Chapter THREE

“Explain quickly.” Lily snaps.

“Well it wasn’t my fault,” I grin. “Alice wanted out and I wanted out and Hatter and Rabbit wanted out. So we got out.” I slowly start backing even further away from. Got to be careful to make a clean escape. “Anyways, I got lost and everyone got lost too.”

“So...if you’re not a werewolf why do you know so much?”

Grinning I turn my gaze away from her. How much should I tell without giving too much away? A girls gotta have her secrets and telling all now would leave nothing for myself. So what to say what to say.

“Well I read a book.” I giggle finally reaching the edge of the bed. “Once or twice or three times I can’t remember.”

“Well-” I cut her off jumping of the bed and dashing for the door. I make it out into an abandoned hallway which connects to a flight of stairs and I basically fly down them.

Down the stairs and out the front door, at least that’s the plan. But before I can make it out I slam straight into what I can only describe as a wall.

“Whoa easy there,” A muscular arm snakes around my waist to keep me from falling back. “What’s wrong? Someone chasing ya’?”

Looking up at the stranger I grin. His golden colored eyes swirl with laughter as he stares back at me.

“I’m looking for someone,” I muse as he spins us around, his back facing the stairs. “Goes by Luka or maybe Alpha its hard to tell.” Grinning I go on my tippy toes to look over his shoulders. “Also crazy girl is trying to kill me.”

“Come back here!!!” Lily roars from the top of the stairs. The nice stranger man face drains of all color and I break out into a fit of giggles. Pushing away from him I run out of the huge house and out into the hot sunshine.

“Alpha the west border was being circled by a pack of rouges I sent a couple of warriors to deal with them and they found human carcasses.” Beta Jones was his name and he was busy talking to Luka. ” We’re busy trying to find out where they came from. We ran a search on that girl from yesterday and found nothing.”

“She seems young, maybe about sixteen.” Luka responds. “For some weird reason when I touched her I felt these sparks I don’t know how to describe it.”

“Eyy you know thats what Cyril said after he touched his mate for the first time.“Jones laughed lightly punching Lukas shoulder. “Maybe she’s the one.”

“I don’t think so,” Luka ran a hand through his hair.

“And why do you think that?”

“I don’t know...isn’t there supposed to be some sort of pull or like fireworks? It wasn’t like that with her.” Luka sighed heavily.

I watched from behind a pair of trees while Luka and Jones had a conversation loud enough for me to hear. They were both busy watching some of the younger werewolfs work out and practice fighting.

Now should I go up to Luka or take my chance to run.

Just as I’m contemplating going up to him and asking him to help me find my friends a sharp wind blows through the trees. Kinda reminds me of soething Rabbit always says.

“When a strong wind blows its time to go. Otherwise you’ll never find the way home.”

Slinking away from the edge of the trees I turn to the forest.

“Forest dark and deep--lull me in and keep me--Hold me till I sleep--When it comes the time I’ll wake up and make you mine.”I sing under my breath slowly making it deeper into the forest.

I hate the dark. Its almost too dark now and the sun hasn’t even set. To make matters worse I’m all alone.

All alone.

With no Alice to guide me home. I want Alice. I want her back.

“Alice Alice where are thou’?” I whisper. “Hiding? Or watching somewhere up above?”

I make it to a clearing in the woods and come across a bloody sight. A giant stag lays on its side bleeding out from his stomach.

“Oh poor deer!” I race to its side falling down on my knees beside it. “Please....no....don’t die.”

Running a hand through his soft short fur I stared into his darkly colored eyes. He blinks slowly.

“Pretty boy,” I whisper softly. “Go to sleep you’ll be okay when you wake up.”

The deer blinks once before it stops. I watch as the life leaves its eyes and I stop breathing.

Or maybe the world starts spinning. Or maybe its both. Either way I start to gasp.
