Chapter 9

When I woke up the next day it felt like everything was a dream. The bruises on my neck confirmed it was all real. As I studied them more, I realized they were in the shape of a hand print. I felt my heart clench. This Thanatos guy was actually here! And choked me! I felt tears starting to build as I stared at my reflection. His words came back to haunt me. I was going to die soon; very soon according to Thanatos.

Before my mind could fully process this situation, the doorbell rang. I panicked thinking it was Thanatos but quickly dismissed the thought. He’d just pop up in my room like he did before. I quickly wiped my eyes before running downstairs to open the door.

“Hel-” Suddenly words failed me as I saw who was at the door.

“Well aren’t you going to invite me in?” he asked smirking at me. Thanatos slowly started walking towards me and I swear the room dropped ten degrees. He walked into the house slamming the door behind him causing me to flinch, “That’s not very nice now is it pumpkin?” He growled walking closer.

“It’s not like you haven’t invited yourself in before.” I snapped before I could stop myself. I quickly turned to run heading for the steps. His hand gripped the back of my shirt yanking me back before I made it far.

“Where do you think you’re going?” He snarled right next to my ear. The heat from his breath causing goosebumps to appear on my arms.

“Just leave me alone!” I screamed desperately thrashing around in his hold.

“Now why would I want to do that?” he asked curiously, placing a hand on his chin as if in deep thought.

“I’m going to die soon anyways right? So why are you torturing me now?” I argued.

“What did I tell you about asking me questions?” He suddenly pushed me away from him, causing me to fall to the floor. I winched in pain from the hard impact.

“What are you going to do, kill me?” I growled. I don’t know where this sudden confidence came from, but I was tired of him pushing me around, literally. I’m dying soon anyways so what do I have to lose?

“Sadly I can’t, lucky for you.” he sighed, actually sounding sad about the fact that he couldn’t kill me. He was sick.

“Why not?” I frowned. He was Thanatos god of death, surely he makes the decision of when someone dies.

“It’s not time for you to die yet, and if I were to take you early the big man upstairs wouldn’t be happy about that.” he said, “Now stop asking me questions before I rip your throat out,” he continued just as I opened my mouth to ask something. Only thing I could think of was to ask him questions, so I just decided to keep my mouth shut.

“Finally, she doesn’t speak! Now let’s get down to business, shall we? I’m sure you’re wondering why I’m here,” he stated smugly, as if I didn’t ask him that question earlier. He started walking towards me and I flinched back away from him, scooting backwards across the floor. Faster than lighting he darted forward grabbing my arms yanking me off the ground. I let out a scream. Where was your neighbors when you needed them? “Shut up right now!” He growled in my face. I quickly clamped my mouth shut. My eyes narrowed as he started leaning in.

“What the heck are you doing?” I screeched. Thanatos ignored me crashing his lips onto mine. My eyes widened. I’d be lying if I said his lips didn’t feel amazing. Sure they were freezing cold, but they were soft and moist, and against my better judgement I started kissing him back. What? Not every day a god kisses you. Even if he’s a little on the rough side and wants to kill me. I really need to get my priorities straight. I reached forward gripping his hood, and that’s when he broke the kiss.

“Down tiger,” his voice was full of lust. I blushed moving away from him to clear my mind. What the heck? I kiss a guy who just yesterday, was choking me to death? Am I crazy? Or did I end up in Fifty Shades of Grey?

“What do you think you’re doing kissing me like that?” I asked him.

“Why? You didn’t seem to care what I was doing when my lips were attached to yours,” he smirked.

“I-I-I-“I stuttered not knowing what to say. He waved his hand dismissively at me straightening himself up.

“See you around tiger,” he completely vanished in thin air, that was weird. I jumped as the doorbell rang again. Cautious this time, I looked through the peep hole.

“I know you’re in there I can hear you breathing!” Sydney shouted from the other side. I exhaled in relief before pulling the door open.

“Hey,” I said.

She glared at me. “Were you planning to avoid me?”

“No, I was just seeing who was at the door.” I said.

“Why? Not like you get visitors besides me,” She slipped pass me walking inside. I’d agree if a certain someone didn’t just leave. This made me remember the bruises on my neck. I’m surprised Sydney didn’t say anything. I walked over to the hallway mirror to check out the damage once again. To my shock my neck was completely bare. Had I imagined it? I must’ve for it not to be there anymore.

“What are you doing? We have things to discuss,” Sydney called from the living room. I broke away from my reflection, rubbing my neck as I made my way to the living room. Sydney was sitting on one of the couches patiently waiting for me.

“What?” I asked her as she glared at me. What did I do to her?

“What? So, you’re not going to explain to me why you just ran from away the party yesterday?” she demanded, and I thought Thanatos was scary. He’s got nothing on my angry best friend right now. As she mentioned the party flashbacks went through my mind as I remembered why I left. I felt tears building up. How did I forget?

“I caught him with Crystal,” I told her wiping my eyes as a tear slipped.

“What? You telling me that jerk cheated on you? After standing you up!?” She shot up from the couch making her way to the door.

“Wait! Where are you going?” I called following her.

“To go show him what happens when you cheat on my best friend,” I sighed knowing there’s no way I could stop her. Once she sets her mind on something nothing stops her.

“Isabel just let me explain,” were the first words my cheating ex-boyfriend said. We were currently standing on his front porch, it was extremely awkward. Sydney had already tried to attack him twice so now I was holding her back. Which was not an easy task. It was like a gazelle trying to hold back a lion.

“You don’t talk to her a-hole!” Sydney lunged for him again. Once again, I grabbed her pulling her back.

“Calm down already!” I screamed at her getting annoyed. I already didn’t want to be here. Her acting like this wasn’t helping the situation.

“Look I don’t care why you did it, I don’t want to hear an explanation. Hope you have a happy life.” I said, pulling Sydney away and down the steps.

“See? That’s why I did it! You’re like a robot and don’t give a crab about anything,” He yelled at me.

I turned towards him frowning slightly. This a-hole stood me up and cheated on me all in one night causing me to run into Thanatos. Then he stands there and blame me?

Before I realized what I was doing, I walked up to him pulling my arm back before slamming my fist into his face. I heard a crack as he let out a girly scream clutching his bleeding nose. Satisfied I turned back to Sydney who was staring at me with pride in her eyes, before making my way towards the car. I got in slamming the car door as Sydney started it up.

“Dang, where did that come from?” she asked me, I shrugged. For some reason I just snapped, something inside of me telling me he deserved that and much worse.
