Chapter 14

I jolted awake in a bed. Taking in my surroundings I was in a dark room. The walls were a deep red and the floor was covered in black carpet. The bed I was laying on was covered in black as well. Where was I? How did I get here? I sat up, swinging my legs over the side of the bed taking a deep breath. Last thing I remember was Logan pushing me off the bridge. Am I dead? Well of course I am, I doubt he’ll give me another chance. Is this the place Logan mentioned?

I felt a shift in the room and instantly went on alert, “Ah finally awake I see,” a deep voice called out from the corner of the room. I looked towards the sound seeing nothing but darkness.

“Where are you?” I asked out loud. Maybe I was going crazy and just heard the voice in my head. Wouldn’t be the craziest thing to happen to me lately.

“Right here,” that same voice replied. Just then a figure emerged from the shadows. I gasped as a guy with midnight black hair stepped towards the bed, he was very good looking. His hair stopped right above his ears, he had high cheek bones and a flawless face. Did I die and go to heaven?

“Who are you?” I asked. He walked until he was standing directly in front of me.

Cocking his head to the side he silently studied me before answering, “I’m Erebus.” He beamed. The name sounded familiar to me, but for the life of me I couldn’t figure out why.

“Where am I?” I watched as he causally sat next to me on the bed, as if we were old friends. I moved over.

“Thanatos brought you here. Well Logan brought you here but under Thanatos orders,” he told me.

“Where am I exactly?”

“Mortem, the place you go before someone escorts you to either heaven or hell.” He was studying me, then frowned realizing he might have given away information he shouldn’t have.

“Are you here to escort me?” he laughed.

“That’s not my job.”

“Whose job is it?” I asked.

He smirked. “Not my place to tell.”

I raised an eyebrow at him. “Where is Thanatos?”

“Away where?”

Just then the bedroom door opened as a girl walked in. She was gorgeous, she had long fiery red hair flowing past her shoulders and was wearing a black cami with black leather pants. The black brought out her red hair even more. I’m sure that’s what she was going for.

“What are you doing in here? Thanatos ordered everyone away from her until he returned,” She approached Erebus glaring.

“I could ask you the same thing Artemis, you’re also in here against orders,” Erebus stated smugly.

“Artemis? As in the Greek goddess?” I shrieked.

“You know who she is and not me?” he looked offended, I blushed. Artemis held her head high with a cocky look on her face.

“Everyone knows me.” she told him smugly.

“What’s going on here?” I asked them both. They looked at each other, it looked like they were having a silent conversation. This annoyed me to no end, all I did was ask a simple question. I shot up from the bed. “Fine if you guys aren’t going to tell me then I’ll find Thanatos and ask him myself.” I started walking towards the door. I stopped short as Erebus suddenly appeared in front of me. I looked back to where he had been sitting on the bed, what the hell? Did he just appear out of nowhere? Who is this guy?

“I’m afraid you can’t leave yet.” He crossed his arms over his chest, blocking the exit.

“You can’t keep me here!” I glared.

“Actually, I can.”

“What are you?” I sighed in defeat. The way he pops up out of nowhere I knew I wouldn’t be able to get pass him.

“I thought you’d never ask,” He said, grinning happily, “Erebus at your service, also known as the god of darkness.” my eyes widened as he told me this. I’m in a room full of gods? What is going on?

“Cut the theatrics, we need to leave before Thanatos gets back,” Artemis told him walking towards the door.

“Wait! Is Thanatos really the god of death?” I asked them to be sure. He could’ve been trying to scare me, right?

He chuckled. “You really should’ve paid more attention in history class,” I was going to ask him what he meant by that, but he left the room. Slamming the door close before I could even open my mouth. Gods are so rude.

I sighed sitting back on the bed. I’m guessing this is Thanatos’s room, it fits his personality, dark. Why was this place full of gods? Erebus said he wasn’t an escort so what did they do here? This was all so confusing and giving me a headache.

I had nothing to do while I sat in the room and was actually hoping Erebus or Artemis would return. I lay back on the bed stretching my legs out as I stared at the ceiling. What have I gotten myself into? First the attack on the street now I’m locked in some placed with gods.

“Comfortable, are we?” A voice all too familiar asked next to me. This was déjà vu all over again. My head snapped to the side to see Thanatos laying on the bed. He was on his side, head propped up using his arm staring straight at me, with a smirk on his face. A face that looked nothing like Logan’s. But more like an angel.
