Jason threw me to the floor but I barely noticed, I was too caught up in the sight of Asher. He looked horrible with his black eye, bruised body and exhausted expression.
But somehow he still managed to look like the sexiest guy alive.
“Liza.” he whispered in a broken, raspy voice. I saw guilt and regret written all over his face.
“Ash.” I whispered back, tears welling up in my eyes.
I forgot all about where we were and who we were with. Everything just disappeared and all that was left was Asher and I.
I felt whole again.
I was brought back to reality when the person I hated most spoke “This isn’t some happy reunion you stupid kids.”
Leave it to Jason to point out the obvious.
As if he had heard my thoughts his head snapped around to face me and in the blink of an eye his fist was connecting with my jaw.
I yelped out in pain as the crack of my jaw echoed in the small basement.
Asher let out a deep, deathly growl that made me shiver in fear. He was fighting against his restrains but he was to weak to shift or beak the chains that tied him down.
Only now did I realize that Madison wasn’t smirking like she usually was when I was getting beat. No, this time she was actually cowering away from Jason.
I couldn’t put more thought into Madison’s behaviour because Jason pounced at me and was now on top of me, punching me in the stomach.
My first thought was that he was just trying to hurt me but when he didn’t target any other body part I realized that he was purposely punching only my stomach.
He was trying to kill the baby.
I had mixed emotions about this. On one hand I wanted him to succeed because I didn’t want to carry and deliver a child that was his, but on the other hand, no baby deserves to die. I could easily just put it up for adoption.
“Stop! Get off of her!” Asher kept yelling, but it didn’t do anything. Jason kept beating me until I was on the brink of passing out.
Suddenly he was ripped off of me. At first I though Asher had broken out of his restraints but I was proven wrong when I saw Madison holding Jason down.
“You’re going to kill her!” She yelled as she roughly pushed his shoulders into the bloody cement floor.
“What the hell are you doing Maddison?” Jason yelled right back.
“I’m doing the right thing.” Madison said in a bit of a calmer voice.
While they were arguing I crawled over to Asher and unchained him.
He instantly scrambled out of his chair and onto the ground next to me.
He picked me up and whispered a desperate apology in my ear over and over.
Suddenly there was a loud bang as the chair Asher was just in was thrown across the room by Jason.
I looked over and saw Madison crying and crawling over to the old wooden stairs. She was running away from Jason for once.
But Jason didn’t seem to notice this because he was to busy stalking over to Asher and I.
Naturally Ash put me down and stepped in front of me, ready to protect me with his life.
I looked at Jason again just as a smirk formed on his face. He knew that Asher was weak from being beaten and couldn’t protect himself let alone me.
Even though my stomach was killing me and I could barely stand up I mustered up all the energy I had and pushed it into my hands.
Then I willed the energy out of me and shot it through the air as quick as lightning, and right into Jason.
He was thrown back into the wall by the force and slumped down to the floor in a heap of unconsciousness.
With no more energy in me my legs gave out and I fell to the floor as well.
Slowly all the sound in the room faded away until I couldn’t hear anything. I closed my eyes and the last thing I remember before blacking out was someone tightly gripping my hand.
Beep beep beep.
What is that annoying noise?
Beep beep beep.
Ok someone’s got to turn that thing off.
Beep beep beep.
I opened my mouth to protest against the beeping sound but nothing except muffled stutters came out, my throat felt like sandpaper.
After clearing my throat I tried again
“Will someone turn off the horrible beeping sound? I’m trying to sleep!”
My voice came out hoarse but it was better than before.
I heard someone chuckle and another person let out a long sigh.
I wonder who those people are.
I tried to ignore everything and go back to sleep but curiosity got the best of me and I ended up blinking my eyes opened.
A bright white light shone directly into my eyes and I quickly snapped them shut, hissing in pain.
After a few moments I slowly and cautiously opened my eyes again and let them adjust to the light before looking around.
I was in a room with white walls, white furniture and a white bed that I was currently using.
This isn’t my room. Where am I?
Someone cleared their throat and I snapped my head in their direction. I forgot that I wasn’t the only one in the room.
My eyes landed on Becca, my mom, and finally Asher.
Becca and mom were standing at the foot of my bed while Ash was sitting on a chair right beside my bed.
As I studied him, he grabbed my hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze.
I noticed that he didn’t have a black eye anymore but he still had that exhausted look he wore when I first saw him in Jason’s basement.
He was looking at me but he wouldn’t meet my eyes, he looked really guilty.
“What’s wrong?” I asked him.
His eyes widened in surprise, like he didn’t think I would talk to him. After a few moments he shook his head and muttered “Nothing.” still not meeting my eyes.
I pulled my hand out of his and lifted it to grab his chin and turn his head so his eyes would meet mine. Even then his eyes darted in every direction but mine.
“What did I do to make you hate me so much?” I asked in an unsure and confused tone, dropping my hand from his face.
I tried to think of anything that I could have possibly done to make him hate me so much he wouldn’t even look me in the eyes.
He frantically searched my face, then finally met my eyes. Guilt, regret and confusion were the emotions that stuck out the most.
“What are you talking about Liza? I could never hate you.” he reassured me in a soft voice.
I rolled my eyes “Why are you acting like this then?”
He opened his mouth like he was about to respond but then quickly snapped it shut, changing his mind.
He repeated this a couple more times before he sighed and said “I made an unforgivable mistake.”
Oh no. What did he do this time?
“I sure it’s not that bad.” I tied to reassure him but he quickly shook his head.
“You’re wrong.” He stated and turned away so I couldn’t see his face.
“It couldn’t have been that bad. What did you do?” I asked, grabbing his hand in hope that he would turn back and look at me.
“I abandoned you, I didn’t let you explain, I didn’t trust that you stayed loyal to me and worst of all I put you in danger and almost got you killed!” He listed, starting in a low voice and ending in a voice just below a yell.
I shook my head “This isn’t your fault, I choose to step right into Jason’s trap. I was the stupid one that didn’t tell anyone what was going
I was cut off by Asher rising his hand as if to say enough.
“I don’t want to hear any of that, this isn’t your fault.” he stated in a stern voice, leaving me no room to argue.
I grumpily nodded my head and crossed my arms over my chest childishly.
“You forgot to pout too.” He teased, cracking a half smile.
“I’ve missed you.” I whispered, my eyes brimming with tears but I quickly blinked them away.
Quit being a baby Liza, you’re going to make him feel worse.
“Baby I’ve missed you too. I’m so sorry.” Ash whispered back, his voice cracking.
He brought my hand, that was still clasped in his, up to his lips and kissed it before gently lying it back down on the bed, this time letting go of it.
He stood up and looked down at me with guilt still swimming in his eyes.
“I have to go take care of some business, I’ll be back in a while.” He told me softly before leaving the room without another word.
Why did it feel like he was saying goodbye?
I didn’t have to much time to think that thought through because someone came up beside me and pulled me into a bone crushing hug.
I immediately knew it was Becca when she squealed “I’m so glad you’re okay!”
Next my mom came up to my bedside and brought me into a much gentler hug.
“I was so worried about you. I thought I lost you for good this time.” She whispered in my ear before kissing my cheek and letting go.
I flashed them both a smile and said “Thanks guys, but I’m alrig-”
The door flew open, effectively cutting me off, and Jay rushed in.
“You’re alive!” he exclaimed, running over to me and pulling me into one of his famous bear hugs, or would wolf hug sound better?
“Yes Jay, we’ve already established that.” I told him, rolling my eyes, but I couldn’t keep the amused smile off my face.
Jay might look like the hulk but he’s really a marshmallow on the inside.
“By the look Asher had on his face when he came out of the room, I thought something terrible had happened to you.” Jay explained.
My face twisted in confusion but I nodded like I understood.
I looked at the three people surrounding my bed and smiled for the millionth time since I woke up.
But my smile soon faded when a nagging question popped into my head.
“What happened?” I finally asked.
All three of them looked at me in confusion but after a moment realization crossed over them.
They all looked over at each other like they were having a silent conversation. When Jay nodded my mom and Becca left while Jay sat down on the end of my bed.
“Okay so what do you remember?” Jay asked.
I though for a moment before replying “I got a call from Jason saying that if I didn’t come to his house, he would kill Asher, and he made it clear that if I told anyone, he would kill him.
“So I did as I was told and rushed over to his house without a second thought. When I got there Madison answered the door and ushered me in. Then Jason took over and made me go to the basement with them.
“When we got there I saw Ash all beat up and chained to a chair, Jason said some stuff then started beating me. He tried to kill the baby. I guess he somehow found out that it was his.
“Then out of nowhere Madison fought him off long enough for me to untie Ash, then she ran upstairs. I remember using my powers to take out Jason just before I passed out.”
Jay didn’t say anything throughout my explanation, and when I was done he sat back and took in what I said before he started talking.
“You probably think Madison ran away because she didn’t want to get hurt from Jason right?” He began, pausing for me to nod before he continued.
“Madison was really going to get help. She ran over to the pack house and started begging for someone to come with her. When no one took her serious she explained that you and Ash were in danger. Becca and I rushed over to Jason’s house.
“When we arrived Jason was already unconscious, and Asher was carrying you out the door.”
Jay paused again so I could process what he just told me.
Why did Madison help? What did they do to Jason? And better yet what happened to my baby?
What if my baby didn’t make it?
When I composed myself I asked Jay what they did with Jason.
“We finished him off, you don’t need to worry about him ever again.” He answered.
“You killed him!?” I shouted.
When Jay nodded I felt a weight lift off my shoulder, but at the same time my chest felt tight. Jason was the only parent I ever had, even if he was horrible to me.
I’m glad I don’t have to deal with him anymore but it also hurt that he was dead all because of me.
“It was for the best, don’t feel guilty.” Jay reassured when he caught on to what I was feeling.
I numbly nodded. He’s right.
After a few moment of silence Jay spoke up. “Do you have any more questions?”
I took a deep breath before asking the question that had been bothering me the most. “Is my baby okay?”
