a familiar craving hit me. One that always chased me around when these dreams wake me up.

I got up out of my bed, and started looking for them, even though I knew they weren’t here. I looked, and looked until I stumbled upon something. Only it wasn’t what I had been initially looking for.

It was the note the Darkling had given me during the fight. The one I had hidden before I collapsed onto the bed.

I took it out of its hiding place, and opened it. I hadn’t actually read what the note said when I first got it.

It said ’I’m coming for you, my little darling. I can’t wait to see how much you’ve grown up since I gave birth to you. You must take after me for your powers, since I am the strongest Ignisa to ever live. Anyway, I hope you’ve had a lovely time in that corrupted place, but I really can’t wait to see you fighting alongside me. Hope to see you soon darling, your dearest mom.’

What the hell?
