THREE

“I’m in love with you, and I’m not in the business of denying myself the simple pleasure of saying true things. I’m in love with you, and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we’re all doomed and that there will come a day when all our labor has been returned to dust, and I know the sun will swallow the only earth we’ll ever have, and I am in love with you.”

John Green

The queen is staring.

The females are staring.

The males are staring.

And he is staring.

I can’t hear my own thoughts, so I run once more.

Fuck, I think I put Caster Semenya to shame.

Out the door, through the foyer, and to the great outdoors. My eyes quickly located the license plate for my limo as I ran inside and slammed the door shut, locking it.

“Go!” I scream frantically at the startled driver as he starts to move.

It was all short-lived as the door was ripped off of its hinges, a very angry prince throwing himself inside.

I let out a shrill squeal of surprise as the limo quickly stopped, launching myself at the opposite door as I opened it to escape.

“You’re going to have to pay for damages,” The driver complained, his eyes wide with shock.

I don’t know who is more shocked, buddy.

“A little bit busy right now,” I shoot back, sending half of my body through the car door.

Cassius catches my leg before my body makes it out, dragging my body back inside and into his arms. I was in his arms once again as he sprinted back inside and down the quite-so-familiar hallway.

“Let. Me. Go!” I cry as I slap at him, trying to weaken his grip

“Did mate-ed teach you nothing silly girl?” He grumbles as he leads me through a different door into a clean room next door.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t really expect my mate to be a rake! So yes, mate-ed didn’t teach me how to prepare for this one,” I drawl out sarcastically. He growls, and anger floods his eyes.

“Do not make me regret my choice, mate,” He bites back, stabbing my emotions straight in the heart.

“You took me back to the same room you and that girl just fucked in, and you expect me not to be angry? I’m overwhelmed, and I’m fairly sure my feelings are justified” I bite back angrily. A guilty look flashes over his face.

“I didn’t know I was going to choose someone, I’m... Sorry?” He questions himself, the words probably sounding foreign to him as they left his mouth.

Has he never apologised before?

“Clarissa didn’t know either, but she seemed pretty happy to have her ‘buddy’ back,” I mutter, losing some of my confidence. My body isn’t nearly as nice as hers.

“Wasn’t her name Larissa? Wait... you might be right. Oh god, this isn’t making this any better,” Cassius groans, and looks down towards the floor.

“Wow. Okay,” I reel back. He stares back at me as his expression changes like a television screen. Guilt, unease, annoyance, unhappiness, anger, and lust?

Again, what the fuck.

He moves towards me slowly, a predatory look on his face. But before he can get closer, I interrupt his beast’s awakening.

“No, Your Majesty. Don’t you even try it, I am in no way going near you right now,” I warn him, as his silver eyes begin to mix with black.

“No,” He responds with a feral growl, continuing his hunt.

I only know one way to stop him, or at least I think I do.

“Maybe we should do an eye for an eye,” I propose, and a small smile gracing my lips. “ Since you’ve had sex with the entirity of the kingdom, I will too. After all, you aren’t a virgin and I think we should have equal footing,” I start my rant but his eyes go pitch black in the middle of the second sentence.

He had no control.

Yet, somehow, Cassius manages to pull back his wolf so he can throw himself against the wall, getting stuck in the cinder blocks. I’m sure he did it for me.

“Run,” His growls, as his last bit of humanity leaves him.

And, for once I listen, running before his beast breaks free.
