The Remnants of Sorcerers' Past

Miss Felise’s class was a deep purple. The windows were stained glass and the chairs were velvet with red rugs displayed all around the room. Students were already sitting on the rugs, playing with glass balls of their own. Miss Felise was sitting on the floor with her legs crossed on a rug. She had a green giant glass ball in front of her. The woman looked young, not even thirty and she had wild blonde and purple hair and blue eyes. She smiled when Ashley walked in with Taylor.

“You must be the new student! Ashley Gaine,” the woman said. Ashley nodded. “I am glad that you are friends with Taylor. She is one of my most prized jewels. She understands fortune telling and appreciates my work. You should do fine in this class, especially if you’re her friend.” Taylor smiled.

“Thank you Miss Felise. Can Ashley and I share a rug?” Taylor asked.

“Of course you can! Go sit down. Class is about to start,” she told them. Right after she finished her sentence, the bell rang and the door slammed shut. Ashley looked at Taylor wide eyed.

“Oh. Yeah, sometimes she can tell the future,” she laughed. They sat down on a rug and stared at Miss Felise. She stood up and smiled.

“Hello, class. As you may have heard, we have a new student today. Her name is Ashley Gaine. Be nice to her. She is a sweet child. Okay, well, you all have your palm reading reports due in a week. Please choose a partner to do the palm readings on and explain your findings using your previous knowledge on palm readings. Taylor, I trust that you will teach Ashley everything that she would need to know?” Miss Felise asked. Taylor nodded. “Excelent. Everyone, get started.” Ashley turned towards Taylor.

“Palm reading?”

“Yep,” Taylor nodded, “we have to read a friend’s palm and record our findings for the project. Then we have to decipher our data and present our report to the class.”

“Really?” Ashley asked.

“Yeah. It’s not as hard as you think. Palm reading is all about energy.”

“Energy?” Taylor nodded again.

“Yes, energy! Our bodies are big balls of it and well, if given the power, you can decipher it and see what it all means. Sometimes it’s just small stuff like a favorite color or animal but other times, it gets serious.” Ashley perked up at that.

“How so?” Taylor leaned in and lowered her voice.

“Sometimes you can find out another person’s destiny,” she whispered.

“What?! You are not serious,” Ashley said shaking her head.

“I am too! You have to be a very strong sorcerer-and I mean strong-but it’s totally possible.”

“So let me get this straight; you can find out a person’s destiny, a person’s fate, all from a palm reading?” Ashley shook her head again. “That’s insane.” Taylor laughed.

“You found out you were a sorcerer less than twenty-four hours ago and you find this hard to believe?” she asked her. Ashley shrugged.

“It’s different. And to be honest, I’m not even sure if I do believe all of this.” Taylor laughed again.

“Well you better start believing.”

After that class, Ashley had a newfound respect for fortunes.

“Wow, thanks, Taylor for telling me all of that stuff. I know you’d rather work with someone who actually knew what they were doing,” Ashley laughed. Taylor shook her head.

“That’s insane. I’m happy I got partnered up with you. You are my friend after all,” she said.
