Chapter 8

“Alisa”?

Is something wrong?

Come in.

I just placed some cookies in the oven.

What is it you wanted to talk about? You sounded so worried on the phone.

I went to the doctor today and found out that I’m pregnant.

“Congratulations”!

She jumped out of her seat rushing over to hug me.

"How far along are you"?

A month, but the timing doesn’t quite add up.

Ah. I can explain that.

Shifter children develop a lot faster than the average human child, and birth control doesn’t really work well with bonded mates.

I guess you could call it nature’s safety measure.

“Exactly how fast”?

By next month you’ll look about three months pregnant.

"Oh my god".

Samuel must be excited.

I haven’t told him yet.

Marie frowned, I thought he would’ve been the first to know. I smelt it on you from the time I hugged you.

You have to tell him, she said taking my hands in between hers.

Don’t worry, I’ll be here to help you every step of the way.

I know I can never replace your mother or your aunt but I don’t mind being there if you need me. I already think of you as an addition to our family.

Thank you, I said hugging her. That means a lot to me.

No, thank you.

Yesterday Samuel came over and we had a long talk.

He didn’t say why but I knew you were the influence behind it.

Now go home and let him know he’s going to be a dad.

As soon as I got home I told Samuel the news.

He was pretty excited when I told him but he didn’t seem too surprised.

Did you know?

Not exactly but your scent had started to change.

Are you sure, asked Samuel?

Positive. The only problem is, gasp!

Before she could finish the sentence he had lifted her off her feet.

All she could do was wrap her legs around his waist and hold on.

We stood like that for a good few minutes with him sniffing my neck before I said something.

Samuel, are you alright?

Yes, I just felt like holding you.

Feel free to do it anytime you want then, I said kissing him on the neck.

He’s probably thinking about his parents.

I didn’t like seeing Samuel sad so I decided to try and lighten the mood.

Just keep it to a minimum when Sasha is around, she already teases me about how much you, and I quote “stare at my ass like it’s the pie that won the blue ribbon at the fair”.

He busted out laughing before he could hold it back.

Thank you for giving me a family of my own, he said soberly.

Ditto.

I started laughing this time.

What’s so funny?

I was just thinking, if the postman comes he’s going to get quite a view, I said blowing in his ear with a giggle.

If you keep that up he definitely will.

"Does this mean you’ll finally move in with me permanently"?

Yes.

Sarah is going to freak. Oh, I have another surprise.

What is it?

Put me down and I’ll show you.

He placed me gently on my feet and I lifted up my shirt and pulled down a side of my jeans to show him the mating mark.

When did it show up, he asked running his fingers across it?

I’m not sure but I think it might have been around the time I got pregnant. From what I read about it and what Marie told me, it usually shows up on bonded pairs but I think because of my mixed up genes it only came out when I got pregnant.

Apparently, warlocks fully bond with the mate they choose as soon as an offspring is conceived.

Which brings me to the question of, was my mother and my biological father a mated pair?
