Chapter 9

A Black-Eyed Being. One of His recruits. They take a human form and emanate a sense of pure evil. Minerva didn’t have a chance to stop him before Aamon pushed the recruit to the wall and immediately had his sword at its throat. The pressure of the sword drew the littlest of pitch black blood.

“What the hell are you doing here?”

The Black-Eyed Being only chuckled a bit in response. “Lovely to see you, too, Aamon.”

“Answer him,” Minerva demanded. The recruit’s eyes traveled from Aamon to Minerva and it shook its head.

Aamon put more pressure on its neck and drew even more blood. “Explain or you lose your life.”

The Black-Eyed Being chuckled again and grunted in pain at the pressure from the sword drawing small trickles of blood. He indeed responded. Barely. His words came out slow from the pressure of the sword at his throat. “I have…. a message,….. from… Him.”

“And the message is?”

“I am….. always….. around, but never…….. seen. I am often……. Avoide-e-ed, but you…. can’t… outrun….. me. For.....I….. will come ….when your…… ol-l-ld an-n-nd grey,…… or maybe even….. the very next day. I will….. come with……. a cold embrace,… and….. give …yo-o-ou….. rest with…… a chilled…. kiss…… on….. your f-f-face. I-I com-m-me in many forms…… of….. emotional state,…….. whether it’s irony,…… love, laughter, or……… hate. I-I a-am everyo-on-one’s final fate. What a-am I-I?”

Minerva repeated the riddle in her head and answered, “You are death.”

Aamon glanced at Minerva and back to The Black-Eyed Being, who had its eyes locked with the witch and pointed at her. “Death…. to her.”

“That’s all?” Aamon ordered, taking his distraught and widened eyes from Minerva’s face. The Black-Eyed Being nodded. And Aamon cut its head clean off.
