-Nightmare on Elm Street-
Though he was sure it was later in the afternoon, the room was still pretty dark when Dominic’s eyes finally fluttered open. Slowly turning his head to the side, a small smile upturned his lips at the sight of his mate laying close by. With her curls strewn about the pillows, Dominic thought she looked peaceful as soft whimpers escaped her.
Sitting up, Dominic swung his long legs over the side of the bed before pulling on his boxers. At what seemed to have become their tradition, Dominic, along with Hailee’s clothes for that matter, had been discarded shortly after his arrival. As his large frame staggered sleepily over to the bathroom, his stomach growled with ferocity. But first things first-- and nature called.
Surprising even himself, Dominic actually remembered to lift the lid before beginning to relieve himself. Target acquired, his head rolled back and a sigh escaped him in satisfaction. He was just about to start ‘the shake’, when there was a loud thud behind him.
“You alright in there, Hale?” Dominic shouted behind him. It sounded like Hailee had fallen out of the bed. When she didn’t answer right away, Dominic rushed over to the sink.
“Hailee?” He called out again as he impatiently turned the knobs on the faucet.
Spewing nothing but air, Dominic huffed in frustration at the plumbing in the old complex. The pipes shook for a good minute and when warm water finally did begin to flow out of the fixture, it was tinted with an ugly rust color and the smell was of something putrid. The officer pulled back with a snarl in disgust, but it was too late, his hands had been coated with rust. As he brought them up to his face, he inspected the sticky and slick, dark crimson sediment smeared across his palms. His eyebrows scrunched together, but he didn’t really think much of it as he placed his hands back under the now clear running water. However, Dominic soon found that no matter how hard he scrubbed, he just couldn’t get his hands clean.
“Hailee?” With a panicked expression, Dominic looked up into the mirror hanging above the sink. He startled a little as a dark blur suddenly moved over his shoulder.
Hands forgotten, the hulking officer spun around. As he walked back into the room, the towering figure in the corner gave him a sadistic smile before turning it’s glowing eyes towards the bed. Dominic tried to move, but it was as though he was paralyzed with fear as the monster crawled towards his mate. The bed creaked from the weight of the enormous creature while it’s large jowls dripped a thick and foamy saliva. With a low rumble from it’s chest the thing bent over Hailee, pressing his snout into the crook of her neck. As the beast lifted her into it’s hairy arms, it inhaled sharply before slowly dragging the sheet from her body. Goose pimples broke out across her naked flesh and almost immediately Hailee’s nipples grew erect.
Dominic seethed as he watched the monster’s tongue flick one of her breast’s. With a fit of rage he tried to move forward, but his legs had rooted in place like the massive tree trunks they resembled. The gigantic creature laid Hailee back against the mattress moments before morphing into a more human-like figure. As a pair of yellow glowing eyes turned towards Dominic, the off duty cop let out an audible gasp.
The hand of Big Dragon elongated into a monstrous claw and with a flick of his wrist, a grotesque gash appeared along Hailee’s stomach. Dominic tugged at his hair in frustration when all of a sudden, he found himself crouched over Hailee. Big Dragon was gone and what appeared to be his beloved’s intestines laid loosely in his own hands. No one else had ever been there, it had been Dominic all along. He was the monster. He had killed Hailee.
Looking down at his blood covered hands, Dominic screamed.
“Dominic! Come on baby, you need to wake up.”
Arms flailing in the air, the large man bolted upwards with a startled cry. It was only once he opened his eyes that he realized he had accidentally shoved Hailee off the bed.
“Oh shit. Oh fuck. Oh shit,” he muttered over and over as he scooped her up from the floor.
“It’s ok.” Hailee offered him a weak smile before looking up at him. “It was just an accident.”
As he gazed down into her beautiful face, a bright red droplet of blood rolled down her cheek.
“Oh god, Hailee. I’m so sorry!” Dominic’s eyes widened as he carried her into the bathroom. Setting her down on the sink, Hailee hopped up to her feet as soon as Dominic turned and scrambled to find a first aid kit. “Seriously?” Dominic’s heart sunk as he unzipped the red bag with the little white cross. “It’s fucking empty,” he exclaimed, tossing it aside.
“That’s because I’ve never really needed it before,” Hailee laughed. “See?”
As she turned away from the mirror, she held her hair out of the way to show Dominic the already healing wound just above one of her perfectly arched eyebrows. Within a few seconds, the flesh had sealed back up entirely and not a scar could be seen. Giving a stiff nod, Dominic turned around and walked back out to the bedroom. He flopped down on the bed, the frame threatening to fall apart under his weight and sighed heavily before covering his head with his hands.
“So, do you want to tell me what this is all about?” Hailee asked.
As she dropped to her knees in front of him, she tugged on Dominic’s arms, forcing him to look down at her.
“Why me?” Dominic shook his head, trying to avoid making contact with her pleading eyes. “Why did you choose to bite me?”
Moving closer, Hailee reached out to stroke his cheek. “I don’t exactly know how the mate bond works, or why it chooses who it does,” she replied honestly. Her smile faltered as she suddenly pulled her arm back.
“I’m sorry for biting you the way I did,” she spoke softly as she folded her hands in her lap. “Unfortunately, I can’t undo the curse. But I’ll completely understand if you don’t want to stay with me.”
Dominic snorted before looking down at her with an expression that said she was crazy. “You bit me woman,” he smirked with a slight shake of his head. “And I’m afraid you’re stuck with me now. Till the ends of eternity-- or however long it is werewolves live,” he quickly added.
“We will have many, many moons together,” Hailee grinned happily. “But you should know,” she paused as she turned serious, poking him hard in the chest. “You will find that normal bullets, stab wounds, and even cancer can’t harm you anymore. But silver? Silver can seriously injure you,” she explained.
“So what are you saying?” Dominic challenged.
“I know this is all new for you,” Hailee answered. “But you need to know, you could never hurt me. We’re stronger together,” she told him. “And in order to stay that way, we need to be open and honest with each other.”
Dominic nodded as he looked down at her thoughtfully. “This morning, before the sun had fully risen there was a man-- or at least I thought he was a man,” Dominic began. “Anyways, when I realized who it was, I sent Doug, my partner, back to the squad car to radio for help. But as the sirens neared, the suspects began to scatter.”
Dominic licked his lips, pausing for a moment as he looked down at Hailee. With a nod, she silently urged him to go on.
“We’ve been chasing this guy for a while now. Chicago’s public enemy number one, and he was right there.” Dominic shook his hands for emphasis as he spoke. “I don’t know what it was, but something about this guy had me all worked up. Every time he got near me, my heart would race. And I could smell him!” Dominic exclaimed. “It was like being inside a candy shop but with a hint of copper. As he drove off, he looked right at me. Actually, it’s hard to explain, but I felt like he was looking through me. Dear god, it sounds crazy as I’m saying it out loud, but I swear Hale, his eyes were glowing yellow.”
“And you dreamt about him this morning, didn’t you?” Hailee asked.
With a nod of his head, Hailee’s spine went rigid as her eyes connected with his own. “His name, Dominic,” she demanded. “What’s his name?”
“I shouldn’t be telling you this,” Dominic shook his head. “But it’s Bojing Long, or better known as--”
“Big Dragon,” Hailee finished for him.
“How did you--” Dominic trailed off as he felt himself actually growing jealous. As her hands reached out for his, they instantly had a calming effect on his inwardly growing rage.
“Listen to me.” The desperation in Hailee’s voice begged him to look down at her. “Vampires, demons, ghosts, witches-- they’re all real. All of them. And the night that I bit you,” Hailee began, “one of Big Dragon’s fledglings was here, looking to get something from me. When I wouldn’t give in, he stabbed me with silver. You pulled the dagger from my side, remember?”
Dominic’s head cocked to the side as he tried to recall exactly what had happened that night. He remembered Doug asking him to pull over so he could take a piss, and he remembered that the windows in the SUV had been rolled down as a late Indian Summer had the night air well past seventy degrees. As he had watched his partner run into the nearest twenty-four hour donut shop, he heard a woman scream and immediately hopped out to investigate. That’s when he had found Hailee laying in the alley near her apartment.
“Big Dragon is a vampire,” Hailee confirmed. “And while I don’t doubt that you are the biggest and strongest werewolf in all of North America right now, Bojing is old. Which means he is much stronger than you or I.”
“Why does him being old matter?” Dominic asked with a confused look.
“Because the older a vampire is, the stronger they grow,” Hailee replied. “A newborn can be staked easily, but an old soul like Big Dragon can only be killed by removing his heart. Holy water, the crucifix, garlic-- it will irritate them but it won’t actually kill them.”
As she placed her fingers inside Dominic’s much larger hand, she gave him a tight squeeze. “I want you to stay away from him, Dom. Please,” she begged. “As werewolves, we eventually grow weaker with age. You remember how I told you that there were six werewolves that I knew of in America?”
“Well, two of them don’t even shift anymore because they’re so old. The same however, can not be said for Bojing. If he wanted to, he could drain all the blood from right out of you if he could stay attached long enough. And I want to grow old with you,” she smiled up at him. “While we’re pretty damn near invincible, they’re are some things that even the curse can’t overcome. Just like Bojing, if you’re heart was removed, you’ll die. Head snapped, spine broken, same thing. Game over. There is no respawn.”
With a nod of his head, Dominic responded. “I get it,” he said.
“Good.” Hailee eyed him warily before moving forward on her knees. As she wrapped her arms around his thick neck, Dominic’s large hands trailed down her sides before coming to rest alongside her bare breasts. “Now how about I go make my big man some dinner before he goes back to work,” she smiled.
Growling, Dominic pulled Hailee into his lap before planting a kiss on her lips. After the nightmare he’d had, there was no way she was getting off so easy. Cupping her ample tits in each one of his hands, Dominic’s head flung back as he groaned loudly with pleasure.
“If you don’t mind, I think I’ll start with dessert first tonight,” he rasped.
